Little help with a Lich.

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Some of my friends are going to be starting a home-brew evil campaign soon and I am going to make a Lich Monk.

My DM has said it's fine but I have to take a 21 point buy instead of everyone else 25 and I have to start two levels below everyone else.

So I am starting at level 1 and they at 3.

Could anyone give me some suggestions about how I should point buy this? The only rules he put on me for it is that I cannot dump stat con, it must remain at 10.

Also feat suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Treantmonk has an article about optimization for monks. It should still work regardless of the template. I don't have the link though.

Sorry, I don't lich on a first date.....who am I kidding? I shirley do!

I personally would go this route
Str-15(7), Dex-14(5), Con-10(2)cause you have to, Int-8(-2), Wis-17(13), Cha-7(-4) for (5+7+2-2+13-4)=21 points.
With racial adjustments its S-15, D-14, C-10, I-10, W-19, Ch-9
Not too shabby, plan on bumping up wisdom 1st than str.
You could also drop Wisdom from a 17 to a 16 and bump up Charisma to 9(11 modified) if you wanted. Fear Aura and Paralyzing Touch are Charisma based for saves so you may want to work that....however if you wanted to use those abilities and have a good charisma I would suggest going with either a sorcerer or a rogue so you don't have the need to have so many stats high.
Hope it helps.

Treantmonk's Guide to Monks. Per the previous poster.....it is an awesome guide.

I wouldn't dump Cha since you need it for HP as an undead. I'd go with a base cha of 12 before the racial adjustment.

I'd properly lower Wisdom a bit (to a 15). Yes it is nice to have the Ki pool, but the you don't need the AC as much as ordinary monks do, since you have your +5 natural armor (and not forgetting the DR 15 which is gonna carry you through low level adventures...).

My choice would be 15,15,10,8,15,12.

I has to be said however that I have little experience with monks.

Well first caveat, you don't qualify as an 11th level caster for a lich. Will you have a phylactery?

For stats as a base I'd go with the following 10points:
STR 14
INT 7
WIS 12
DEX 12
CON 10
CHA 14

Now you have 11 to play with here. You could spend it on WIS or DEX 12->14, then STR 14->16 & CHA 14->16, or you could forgo one of the 14s->16s and raise the INT up to 10. Lich will bump INT by 2 after all of this, but really INT is just how many skills you want.

Either way you then apply your racials then your lich stat adjustments.

You could go with Elf (if you went with base 10+int), Half-elf, or human. I would avoid gnome and dwarf, and halfling. Halforc I don't see giving you anything.

Bottom-line I recommend human pumping either STR or CHA.

STR 18
INT 9
WIS 14
DEX 14
CON --
CHA 18

You would get 4skills/level (or with STR 16 you could get 6skills/level) and start with 2 FEATs.

Personally instead of Monk I'd go with Halfling Rogue, forgo STR entirely and get Weapon Finesse dealing touch attack sneak attacks, but that's me.

Have fun with it,

James

Shadow Lodge

I suggest you go half-elf bard lich, and max out your ranks in Perform(Thriller)!

Not helpful I know, but still funny. Out of curiosity, why monk?

James, good catch with the race, I forgot you still get a race.....
on the 11th caster level thing, that's only if you want to have a Phalactery. I would say he just isn't getting one.....yet. He could in the future just take a bunch of levels himself to be able to do it. It wouldn't deny him access to Lichdom though.

@James: As far as the phylactery goes, my back story explains it. My character was a caster whose ritual of undeath went wrong and he lost all memory of who he was.

@Dragonborn I went monk because I see too many caster lich types and I wanted to see an undead monk. I loled at the bard lich though.

Also wanted to stay away from rogue as Im already playing one in another cmapaign.

Thanks for all the great suggestions keep them coming.
