In Varnhold Vanishing

Abigale now Paladin/cleric of Erastil 7/1. Baroness. Main healer and Tank
Sven Rogue 8th Glass cannon. Uses Falchion to deal large amounts of damage, but falls over a lot. Last level took an increase in con which might increase his ability to stay on his feet.

Kelso. Item creating Wizard 8th. The only subtle one in the party

Jarl: Archery focussed ranger 8th, favoured enemies humans and fey. Really beginning to see this character shine. Was a bit over shadowed by Sven and Abigale (except against the human bandits) But all the archery feats are now meshing for serious damage.

Elven Ranger of Gorum

Half elven druid of Green Peace

Human paladin of Iomedae

A negative channeling human cleric of Pharasma.

Yeah, they be the holy rollers...

We are in the middle of the first book, so it still remains to be seen how they will do without any arcane support.

Grand Lodge

By the time our party has gotten part way through the second book, there has been a bit of turnover in the party. One character retired from active duty, and several have died. We have taken the background information, that the people of Brevoy look with suspicion on being raised from the dead, fairly seriously. Thus, most of the characters who have died have stayed dead.

Here's the cast of characters so far (yes, we have seven players - our DM is earning his sainthood weekly):

Inquisitor of Erastil, who retired so that he could

Spoiler:
help rebuild the ruined temple of Erastil.

He was replaced by an Inquisitor of Calistria, who became our barony's High Priestess until her untimely demise.
She was replaced by a fighter/rogue roughly based on Nightwing (acrobatic, lurking in the night vigilante). He has recently been promoted to Marshall.

Gnome Oracle, who became our King (I guess, technically, Baron) until he was killed in an assassination. He is survived by his infant son who may, many years in the future, inherit the throne.
I believe the player is planning on bringing another Oracle, but it sounds like our voice of diplomacy and reason is being replaced by someone a lot angrier.

Ifrit Fighter/Magus, and aspiring duelist, who served as Royal Enforcer. He thought a little bit too highly of his swordsmanship and wouldn't back down from protecting on of the kingdom's youths

Spoiler:
who had been captured by lizard men. He also wasted some effort trying to cast disrupt undead on a will-o-wisp, because it was described as "ghost-like".

He was replaced by a Monk/Cleric, who is built to take over the role of High Priestess, but needs to prove herself, in character.

A Bard, who got eaten by zombies very early in the game. If I tell you he was sneaking up on the bad guys in the night, and zombies suddenly popped up and ate him before the rest of the party could reach him, you can probably know where that happened. He is commemorated in our city's tavern, Bellamin's Rest.
He was replaced by an Elven Bard/Magus, who currently serves as our Treasurer.

Gnome Summoner, who wears his eidolon as a suit of armor (inspiring a large number of robotech references). He was our Councilor, until the death of the King, at which point it was revealed that he was the only other character who could talk to others without insulting their mother. He's technically a regent, but effectively the Ruler, unless the game goes on for a great deal longer than we expect.

Half-Orc Ranger, who built a grudge against the Stag Lord into his backstory. He now serves as Warden, and his (human) father got pulled into our kingdom as Councilor when the old Councilor stepped up to Ruler.

A Tiefling Wizard, who is the voice of law in an otherwise very chaotic party. He currently serves as Magister.

So, we have had a pretty diverse bunch of adventurers, each contributing their own particular expertise to trying to build a kingdom.

Half elven druid of Green Peace

Hahaha. Wizards' fireballs are contributing to this BIG HOLE in the atmosphere of our planet, guys!!

Our Kingmaker group is rolling out with -

Zarilan, Chaotic Neutral aasimar cleric of Hanspur. Sent to replace the previous cleric of Hanspur in the party after receiving a vision upon wakening from a months-long fascination with a trio of nereids. He drowned the previous cleric in the Sellen as a proper sacrifice to the Water Rat (Hanspur is a rather capricious fellow). Raised by homesteaders yet barely tolerated as a family member due to his weak physical nature, he met a wandering priest of Hanspur on one of his youthful, days-long wanderings away from home. When he awakened from his nereid-induced stupor, surrounded by the dead fey, the bodies of at least a dozen hobgoblins and his mentor, he took up the holy symbol and trident of Hanspur and vowed to find answers. Highly mistrustful to the point of hostility of fey creatures now and extremely slow to trust or care about anyone living, he now has turned his attention to the dead...

Bannor, Lawful Neutral aasimar monk (martial artist). Rarely speaking and with a mission inscrutable to everyone, Bannor has taken it upon himself to safeguard Zarilan, and is quite possibly the one person Zarilan trusts. However, Bannor's mission is a mystery even to Zarilan..he only knows that he's somehow involved.

Fleshharrower, Chaotic Neutral catfolk barbarian. Fleshharrower is the last survivor of his tribe. He only wants to make sure they are remembered in song and legend, and as such is an extremely flashy, feral combatant. He signed on for this because it seemed like a great place to rip things to pieces with his falchion (or in the case of the bear in book one, his claws when he got grappled. That was still scary though).

Half-Elf druid, True Neutral, constrictor snake companion named "Shh". He's a first time player so he's really quiet.. but he's saved our party at least twice in combat through the use of the entangle spell! The woman who dual wields axes was easy prey from range when we were ambushed by bandits once she failed six saves in a row to free herself. I'm not sure he has a backstory, but I'm encouraging him to write one. It seems like he and the barbarian could have a history together somehow.

I seem not to have checked in here, we are about 1/3 done with Rivers Run Red.
I altered KM to fit into my world, which is the old Birthright campaign setting, and Brevoy--> Rovninodesk, which is recovering from one of its periodic civil wars, ending 6 years ago.

They pretty much ignored the forest in favor of exploring the hill country, and convinced the kobolds (goblins for me) to help them attack the Stag Lord's fort. They now claim "Tuskwater Keep" and 4 hexes.
All are human and currently level 5.
- Viktor Kurganyev, Cavalier. From a minor noble family, he was too young to fight in the last war, but two older brothers disappeared. One of them reappeared, as (Akiros), and they have been reconciled.
- Yulianna Lodovka, Rogue. She's much more of a court-trained girl, but very good with a bow. Her father is a close cousin of the Lodovka family head, and a strong war-leader in his own right. He's the source of the 50 BP, and she is the one holding the Tsar's patent to rule as Baroness.
- Jana, Ranger (guide). Our group's mapper and Counselor. She had apprenticed to a caravan-master who had crossed the Stolen Lands a few years ago. She's the sole survivor of last year's caravan, the rest were wiped out by a mysterious force that attacked from a fog (the trolls, but they don't know it yet).
- Petra, Oracle with a white wolf puppy as a companion, Magister. Raised by a lone priestess or oracle on the edge of the Stolen Lands. (I was really, really tempted to make that the Old Beldame, but I didn't do it.) Her patron is the goddess of winter.
- Yuri, Inquisitor and High Priest. Was a PC, retired to NPC last session. Patron is the god of war & destruction.
- Leif, Ranger (falconer)- replaced above.
- Vriska, Barbarian and Executioner.

The Greenbelt Barony has four Kingmakers, who have been named the Founding Fathers.

One grand festival is held on the month of Calistril in their honor each year, which is Founder's Day.

All four met under different circumstances in Brevoy, each receiving the charter to map out the Greenbelt and defeat bandits.

- Ciaran, a mysterious tiefling traveler from Sevenarches who wields a magical spear and seems to be in good relations with the fey of that area. He is a Chaotic Neutral Barbarian/Magus and joined the group to see the world and have a good fight.

- Oruda Tarkhan, a hobgoblin of Tian Xia who left his homeland after finding the faith of Abadar and realizing the ways of his fellow goblinoids were too brutal for him. He is a Lawful Neutral Ninja and joined due to wanting to civilize the savage land.

- Kiriv Ikitclaw, a ratfolk bounty hunter of Alkenstar and follower of Erastil with a cunning mind as well as a sharp sense of smell. He is slowly approaching his middle age years, fearing a crisis as he is still not married. He is a Chaotic Neutral Ranger/Fighter, and joined to collect the bounties off the bandits.

- Sage Ravell, a human of Absalom who serves as the brains of the group. He is a skilled diplomat born to a merchant family, and has managed to turn many potential enemies in the area either into allies or pawns with his skills. He is a True Neutral Wizard, and joined to confirm rumours of Brevic expeditions to the Stolen Land.

Out of these four, three also serve in leadership roles in the Barony itself. Ciaran is the Royal Enforcer, Oruda is the Spymaster, and Sage works as the Grand Diplomat. They are also rather aware of the unstable condition Brevoy is in, and just waiting for a safe chance to declare independence even if it won't be happening any time soon.

Our group has just had two sessions so far and this is run with two GMs because its a large group.

First is a CG Dwarven Paladin of Cayden Cailean. (This is allowed in our game, swapping the upholding the law portion of the code for fighting for freedom everywhere oppression and slavery is found.) He instantly fights anyone that makes fun of his height.

Then we have a NG Ulfen Viking Fighter focused on sword and shield two weapon fighting.

A NG half-elf Evoker Wizard from House Medvyed with a bonded staff and lots of scrolls.

A NG halfling Life Oracle of Erastil. He is the voice and face of the group and is trying to make everyone a big and happy family.

A CG Elven Alchemist that has the Hedonistic drawback. He is a party man that is also organic chemist that is willing to experiment on himself and the party with new compounds (as long as they are not potentially life threatening).

A NG half-orc Cleric of Milani. He is quiet, except where he finds slavery, then Milani uses his orcish nature to bring about freedom to the slaves.

A CN Grippili Swashbuckler Rogue that the group rescued from some trappers/slavers on the way to Oleg's.

A NE Catfolk Ranger from House Surtova that hunts humans. The party doesn't know his alignment, except that he constantly takes about and tries to motivate by the used of 'gaining additional powers'

The group (all but the Catfolk, Grippili, and Half-orc) was brought together when the Elven Alchemist started a bar brawl in Restov and pulled them in because they looked rough. The group ended up being arrested, sentenced to hard labor, but this mysterious catfolk intervened and offered them a chance to take up this charter or serve their hard labor. They all signed the charter except the catfolk, who comes along anyway, as a proxy for a yet unknown interested party in seeing this charter fulfilled.

Current Party (including NPC allies):
Griffith Utarefson d'Garess (male dwarf inquisitor of Cayden Cailean/fighter) - PC
Karishma Bala Katell (female rakshasa-spawn tiefling aegis/soulknife) - PC
Guano Dung* (male svirfneblin monk/druid) - PC
Jhod Kavken (male, changed to a ranger/cleric) - NPC
Kesten d'Medvyed (male, changed from Garess for story reasons, also now a cavalier/ranger) - NPC
Bokken (male old human alchemist/artisan [Rite Publishing]) - NPC
Ragnar Tofa (male jotun jotun paragon [Rite Publishing]/shaman [Kobold Press]) - NPC
Orn (male pure taurian ranger/inquisitor) - NPC
Pikkin (female ?????? faerie dragon ????/????) - NPC

*He picked the name, and it's typical for the player to use...funky names.

Inactive due to life issues:
Hajah (male koldemar [Super Genius Games] alchemist/mad scientist [aka Spark, from Rossi Publishing Games]) - PC
Lissi (female sylph witch/gunslinger) - PC

Dead PCs and Allies:
Kronug of Numeria (male human bestial druid [Kobold Quarterly]/mighty godling [Super Genius Games]) - PC. Died when the exploration team was attacked by a will-o'-wisp at night.
Emerys Bogwhistle (male young human ranger/shadow assassin [Super Genius Games]) - NPC. Died with Kronug. Juvenile, former bandit.
Malcolm (male human fighter/rogue) - NPC. Died with Kronug. One of Kesten's soldiers.
Jillian Medwin (female human monk/rogue) - PC. Her throat was ripped out by a treacherous faerie dragon.
Nugget (female mite rogue/fighter) - NPC. Last mite from the tree. Died after being surrounded by advanced huecuevas in the replacement temple for Jhod's quest.

Is your group just really fond of multiclassing or are you playing Gestalt?

Orthos wrote:

Gestalt, turned up past 11. ;)

Nice. I did a Gestalt Savage Tide a few years back, it was pretty fun. Will be making a second attempt at it after we finish KM.

My group is about halfway through Rivers Run Red.

-NG Cleric of Sarenrae, "Alanthia", Duchess of Sarendine

-LG Crane Style Monk, "Chen", master chef and dire boar solo-er

-N Ranger, "Miles Manners", master beekeeper

-CG Inquisitor of Desna, "Kazaar"; The scariest half-orc. Ever.

-CN Aquatic Sorcerer, (His name changes every session), habitual liar.

I'm late to the party it seems. I inherited this game when the previous DM exploded IRL and left us after just two sessions, but we're now 12 sessions in and the players are having almost as much fun as I am :)

Its a big party though, so I've scaled the difficulty at times:

Gavriil Matav - LG Human Fighter (5) - noble-born, military-bred, devout Abadar-worshipper, youngest son of a minor branch of a major House. Recently hired a non-combatant hireling priestess as a spiritual guide - after all the bandit-killing and whatnot, he was worried he was losing his grip on being a good man.

Lexi Novokovsky - LG Human Paladin of Sarenrae (5) - noble-born, tiny little firecracker of a holy warrior. Presently involved in a love affair with the party's tall, statuesque Druidess.

Erin Anson - LG Human Cleric/Paladin of Iomedae (1/4) - handsome holy man who wants to be noble. Presently courting a prominent nobleman's daughter in Restov, but the fighter's hot hireling (a young priestess of Abadar) is tempting his dedication.

Zehavah Lighteye - NG Druid of Erastil (5) - tall, voluptuous self-described "savage". Has adopted (and left under the care of a friend/NPC in Restov) a group of orphaned children from a side quest; is presently engaged in a love affair with the lady-paladin, Lexi.

Rachel Azarova - NG (N?) Dual-Heritage Sorceress (5) - quiet, contrary, and argumentative sorceress. The character has a few cool hooks in her background, but the player doesn't seem to respond to prompts in-game.

Ryvin Wanderwood - CG Halfling Barbarian (5) - wild, muscular, oiled little warrior who rides into battle on a wolf (originally, a pony, then a riding dog). He suffered from a brief case of lycanthropy after an encounter with a werewolf, but thanks to a mooncaller's ritual, has since been cured.

Honorable Mention: Ava Blue-Elk Kozik - NG Human Ranger - copper-haired hunter left her family's remote ranch to get help from the capital city after bandit's threw her family into the cold. They couldn't/wouldn't help her so she joined the Charter in hopes of making money enough to hire help... I got to play her 2 sessions, then - since I was DMing suddenly - she broke her leg and has spent the last four months convalescing at Oleg's Fort while her friends level & explore.

-----------------
So far, we had 3 deaths, but as it was my first session as a DM, I twisted it into a weird fae-induced nightmare and the party remained whole with its original members. Of course, the repercussions of that whole thing are still playing out all this time later. :D

Now that they have started building their kingdom, I can answer this thread too.

Ruler PC Honorable Lady Johanna Snieg Half-elf Oracle of Nature 4 / Hierophant 2, Baronet of Arendelle. Formerly Johanna Bear, a bastard of the Medvyed family, she became a true noble, after her acknowledgement by Lord Gurev Medvyed, but had changed her name to Snieg and renounced to any claim of the Medvyed legacy as part of the agreement. Married to a Medvyed for the same political reson, although she had the possibility to choose which one between some candidates. She choose the NPC who helped the party in the Stolen Lands.

Ruler NPC Honorable Sir Aleksander Medvyed (her husband) Human Paladin of Erastil 2, Baronet of Arendelle. He was a minor brother of one of the Medvyed branches, who has been forced to go away from home by his Older brother Ivan. Became member of the Church of Erastil, and was sent to the Stolen Land to help the local community of trappers and hunter against banditry. He helped the party and was the witness of their Mythic Ascension. Had a crushed for Johanna since their first meeting. To marry Johanna had to renounce to any claim of the Medvyed legacy too.

Councilor NPC Leonid Venerable Human Oracle of the Nature 4. Johanna's former teacher from her background. Called by her to help in governing the new kingdom.

General NPC Sir Kesten Garess Human Fighter 3

Grand Diplomat NPC Lady Akilina Lebeda Human Summoner 1. She is the Lebeda's representative and probably Graydrone's future bride. She loved him since childhood (when Graydrone was fostered at Silverhall), she became a Summoner to emulate him too.

High Priest NPC Reverend Jhod Kaken Old Human Cleric of Erastil 4

Magister PC Sir Graydrone Bahram Half-Elf Summoner 4/Guardian 2. Orphan Child of a rich merchant family of Silverhall, who was killed by some assassins, he was rescued and fostered by the Lebeda. Had an affair with Elanna Lebeda, but when the family discovered, she was sent to New Stetven while Graydrone was sent to the south beginning his life as an adventurer.

Marshal PC Lady Fenir Al'Meara, of the Al'Meara tribe Catfolk Ranger 4/Champion 2. Her tribe was exiled by New Stetven in the last year of the Rorgavian, she is secretly responsible for the exile, and is going to became the chief of her tribe too. All her tribe has moved south, and now is in Arendelle, the only place where they can have full citizenship.

Royal Enforcer NPC Mathrim Al'Meara, of the Al'Meara tribe Catfolk Barbarian 1. Fenir's former boyfriend.

Spymaster NPC Kairen Al'Meara, of the Al'Meara tribe Catfolk Rogue (Charlatan) 3. Fenir's older sister.

Treasurer PC Sir Yakov Volkov Tiefling Alchemist 4 / Trickster 2. The Volkov were former Gentry of the House Medvyed, but loose their fortune in the last years. This forced him to the adventure life. His grandmother was a minor noble from Cheliax, hence the Tiefling as race. He is promised to Kesten's sister.

Warden NPC Akiros Ismort Human ex-Paladin 1/Barbarian 3

Dark Archive

Starting "Sound of a Thousand Screams".

Duke Sigismund Zhukov (Fighter 15) - Ruler of the Kingdom of Zhukovia, with Stagfall as the capital city (founded on the Staglord fort), Vordafall (former Varnhold) and Tigerfall (former Fort Drelev) as secondary cities. A Human, Legal-Neutral sword-and-board fighter, wielder of the powerfull artfifact sword "Briar". Tough, stuborn, deadly and a somewhat distracted fellow (wisdom was his dump stat). Has married the young daughter of a powerfull Brevoy noble house and commited his armies on the civil war against Restov. Made a pact with the Soothscale Tribe and the Tiger Lords, whom now are his most powerfull allies and lend armies in times of neccesity.

Lord Patrician Brandon Zhukov (Rogue 15) - Former Royal Assasin, now acts as the the Patrician of Pitax, advising (controlling, in the shadows) the young new ruler of that nation after the "disappearance" of King Irovetti. A Human, Legal-Evil two-weapon combatant (adamantite shortswords).
Charismatic, resourceful and lethal, prone to get the company of good wine and fine woman. Tries to win allies before making enemies...but never forgets a betrayal, going to costly and inhuman lenghts to settle a score.

Hierophant Argat Zhukov (Druid 15) - The current spiritual leader of Zhukovia, focused on the Green Faith and desdains all other gods. A Half-Elf, True Neutral Earth Domain druid, focused on casting spells and using wild shape to explore.
Almost every creature on Zhukovia Wilds has heard of him: Able to walk between trees, summon storm and earthquakes to his enemies, and has a very serious attitute towards nature balance. Is/was Nyrissa 's lover for a time, but the party has no idea of that. Tends to use Baleful Polymorph to change his most powerful enemies into rabbits while they are weak, and has a herd of two male (Imeckus Stroon - Human Wizard 12, Gaetane - Wererat Ranger 12) and one female rabbit (Ngara - Spirit Naga Sorcerer 3). Plans to mate them to breed a new race of super-magical rabbits.

Magister Asaka Fushibayashi (Summoner 15) - Leader of Zhukovia's Magical Academy. A powerful Chaotic Neutral Human lady, with a winged serpent called Cyris as her eidolon. Has dealt a series of comercial trades between Zhukovia and several neighbour kingdoms. A care-free spirit and a powerfull ally of the Zhukov house.

We had some political intrigue lately, hardly 1/3 into 2nd book.

Appointed Baron of Stonelands, Clan-Father of Advantgars, Colung Advantgar (NPC) - a middle-aged dwarf of some renown, originally one of the largest benefactors of the expedition to establish a Brevic colony in Stolen Lands, Colung wished for nothing more than use the new settlement as a base of operation for his Clan, to extend the family influence and to scout out promising prospecting spots. All that changed when the group of adventurers, tasked with founding a the country could not decide on the ruling seat, and offered it to Colung. Colung saw this as excellent opportunity to attract even more of his clansmen to the Green Belt, and, with time, build a strong dwarven hub to rival the larger dwarven mountain clans of Brevoy.

Olaf Advantgar - brother to Colung, the high priest who spends more time in drunk bar brawls than in the church. Currently is in a deep crisis of faith after a Razmirian priest beat him in a preach-battle (like a rap battle, but with scripture). Prefered weapon - fist. Preferred occupation - drinking and being knocked out. Allegedly his way of life was greatly influenced by the teachings of his pious father.

Claude Remy Laurent - spymaster and marshal of The Stonelands. A charming, mysterious rouge with a dark past and meny secrets he probably will never share. Hails from River kingdoms. Rumored to have contacts with some of the most notorious spy and thief rings in the region. Was killed by a wolf more than a year ago and buried, but strangely reappeared alive and well a few month ago and displaced Arim Harrowdreamer from all his leading positions, who then left in self exile, along with most of his Flenchling people, to fulfill THE PROPHESY!

Dragomyr Saeth, de facto leader of Iobarian Bear Clans - once a barbarian, he was saved by dwarves and trained to be a warpriest, and now the general of Stonelands. A devote follower of Torag, and his martial no nonsense approach to life. Militaristic, and direct, he went through great pain to relocate what was left of his old clan into Stonelands.

Matvei Surtov-Skorogorov - despite some noble lineage, he's a real brigand and thug in heart, but not without a charm, coming from the infamous Skorogorov branch of Surtova family, known for piracy and banditry far up north. Nobody knows how Matvei got his hands on a spellbook, and why did he decide to be a wizard, or why he takes all the shoes, and shy he smiles like a psychopath... but he is a cunning and efficient Viceroy and Magister, with dreams of a little magocratic island city-state of his own.

Nolan Colt - Well versed, mysterious half-elf merchant from Restov, Brevoy (but born and raised in Pitax). Treasurer and diplomat. Currently fights a propaganda war with Matvei, for political influence. in In his spare time he leads his humble lifestyle and indulges in magical and alchemical craft – sells items for 60-70% of market price. Brews ale (prefers dwarfen ale, wyrm’s breath bitter being his customers favorite).

Varara - young passionate barbarian girl, originally from Brevoy-Numerian border. After traveling for some time she found herself as a helper of one of House Medvyed lords, who offered her services to the adventurers as a sign of friendship after having a drunk bar brawl with Olaf. Direct and aggressive, when it's needed, she's often found in company of the general or drinking with the priest. Her occupation is being the royal enforcer, people love and fear her at the same time.

Ivan - (Once PC, now NPC) half-elf, son of a bervic mother and a elf-knight, who allegedly died fighting demon insurgency in Mendev. A horseman without a horse... but with a magical rhino hw acquired from one catastrophic primordial magic event. A simple man at heart, caring for a kingdom wasn't his thing, so he became the warden, spending most of his time on the Kingdoms fringes.

Jod Kavken - (NPC) Councilor, devout follower of Erastil and a fine hunter. Recently becamequte popular after wining the priest battle against the Rasmirian missionary, after the High Priest failed miserably.

Taking a brief 3 month kingdom building before diving into Varnhold. Party is as follows:

Frank Underwood - Human Rogue 8
Shia Ledouche - Human Rogue 8 (Queen and descended from a long line of whores)
Pezz - Human Wizard 8 (Has Kobolds worshipping him as a divine agent of their dragon god)
Tripod - Gnome Bard 8 (Uh...we won't go into that)

Needless to say, we have a few lesser PCs who the players invite over pretty regularly now, to serves as meatshields. As the party is noticably without. Its funny that we have two rogues and a cult-leader...3 of the 4 are cops. Are bard is an engineer who wishes he was a rock star.

Yeah. It gets pretty horrible. They went full murderhobo in the first session and killed Oleg. After they realized how much I was about to wipe the party and restart they straightened up.

Updating mine. We're at the end of Book 3, with some heavy mashups between 3 & 4. All are level 10, the realm is size 80.

-Yulianna Lodovka, Rogue. Now elevated from Baroness to Countess, she rules from Tuskwater Keep (Stag Lord's old place). Her mother was an explorer, and mysteriously disappeared in the Stolen Lands when she was small. She is married to Mikhail Papanovich, oldest son of a merchant house, with 2 small children.
- Viktor Kurganyev, Cavalier, Warden. His older brother, Anatoli, (replaced Akiros), is the General.
- Jana, Ranger (guide). Our group's mapper and Councilor, she's married to Garan Petrov, the Treasurer, and they have an infant son.
- Petra, Oracle with a white wolf as a companion, Magister.
- Vriska, Barbarian. She had been the Royal Enforcer, but once Varn's land opened up, she asked to be named Baroness there, as a vassal to Yulianna.

My party just finished Stolen Lands and briefly delved into building their unnamed kingdom right before one of my players had to leave the country for a month long school trip. We are trying to get together to do a Skyped mini session before she gets back and finish building our city but that hasn't happened yet. (On a side note, somehow she missed the d20 I slipped into her pocket before she left so she could actually do this and didn't find it until she was going through customs to get into her next country. DM has super stealth score...)

Thran - CG - Elf - Level 1 Cleric of Ketephys/ Level 3 Druid - Currently a bow fighter moving towards eagle shaman. Native of Kyonin. He has hawk animal companion as well as a combat trained thylacine pet. Thran eeks animal charisma and has nailed some really lucky rolls thus far with them. Doesn't really like being in cities much.

Zee - CN - Half Orc - Level 4 Magus - The closest thing the party has to a mage. She also has a baby smilodon (the party thinks its just a tiger) she found orphaned a couple of sessions in that she set up as her familiar. Devout follower of Pharasma and self-proclaimed cook.

Tenadel - NG - Half Elf - Level 4 Ranger - Our kingdom's ruler. He is an ex-bandit of the River Lands turned Pathfinder. Currently switch hitting between bowman and dual wielding. Tenadel has a pseudodragon animal companion that was at one time his messanger carry to and from Oleg's and his Venture Captain (it's amazing what characters can get when their players are married to the DM). He's a devout follower of Erastil and as such was hesitant to rule a kingdom.

Stolen Lands Spoiler:
Tenadel used to run with a gang under Dovan before he acquired Auchs. He tried to bluff his way into the Stag Lord's Keep and failed beautifully. The rest of his party had no idea of his banditry backstory.

Couple of close deaths, but somehow everyone including the thylacine has survived. The animals have saved their butts more times than I can count and more than fill the void of a fourth player. I've also given up keeping track of experience and went with just telling the party when they will be leveling up as I added an ongoing AD&D adventure called Secrets of the Towers that screwed up their experience points so bad I decided it needed to be one less thing I needed to keep up with. Not sure if given the choice I would chose this as my first DMing venture but I've been approaching it with as long as my group is having fun it really doesn't care. Playing with your husband, sister, and your almost brother-in-law is actually a lot of fun.

Group started small but has grown massively. Not all of them show up for each session but we still have quite a few players playing at once. In no particular order:

Players:
Strix Gunslinger (rifle specialist) 3
Succubi (custom race) Cleric of Calistra 2
Human Unchained Monk 3
Tiefling Grenadier Alchemist 2
Shabti Bone Oracle 3
Selkie (custom race) Druid 2 with Leopard Companion
Human Ranger (archery specialist) 3
Tenno (custom race) Investigator 2
Human Conjuration Wizard 3
Human Ranger (archery specialist) 2

*Edit: the level two ranger was the only player who had a character die, he chose to make a new character at a level below. The cleric, druid and alchemist came in late and haven't caught up yet. The investigator made a really powerful race so he's demoted one level behind

We finished Stolen lands just under two weeks ago, and will be starting (I think) the next book on Monday. We've had one character die, but I'm including him in the line-up because his new character hasn't been announced yet.

Alphonse, human Bard 4
Merrik, human Fighter 3 (recently deceased)
Ergran Urzen Battletankard, dwarf Inquisitor of Torag 4 (my character)
Uros, dwarf Ranger 2/Fighter 2
"Sabre", human Vigilante 3
Nassius, human Wizard 4

Not a dedicated healer among us, though between the Bard and the Inquisitor we do okay (albeit not enough to save poor Merrik.)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The party has just finished Varnhold Vanishing and have had...surprisingly few deaths. Warning, spoilers and also I tend to throw in a lot of original stuff into my games, depending on character backgrounds.

Duke Isaac van Cleef, a dhamphir and Oracle of Bones. He led a gang of crooks in Issia, Northern Brevoy when his human mother died and he journeyed down South to take the charter. He was chosen as the leader as almost a compromise candidate of the party, and has since brought his old gang in to help run the joint and do the less than savory work. He's really just trying to do the best he can. While he has many old criminals following him, his most loyal is the wizard Lyric, who is the nation's Spymaster.

Treasurer Odo Cobswoggle, a dangerously unbalanced halfling alchemist who was good friends with the Duke during their criminal years. He makes everyone generally uneasy before having a crucial piece of insight into whatever they're deliberating. Was killed by the Dancing Lady, but resurrected by the Duke after phenomenal amount of work. Found a Deck of Many Things and, by dumb luck, was leveled up and got a loyal manservant, Deckland.

High Magister Suelaika, an elven witch with a focus on sleeping spells. Suelaika comes across as bitter, utilitarian, and ruthless, but she is on a secret path on redemption. She was once far more powerful and evil, casting an entire village into a never-ending slumber. Her encounter with a half-elf child reminded her of herself, when she was young, bullied, and alone, and she changed her witch patrons and her way-losing all her power in the process. The half-elf girl she helped raised, Ameya, is stil around, acting as Grand Diplomat, while Suelaika secretly works to undo all the terrible wrongs in her past, even while she is reviled and treated with mistrust.

Chancellor Gabriel Lapage, a scholarly samsaran bard who has gradually been working democratic processes into the kingdom. Academic, moral, and far-sighted, he generally tries to keep the party doing the right thing, which means a lot of stuff happens behind his back. He adopted the last living lizardfolk, Brazziers, after an encounter with a powerful will o' wisp and their former general eradicated the rest of the species in the area. He has since been told he named his lizardchild after a porn site.

Royal Enforcer Jaia 'Redeyes', a kitsune rogue from distant Minkai. Redeyes arrived in Brevoy after a burglary in a huge museum went terribly wrong, and she was pursued through the halls by a renowned and relentless samurai, Takeda. Throwing random artifacts at him, she accidentally teleported herself to Brevoy, where she threw herself into the first thing she could, the charter. Redeyes is renowned for near-death experiences and has accumulated nearly half a dozen scars from each close-call she has ever had. Shortly after settling into the kingdom, Jaia was confronted from her past when Takeda arrived in the kingdom, leading a small army. The group discovered when Jaia had teleported, she had taken the entire ancient museum with her too, making her the greatest thief in Minkai. The party helped the Minkainians find the hall and helped seal the unleashed evil within it, but during the process lost their general, Takeda, and the museum itself.

General Othman, a barbarian from the savage North. A fearsome and proud warrior, he was outraged when the samurai Takeda threw accusations at Redeyes and insulted the small kingdom. He challenged Takeda to a duel, which he lost. He was survived by wife, Longstrider, a werewolf barbarian, and his child, Othson, a natural lycanthrope. He had a squire at the time of his death, Chadwick, who had been the boy recruited to tend to their captured baby wargs and owlbear.

General Ange, the replacement general from the Iron Wraiths mercenary company. A refined human cavalier from Taldor, he has replaced ferocity with exacting strategy and firm discipline. He has formed up the Legion Vigilant, a group of elite officers to enforce discipline. He has taken Chadwick under his wing, who has now become a very effective archer as he approaches manhood.

Well, I gathered up a group of people, and after they all decided that iron Gods wasn't their "thing" we decided on Kingmaker.

For our initial scene, I had these five characters:
Nezumi Nimh, Ratfolk unRogue. her player is one of my noobs, and is obsessed with making flank buddies. "Can I flank with that tree?" was an actual question.
Relhana, the half-elven ranger who was raised by wolves. no, really. Refuses to sleep indoors. Even in the rain.
Menas Stormblade, Human Magus. His major goal in life is to not get his head stuck in a bear trap, like the player's last magus. I will be directing him towards the "trap-filled glade."
Viviana Albercroft, Changeling Mesmerist. Yes, she is exactly as pretentious as you think she is based on her name. Which is strange for someone whose role was self-described as "feintmonkey."
Konica Nightstalker, Catfolk Hunter. her role in the party seems to be "hey, someone's gotta be chaotic neutral."

Since I have two newbies and a person who's a little rusty on systems, I decide to give them a run through encounter! On the way to Oleg's, they are ambushed by goblins! More precisely, a bunch of goblins drop a tree on themselves and end up getting their butts kicked. But not before introducing Menas to a wide variety of projectile weapons, teaching Relhana's player about attacks of opportunity, and exposing everyone to why goblin dogs are not cuddly.

After that, some of the players changed their minds about things!

Menas decided his name was too lowbrow fantasy emo. His player agonized for a long time over making the character's name a meaningless symbol, but remembered that he's not playing an elf magus anymore. He is now Menas Sarterion

Viviana got grossed out at getting covered in goblin blood, goblin dog dander, and Menas' lustful gazing. Presumably she pout-stomped all the way back to Restov. The other characters will meet up with Poppy Honeymead at Oleg's. Every party needs a drunken gnomish cleric of Cayden.

Konica's player got frustrated at the similarity between hunter and Ranger, and the lack of blowing-things-up spells on the Hunter list. She cashed in her Wileykat-looking hunter for some shiny-skinned busty elf wench, named it Amara and made it an Ectoplasm Sorcerer. Actual player quote? "I summon tentacles."

Gonna be interesting.

We're just about to go say hi to El-Staglordio before concluding the Stolen Lands... I feel like I may be a little late to the scene so glad to see a couple of others playing recently.

I had three players originally and after reading the obits was a bit worried about them being underpowered so chucked some fairly heroic stats, a bit of extra cash and a second trait their way. I now have four players and they're munching everything... i think the Stag Lord may be a surprise for them.

Anyhoo.

Iacob Filstanley - Human Alchemist and minor noble.
Had an incident involving embarrassing a lordling at New Stetvin Uni and is seeking opportunities elsewhere away from retributution. Rather academic and has done as much damage to the party with fumbled bombs as I've managed. Also has a tendency to take critters to exactly 0 hp.

Tenbar Ironwolf - human fighter
Lawful good human noble type from a cadet branch of the Medvyed. Has a bloomin great big sword and plate doing ludicrous damage. Very honourable, not very bright. Once took a Kobold to -28 hps with a crit. I interpreted it as a 'slog for six', home run in American I guess.

The other original character has been retired as a bit lacking in flair and fun next to these two. New character is:
Trevor - human inquisitor of Calistria
A former fanatical cultist trying to infiltrate the Stag Lord's band to bring it down, Trev thought he'd been rumbled when word reached him Dorvan was touring the gangs looking for traitors. He did a runner and was told to go help tge party when handing himself in as a repentant bandit at the nearest Brevic fort.

Jag - Kobold Rogue.
Jag is a compulsive liar and thief but not actually evil. He's the party liaison to the Sootscale's who are now a trade ally. He also eats virtually everything the party kills. Particularly eyeballs. So far he's eaten Tuskgutter pulled pork, Tatzlwyrm eyes and giant frogspawn. Also moonradishes. Which in my world are a highly sought after human afredisiac with a phallic shape.

It's been a long ride, but the Lords of Iomrall are nearing up on an end to their adventures. Resuming next week after an October hiatus they will be marching on the domain of Cuorvhain the Conqueror, blue dragon lord of the Talon Lords and the Red Hand (I subbed in a scaled-up Red Hand of Doom in place of War of the River Kings), following which they will at last be face to face with the enemy who has opposed them for so long.

RULER:
Countess Elegy Medvyed-Alvaris Dragomir
Lawful Good Female Arctic Aranea Oracle [Spellscar, Legalistic]/Hierophant.

Spoiler:
Elegy has had a rather wild ride in her life since the early days of Iomrall's youth. Shortly after that prior post, Elegy fell in battle against a vicious creature of the Dark Song - an intrusive, corrupting alien force - and, consumed by self-doubt and depression, rejected attempts to revive her. However, her debt to Queen Mab remained, and the Queen of Air and Darkness is not so easily thwarted; Elegy's soul was snatched by the Winter Queen before she could move on to the afterlife, and a reason for her failure to keep up her end of their bargain demanded. Among her many explanations and excuses, the one Mab latched onto was that Elegy claimed the short lives of humans would not be enough to retrieve what Mab desired. Mab returned her to the world of the living in the body of an Aranea, a descendant of the spider-goddess Arachne, promising her at least a thousand years more of life, provided she doesn't get herself killed again.

Despite the initial shock and early worries and fears of the reaction of friends and family to her sudden loss of humanity, Elegy eventually adapted well to her new form. She also, with some rocky bumps along the way, settled more into her role as ruler of the colony, encouraging along with Errol a high focus on education and magic among their people as well as furthering the sciences. Elegy's become something of a mad doctor herself, crafting a golem army to bolster Iomrall's military forces in its youth and setting the kingdom well on its way towards a modernizing future. Likewise, she's become something of a diplomat savant, capable of ending massive wars and swaying political opinion dramatically with a few well-chosen words. She was able to negotiate the kingdom's independence with little more than a polite request, leading to her arranged marriage with the son of their former sponsor, young Lord Casimir Alvaris. The two have become capable cooperative rulers, despite the lack of any actual bond between the two (both due to Elegy's asexuality and their species being incompatible); however, she has formed a strong friendship with Casimir's bodyguard and mistress, a wizard named Lucia Jaroslava.

Most of Elegy's extended family now resides in Iomrall: her mother Petrina Dragomir (formerly known as Adelina Medvyed, before her divorce from Elegy's father), her brother Emerson Medvyed and his wife Penelope Siskin, and her other brother Evan's two children Adela and Valeria (both apprenticed out in Iomrall while Evan deals with the political chaos back home), and her uncle Rupert Dragomir (a wizard currently stationed in the area once known as Drelev). Her father Stelian Medvyed is imprisoned in Iomrall's capital for attempting to overthrow the kingdom and seize the crown from his daughter's head.

MAGISTER:
Lord Errol Genio
Chaotic Evil Male Glaistig Warmage/Archmage.

Spoiler:
Like Elegy, Errol fell in battle early on in their adventure; in his case, against the trolls under command of King Hargulka Fire-Eater during their attack on Tatzylford. He, on the other hand, answered the revival call and was reincarnated in the body of a Glaistig, a satyr-like fey race known as sentinels and protectors.

Errol's life has gone from insanely wild to strangely normal. His search for his lost memories has led him to make poor deals with Queen Mab, bargains with the Puck of Summer, and repeatedly threaten to leave the group when he felt his search was being stymied. However, something kept him around and, eventually, allowed him both a loophole by which to escape Mab's grasp and also tied him firmly to Iomrall as his home and future - Pelagius Francesca, a young Ael-Varan (avian elfkin) woman and apprentice of the Old Beldame. Cesca and Errol's friendship quickly blossomed into love, and Cesca even brought up the idea of marriage as a method of slipping some of the restrictions inherent in Errol's deal with Mab. Cesca has filled in for Errol as Magister a few times when necessary, and the two of them recently hatched a newborn daughter named Chara.

Errol's duties as Magister, headmaster of Iomrall's magic academy, and a new father have taken him more and more away from the front lines of exploration and combat, and the group has had several adventures with him absent as of late. (This is, in part, an in-character explanation for Errol's player being unable to play much over the past year.)

GENERAL:
Jaekah
True Neutral Male Juvenile Magma Dragon Cavalier/Champion.

Spoiler:
Ever since being reborn in his new draconic body, Jaekah has been growing more and more distant from the rest of his companions as he struggles to understand his new place in reality. He has mostly fallen under the wing of Eranex the Runemasked, the feytouched silver dragon who has allied with Iomrall to serve as their champion and representative in the Long Game of the dragons of the Northlands. Eranex has been teaching Jaekah much of what it means to be a dragon, what the long life ahead of him will contain and what he should be expected to do and to avoid. As a result, while he still serves as Iomrall's general, his presence with the traveling cadre of its Lords has decreased dramatically, and many of his more localized responsibilities have been passed to capable hands such as Akiros Ismort or Casimir Alvaris, husband of the Countess.

(Jaekah's player left the group near the end of Blood For Blood. Following the routing of the Talon Lords lizardfolk, the defeat of Armagk, and the beginning of Red Hand of Doom, the excuse for his absence was that he was simply off doing Dragon Things due to the Long Game becoming a more immediate threat to the kingdom.)

SPYMISTRESS:
Lilith of the Wyld Wood, Firstborn of the Leanai-dubh, Champion of Titania, Rider of the Hunt, Speaker for the Small Folk, once called Blackheart
Chaotic Neutral Female Leanai-dubh Hunter (Fistfull of Denarii version)/Trickster.

Spoiler:
If there's anyone in the party who has undergone the most dramatic changes from day one, it's Lilith. Formerly a dhampir in hiding from her vampiric sire, Lilith earned a wish from Robyn Goodfellow, the Puck of the Summer Court, with which she requested to be free of the stain and curse of her "father". Puck responded to this by kissing her and, over the next few days, initiating a transformation into a completely new species of fey - an elf-like creature with a nature both fey and plant, identified by the cloak of leaves and thorns that grows from her shoulders and the vine underneath that serves as a third hand/prehensile tail. Lilith's new species was in time dubbed "leanai-dubh" or "children of the black wood", and as is the duty of all Firstborn she was soon to find herself tasked with propagating her species; thankfully, given the part-plant nature of the creature she'd become, this only entailed seeds dropping from her cloak and later sprouting as newborn leanai children.

Lilith quickly became one of the most influential people in Iomrall. In addition to her own stealth prowess and skill with a bow, Lilith holds the friendship and loyalty of almost all the Little Fey in the Stolen Lands, beginning with the self-appointed leaders of that group Perlivash, Tyg-Titter-Tut, and Ledipte. This extensive network of informants and spies is the means by which Lilith maintains her knowledge of Iomrall and its surroundings, and almost nothing escapes her notice as a result. Likewise she has a smaller collection of more traditional spies - including the kobold tracker Keldri of Sootscale, the aranea inquisitor Tessaro Glaicyd, former Stag Lord bandit "Silent" Valkeri Sothale, and Emari, a Winter Wolf found among the pups of Howl-of-the-South-Wind. Emari in turn is the alpha of a large pack of wolves, worgs, and winter wolves, and various hybrids thereof, under her and Lilith's command, alongside the worg lord Rannulf, the kingdom's Marshall.

Lilith has, after some debating and negotiating, eventually allied herself with the Summer Court, pledging herself directly to Queen Titania to avoid having to swear fealty to her daughter, Lady Cordelia, the cause of much of the party's strife in the past (including but not limited to being the one to curse Nyrissa in the first place). In turn, she's developed a complex relationship with Puck, including the Trickster choosing to begin officially and properly courting her within the past few weeks. She has one extremely important task set on her by Titania remaining - to reunite Briar with Nyrissa, and hopefully cure the mad nymph's insanity.

WARDEN:
Takeshi
Lawful Neutral Male Naga Samurai [Ronin]/Champion.

Spoiler:
Takeshi has probably changed the least of all the Lords of Iomrall. Like Jaekah, Errol, and Elegy, he fell in battle - in his case, slain by the Dancing Lady - and like all but Elegy was returned to life via reincarnate; Takeshi came back in the body of a Naga, the snake-tailed, shapeshifting humanoids and rulers of his former homeland of Senkaku. Takeshi adapted very well and very easily to his new form, and for the most part continued his life as it had been before - fighting, drinking, training, smithing, and sleeping.

In recent years he has created a civil guard/police force that keeps the peace in Iomrall during his absences or off-time, headed by a no-nonsense ex-soldier named Melinda Linville. The rest of his time has been spent honing his expertise with his two chosen weapons - the feybane katana once wielded by the wight oni known as the Lonely Warrior, and a greensteel wakizashi formerly belonging to the rusalka known as Ngara of the Slough.

There is but one thread remaining hanging from Takeshi's story - in his wish from the Puck, Takeshi wished to learn about the whereabouts of his missing father, a fled ronin like himself. He learned the man was close but it would be some time before he could face him. That man now wears the false name of Nakamura Shinobu - a Don Quixote-like ronin character from Senkaku fable - and has sworn himself into the service of the Queen of Forgotten Time....

TREASURER:
Derrick Wrath
Lawful Neutral Male Fetchling Warder/Guardian.

Spoiler:
Newest member of the Lords, Derrick was added to the group when Elegy, Lilith, and Takeshi traveled to Castle Maure to seek and defeat Ibrahim, Lilith's vampire mentor and former sire. The Fetchling had sought to escape his arrangements with the Black Seraph organization, and the price set for his freedom was the defeat of the infamous vampire. Perhaps against all expectations, Derrick met the three Lords of Iomrall there and aided them in exploring the castle and lent his axe to defeating Ibrahim, though the vampire escaped true destruction, then joined them in their journey home and was eventually given a place on their council.

Derrick is too new to really have much deep involvement in the story (his player joined after Jaekah's left and Errol's participation dwindled) but he has become the designated wielder of Briar, now in the form of a greataxe in his hands.

I've been a little bored waiting for Hell's Vengeance, so I've started looking at older APs and thinking about parties using newer classes and archetypes. Since the mythic conversion I have as an option was developed before the Advanced Class Guide, the new characters I came up with are limited to Core, APG, ARG, UM, and UC, as well.

Dei Falconi, gnome (Warden of Nature) ranger (falconer); Pioneer campaign trait; wants to establish a new gnomish order of knighthood (the Falcon Riders). Multiclass (after ranger 2 to pick up the combat style feat) to sorcerer (wildblooded; Fey/Sylvan bloodline*) 8/Arcane Archer 2/sorcerer +X; get a permanent enlarge person on bird companion (allowable with Share Spells) and train as a mount.

Galadon Aldori, half-elf (Ancestral Weapon with aldori dueling sword) magus (hexcrafter); Sword Scion campaign trait; wants to expand Rostland into the Stolen Lands; possible ruler of the fledgling realm in the Narlmarches. Multiclass (after magus 4) to bard (arcane duelist) 1/dragon disciple (red dragon) 4/magus +X.

Nonek, human (Kellid/Numerian; Heart of the Fields with Craft (Armor)) barbarian (invulnerable rager); Brigand campaign trait; hunter/trapper and former bandit looking to "go legit" after a few close calls (will have connection with ancestral spirits "awakened" early in the campaign). Multiclass to barbarian 6**/oracle (possessed oracle; Ancestors) 4/rage prophet X.

Sevaston, human (Brevic) inquisitor (Animal/Fur domain); Bastard campaign trait; 13 Int and Fast Learner feat; former street urchin and burglar (Vagabond Child) converted to the church of Erastil who feels drawn to the area (can be used in place of Jhod, if desired). Multiclass (after inquisitor 3 and Eclectic) to cleric (Animal/Fur and Community domains); gain elk animal companion with Animal/Fur domain.

*- bird companion gains full hp with first sorcerer level, but does not gain additional HD until sorcerer 4

**- to pick up Lesser Spirit Totem and Spirit Totem rage powers, as well as (probably) Energy Resistance and Lesser Elemental Rage (one through the Extra Rage Power feat); exact order of gaining oracle levels is flexible

Dark Archive

Three players, each with a gestalt PC.

Crabgrass (CN male elf gestalt rogue/illusionist): Rostlander, mischievous former thief.
Mazon (N female human gestalt barbarian/fighter): Brigand, raised by orcs.
Avena Lebeda (LN female human gestalt bard/unchained rogue*): Noble Born, daughter of a Baron in a somewhat disgraced branch of the Lebeda family. *Replaces sneak attack with bonus Skill Focus feats.

Current allies: Father Jhod Kavken (NG middle-aged male human gestalt cleric/spell-less ranger of Erastil).

Running two Kingmaker games with different groups. In short, one is "Team Good" and the other is "Team Evil." I'll start off with Team Evil, as they have progressed the most so far. And also because Team Evil is really, really hard to plan encounters for.

Misery Edgelady - LE Hellspawn Tiefling Cleric (Fiendish Vessel). Misery is a devotee of Belial, and has pretty much become the de-facto leader of the group. She was a former bandit, who basically bargained her way into service for the Swordlords to avoid the harsher penalties. Has thus so far lived up to her agreement, though she is starting to size up Restov for conquest/assimilation.

Johannes Crowley - NE Generic Tiefling Witch. Crowley is sadly the most boring of the group, simply more interested in his own comfort and profit than anything else. He also ensures that everyone is properly educated, as a nation of even rudimentary magic-users is a force to be reckoned with in virtually every manner possible, and he knows it.

Zatgan Zatgaan, of House Zaatgan - NE Gnome Mesmerist. Zatgan is a Rostland native who really rather enjoys seeing what he can get people to do, either by their free will or by gentle nudging from his magic. Absolutely loves that he's in a position of power now, and gleefully takes advantage of the fact that he can make laws in order to get some real high-quality entertainment at times.

King Baldric Sampson - NE Human Court Bard. Ah, King Sampson. Petty, selfish, egotistical.... Honestly, he spends a lot of time acting like a spoiled horny teenager. But beyond that is actually a fairly competent ruler who is -very- good at manipulating people.

So yeah. It's debuffs, the party.

" In Varnhold Vanishing
Abigale now Paladin/cleric of Erastil 7/1. Baroness. Main healer and Tank
Sven Rogue 8th Glass cannon. Uses Falchion to deal large amounts of damage, but falls over a lot. Last level took an increase in con which might increase his ability to stay on his feet.

Kelso. Item creating Wizard 8th. The only subtle one in the party

Jarl: Archery focussed ranger 8th, favoured enemies humans and fey. Really beginning to see this character shine. Was a bit over shadowed by Sven and Abigale (except against the human bandits) But all the archery feats are now meshing for serious damage."

We are now deep in to book 4 and have been having problems. At least 4 deaths in this book so far.

Abigale Paladin/Cleric 9th/2nd
Sven Rogue 11th
Kelso Wiz 11th
Jarl has been replace by Fighter 11th using two weapon fighting

Six weeks ago I wrapped a 2+ year long campaign of Kingmaker (April 2014-September 2016). I work at my local public library in young adult services so this game was an after school program. My players were all in middle or high school when we started (ages 12-16) and one player graduated high school by the time we finished.

It was an immensely satisfying and rewarding game to run. I wish I had had more time to flesh out the game (it needs a lot of outside prep to turn it from a good ap to a great one) though I did try to add a few touches of my own, such as expanding the role the Old Cults (particularly Hastur) played in the region; as well as dramatically expanding the role of the Swordlords including a rebellion by them against the Sutrova family inspired by the PCs actions.

I had to accommodate as many players as I thought I could get away with so I had eight PCs in total finish the campaign. Most of the kids playing have moved on to their own games, including running a sequel to Kingmaker staring the children of their characters 20 years in the future.

Anyway, my players:

Ajani: Male Human Wizard (Universalist) 15, this was the de facto leader their party and the one making most of the decisions in their kingdom of Ravenguard. This guy grasped the rules the fastest and is the one running the sequel campaign on his own. Ajani built his own wizard academy, had a goblin and a boggard for apprentices, attempted to woo the Old Beldame and recruited her to teach at his academy, forged alliances with Chief Sootscale, the centaur tribes, and the lizardfolk to create a huge multiracial force to siege Pitax and win, conquered Pitax and renamed it to Notax to drum up business for economic renewal after the siege, created his own demi-planes and cloned himself repeatedly, having his own clones teach at his academy, and made a bargin with Hastur for power and knowledge that came back to bite him big time. This guy was all over the place and was constantly busy with side projects. He also was the one most interested in the kingdom building mechanics and recorded the growth of Ravenguard diligently. A really standout player, he'll be a great GM.

Andolos the Golden, aka Andolos the Executioner, aka Andolos the Dragonslayer: Male Human Paladin 15, this guy was the face of their group and the most visible member of their party to their kingdom and to the wider world. The player himself rode a very fine line between righteousness and being a sociopath, but always made the good decision in the end. He was also a murder machine and gave me respect for the Paladin class in Pathfinder for how much damage he could stack into one good hit. He built a multi-denominational cathedral in the capital of Ravenguard, Gravestag (get it?), courted, married, and had children with the centaur princess Xamanthe, summoned a young celestial brass dragon as his bonded mount that was subsequently stolen by another player. He also had the best roll of the game when he threw his Holy Avenger sword into the heart of the black dragon Ithuliak with double nat 20's in the last book of the ap. This guy was always a wild card, but was a blast to play with.

Grimjaw: Male Strix Ranger 14, A lower key player, he mostly hung his hat on the fact that he was a strix and so never really fit into Ravenguard in a meaningful way. He got killed. A lot. The party was always willing to resurrect him, he had a habit of getting in over his head in combat. He also had a habit of getting his animal companions killed. He went through two lions before he settled on a roc that by then he was too scarred for to sent into battle. He married a nixie and built a cabin in the woods by her pond for them to live in, but got freaked out at her immortality and strange fey nature. Eventually, she sided with Nyrissa much to his horror. He was the PC who was tasked with carrying Briar and had a very odd, almost dependent relationship with the sword. He would often voluntarily fail a will save only to let the sword puppet him in a fight, since his own will saves were so low. His funeral ended up kicking off the sequel game run by the the player who ran Ajani.

Artemis: Female Halfling Druid 14, this player was missing for large swathes of the campaign and so got stuck as the warden of the kingdom as an excuse to explain away their long absences. Another low key player, Artemis was very quietly supporting. Always willing to back up other players, but never taking glory for himself or his character. Ended up ditching his animal companion for the domain spellcasting (was paranoid about his leopard, Sparky, getting killed after what happened to Grimjaw's companions. He was also the youngest player at the table and took a long time to come out from the older player's shadows.

Dr. Afro Sciccors: Male Human Cleric of Pharasma 14, despite the name, this guy was the chillest player at the table and a calming influence over the most excitable members of the party. Reveled in being a cleric, resurrected other PCs and NPCs alike at least a dozen times, was the only player to know about Ajani's bargin with Hastur and tried to atone him out of it to the point of taking on some of Ajani's debt to Hastur onto himself. Found a token of Nyrissa's on the body of the Stag Lord and had reoccurring dream conversations with her over the whole of the campaign, became the mayor of Varnhold, had a NPC cohort Inquisitor of Pharasma who liked to cut the fingers off of necromancers which scared the crap out of him. This guy was an absolute pleasure to play with.

Xenagos: Male Human Cleric of Gozreh 14, this guy moved away irl, and then moved back in the space of a year and rejoined the campaign. Though because of it, he didn't quite fit with the rest of the party who was there the whole time. He mostly showed up as a social roleplayer, which was fine. He never quite got the rules down and tried to play a battle cleric and poorly optimized it. As a result he didn't do much in the scheme of the game. Nice guy though.

Sir Lord Jaximus, the Lionblade, thrice-knighted, baron of Fort Jaximus (formerly Fort Drelev): Male Human Bard 3/Rogue 3/Lionblade 8, yes, that was the name he wrote out on his character sheet. The actual younger brother of the guy playing Andolos, this guy was also quite a character. He played an exiled Lionblade of Taldor and boy did he let everyone in game know. He also crafted numerous ridiculous disguises, which came in handy when it was time to infiltrate Fort Drelev (which he later took possession of), founded his own Lionblade school, created a wrist crossbow with adamantine bolts and a magical winch so he could hook into enemies from a distance and flying into them dagger first, obsessed with Numenrian tech and bought timeworn energy weapons that often blew up on him. This guy went off in random, but usually entertaining directions and was largely ineffectual in combat, so he compensated by trying to have as much fun in combat as possible by doing crazy stunts.

Raven: Female Halfling Wizard 3/Rogue 3/Arcane Trickster 8, the only girl in the party she played up being the unpredictable halfling trickster to the nines. She stole the Paladin's dragon bonded mount by beating him in a dad joke contest, tricking cultists of Hastur into an acid pit, convincing Ajani to use Polymorph Any Object to turn her into an anthropomorphic unicorn, and various other antics. None of this ended up being annoying at the table though, if anything it endeared her to the other players. Important since she was an addition to the game in progress and they were leery about letting her join at first. She added a lot of levity to the game and made it more fun in general.

All in all, a really great group of players and a really good ap to run.

I started a new Kingmaker based game over on RPoL a few months ago. We are now about halfway through Book-1. I have taken a slightly different approach to kingdom building. Rather than a single kingdom we are going to explore the ides of a March/Mark that consists of a number of semi-independent strongholds – it uses concepts from early D&D versions, feudalism and a few other sources. It also ties in the Paizo down-time rules and a few other campaign rule sets, all heavily tweaked to work with each other.

Now the group has settled down and normally work as two separate adventuring groups of Five characters (ATM one group are exploring the Kamelands, the other the Narlemarch) . Our Kingdom makers will be :-

Henry de la Maistre (Human Aristocrat, NPC) who will be March Lord

Bai Kao - Human, Oracle (Seer) 2
Zora - 1/2 Elf, Druid (Green Faith) 2
Aris'ta - elf/drow, Ranger 2
Pipre - Human, Alchemist 2
Rook Sanderson -Human, Cleric (Erastil) 1 /Ranger 1

Cyrus Ondoni - Human, Fighter 2
Valoria der lin Lebeda - Human, Wizard (diviner) 2
Andalon de Lebeda - Human, Cleric (Abadar) 2
Vik d'Lodovka - Human, Fighter (corsair) 2
Percy Arndell - Human, Rogue 2

There are six serious NPCs. Four left over from Players who moved on and a couple that we have brought in.

Adoven - Human, Rogue 1 /Bard 1
Borric d'Cordain - Human, Paladin 2 (Iomedae)
Rikka - Human, Magus 2
Tib - Human, Ranger 2
Brother Bart - Human, Cleric (Pharasma) 1
Big Job, ½ Orc, Barbarian 1

Our group has just started Rivers Run Red and basically spent the first session just sorting out leadership roles.

Gaius Valandil Human Paladin of Erastil - Baron of Valandor
Geof Half-Orc Skald - General
Del Half-Elf Slayer - Spymaster
Dak Dwarven Cleric of Shelyn - High Priest

We are at the end of the 2nd module. We have lost two characters, not to death but to exile. Dwarves twins. One slayed a captive of the nation, outside of the nation boundaries, but slayed none the less. He was exiled for taking him from his cell and and eventaully killing him. His brother left the nation at that time. Had a trial and everything, very cool.

Our current cast:
(Queen) Karliah Edasseril - CN Elven Verdant Sorceress Female
(Diplomat) Sir Anwen Nodar - LG Aasimar Evangelist Paladin of Abadar Male
(Spy Master) Zahiir Abd al Kadaar - LN Vishkanya Hunter Male
(Marshall) Varethane Rothcolt - LN Aasimar Pistoleros Gunslinger/Sanctified Slayer Male

Just finished off the Stag Lord and the party is looking fairly stable around 4 main players (& their pets!)

Riemann: CG Human War-priest (5th) of Gorum, decked in full plate and wielder of the sacred great-sword 'The Revenant' - hates bears
Nymeria: Riemann's pet Dire Wolf [I know they're not supposed to be domesticated, I found out afterwards and let this one be kept]

Zodrak: N? Gnome Bard (5th), master of knowledge, thrifty with a crossbow, catchphrase is "+2"
Bucephalus: Zodrak's pet combat trained Heavy Horse, has killed owl-bears, among other things
Frank: Zodrak's pet combat trained Woolly Rhinoceros, "Totally worth the gold guys" (Zodrak)

Shrek: N Half-Orc Fighter (5th), staunch defender of her allies, standard sword & board fighter, has never involuntarily fallen unconscious, owner of erotic literature store
Donkey: Shrek's Light Horse, has fallen unconscious on numerous occasions

Smith Herrings: N Human Unchained Rogue (4th), quick with his fingers, lethal under the right circumstances (e.g. flanking), typical French fighter ('tactically acute')

My group did something very interesting in our last session.

One of the characters is a halfling druid who rides a wolf. The wolf has routinely outshined the Fighter types of the party (mostly due to complete lack of optimization by those other melee'ers). The wolf quickly became the mascot of the group and when they started their kingdom, they even put the wolf on their flag.

Fast forward to the end of book 2 and the group has leveled to 7. The druid's AC at 7 gets a size bump, and the halfling's player did think his character would want to ride around the large wolf. Rather than simply dismiss him, he wanted to "reward" his stalwart companion/partner and bought a scroll of Awaken.

Our last session was a bunch of kingdom turns to bring them up to the size VV suggests they be at. They've had an opening at the Royal Enforcer for quite a while and they rallied around the druid researching a version of Anthropomorphic Animal that he could cast on the now magical beast wolf and purchasing a scroll of permanency to make it last on the wolf.

They took out 1BP per turn, dealing with the resulting Unrest to help fund this, total expenditure ~15k gp.

They were totally cool with the wolf not really wanting to be their Royal Enforcer and instead preferring something more like the Marshal. They let him tag along with the Marshal for a few months and then made a nice pitch about Royal Enforcer spinning it as much more than "killing criminals" along with a decent Diplomacy roll to get the wolf to move from his "desired" role to the one the group preferred.

I realise the wolf has a very high Str and this is a decent benefit to the kingdom, but the way it came about organically it wasnt the driving motivation behind it. They came together in support of their mascot and devoted not insignificant time/resources and then ended up with a happy coincidence.

It was really cool to see something like that happen, especially when we were getting pretty deep into the kingdom turns which can get pretty stale and meta-gamey at times.

Our PCs consists of: (Slight spoilers up to part 4)

The A-team

Gotthard Cassimir: Male CN Human Fighter/Barbarian
Bastard son of a small Rostlandian house. After the death of his biological father, his mother wanted nothing to do with the illegitimate son. Was placed in an orphanage, but fled south ending up joining a band of mercenaries and being adopted by their leader. The mercenaries were (presumably) all killed in an ambush, leaving Gotthard to roam the wilderness in a frenzied state of CE madness killing everything in sight. After a particularly grim episode, he was unable to kill a small puppy which ended up being his future companion and anchor to sanity. Returned to his old home looking for a purpose, joining a small band of adventurers roaming into the stolen lands. His adoptive brother Marek survived the ambush of the mercenaries and was later unveiled as the host body for Armag the twice-born's resurrection.

Yanislav "Yan" Barga: Male NG Human Ranger/Rogue (sniper)
Left in the wilderness of the Gronzi forest as an infant to be raised by foxes, Mowgli style. Adopted at the age of five by a large Korvosan/Garundi family inhabiting a trade post and shrine to the goddess Sarenrae, attempting to spread the faiths influence of good in these foreign lands. Struggles with both literacy and keeping track of intricate politics and civilized behavior, which makes him even more desperate to prove his humanity by showing it's capability to do good and offer redemption against evil-doers. Travels into the stolen lands to show his virtue as a human. Was later revealed to be the son of Duma the sly, thus being of part fey (dryad) heritage. His mother was one of the foxes who raised him during his early years, formerly a druid cursed to remain in wild-shape, due to a mysterious transgression she performed along with Duma.

Jorhim Medvyed: Male N Gnome Druid
A gnome adopted into the ranks of the Medvyed house. Scholarly and eccentric, longs to reconnect with his gnome heritage and the first world, often absorbed in his own research and machinations. Ventured into the stolen lands after starting to experience fading, something which happens to gnomes after being abstracted for too long from their own kind. Was possibly estranged from his own people by the lantern king's schemes.

Ivanovic: Male LE Half-elf Rogue
A mysterious and secretive half-elf, usually keeping to himself within the shadows. Practices a somewhat Machiavellian philosophy. His life seems almost intentionally shrouded and as a higher being once claimed she was unable to read his thoughts, posing the question if he might be imbued by a certain type of dark magic.

The B-Team: We play a secondary team that goes out on minor missions while the A-team is busy governing their kingdom.

Vadan Armstrong: Male LG Dwarf Paladin (stonelord)/Fighter (lore warden)
A former lastwallian crusader aiming to prove his worth to the world as a paladin of Torag. Adamantly proud of his dwarven heritage and sometimes uncannily raunchy for a paladin.

Danielle "Daní" Montag: Female N Tiefling Witch
Initially a Sylph, but later resurrected as a tiefling (GM permission), adapting to her new body rather quickly, though mentions missing the "feel of the winds". Started the campaign suffering from amnesia after being assaulted by her sociopath ex-lover, an alchemist and drug dealer from Riddleport. Grew up in a quirky academic family. Despite holding several degrees from various Varisian academies, she was still put at the kid's table during formal dinners, which led her to rebel and explore the criminal underground of Riddleport where she would meet her now ex-lover. Since regaining her memories, Daní has become adamant about ensuring that her new "family" sticks together, fiercely afraid of betrayal and proportionally vindictive against those that betray her.

Former members:
Adolphus Von Kagernack: Male LG Human Cleric of Iomedae
Former lastwallian crusader and medic, and a friend of Vadan's. Perished at the hands of an evil entity.
Salazar deLeonidas: Male NE Dhampir Magus
Awoken from 500 years of magically induced sleep. Died from spider venom.
Pin-Xian: Male LE Suli Monk
A self serving and greedy Monk who misinterpreted the teachings of his masters seeing power as the absolute form of order. Betrayed the team by running away during a climatic boss fight, ensuring Daní's determination to hunt him down and kill him.

So PCs are currently level 8 and I guess at the end of book 2, but there's so much homebrew content it's hard to track with the books.

If you're in Lyee's game, get out because I feel like dropping minor spoilers about what's upcoming. :>

Main cast:
Tyco: Gnome Cavalier/Bard/Battle Herald/Baker, has some unusual beliefs about dragons. Bakes many deserts. Has best-friend and wolf Lily. Wields Briar, which they're just finding about about it's lore (I was not happy waiting for the players to get involved in the 'main plot' until the end of book 5). Very friendly character. Does much damage when charging.

Shaela: Aasimair Sorceress. Good at Illusions and Scorching Ray. Wears impractical dresses when adventuring. High diplomacy. Close friends with Runa and Sarah (below).

Janus: Half-Elf Wizard. Pointy hat included. Wields staff which gives bonuses related to knowledge. Very wizardy wizard. Does wizard things, including research.

Hix: Newest PC. Human cha-based Ranger/Oracle. Townboy who's a bit lost out here but is learning quickly. Probably has the most common sense in the group.

Not existing: Anyone with a decent wis/survival score while exploring the wilderness.

Notable Previous:
Liuk. Current ruler of the kingdom of Shamrock. Hix's player's old PC. Oracle. Quit adventuring as he had no heir and the population was worried about the danger he got into.

Dorn. Wolf-druid. Current high priest. Does druidy religiousy things.

Notable NPC cast:
Sarah. Manticore. Valley girl mannerisms. On a non-sentient diet. Loves talking about cute monsters/magical beasts she's found. Sends half the PCs/players mad with her speech patterns. Very friendly. Frequently around for gossip.

Runa. Ex-Zon-Kuthon priestess, now an inquisitor of Damerrich, leading an inquisition against evil-aligned gods in the PCs kingdom. Zon-Kuthon has replaced Gyronna in my campaign, and Vordekai will be replaced with a Zon-Kuthon abomination.

Solitude. Giant raven. Used to be in service of The Lost Prince, but was gifted to the PCs in return for a favour, to be specified at a later date. Hix thinks that owing one of The Eldest an unspecified favour is a horrible idea. Others love Solitude. Current spymaster, because giant raven.

Angelo. Ninja. Tyco's friend. Very stereotypical ninja. Does not remotely fit into the setting. Back when Tyco was spymaster, Angelo did all the spy-related things while Tyco baked cakes and distracted people. Cares greatly for Tyco's wolf lily.

Vellany. Fey princess. Was in The Lonely Barrow, which was expanded to a major threat that raided the PCs kingdom and had a small army of fey. Now Tyco's close friend and helping the PCs kingdom stay in touch with nature.

The Stag Lord. Attacked the bandit fort in book 1 with the PCs, after having been overthrown by Dovan. Just got tricked by Nyrissa into unleashing the Colossal++ super-owlbear, rescued by the PCs, and is now going towards their kingdom to get really drunk and maybe look for a more steady job.

The Hungering Dragon. CR 17-or-so decay-based monster that has its own mountain in the middle of the first book's area (northern greenbelt). Tends to destroy a farm or two each month. PCs want to slay it, but know it's out of their league. Trying to figure out how to.
