Clearly, Willy is delaying, waiting for an opening. Audric is up, and Willy can jump in when he wants.

Initiative:

Fist
Arrika
Horseman
Dogs
Torrent
Willy (delaying)
Audric (concealed, bloodied) <==
Thom
Scout 2 (bloodied, Fist's Preferred Enemy, marked by Fist)
Thug (bloodied, cursed)

Male Half-Elf Warlock(Star) 1

Audric stumbles back to the bar, still focusing on the leader. "Why do you keep trying? All of this will not effect anything. We are all just fighting a meaningless battle in a meaningless war on a meaningless planet."

Move to D4, curse the scout, then use Vicious Mockery on the thug. (vs Will, target takes -2 to attack until EOMNT) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Thom is getting irritated by this whole mess. He sees the thug blocking hte entrance, and decides to take him down.

Magic Missile on Thug. Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 vs. Reflex, Damage 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11

After this he will move out of the Poison Apple Inn, jumping through the window. Ending in D10.

HP: 14/23
Surges: 6/7
AP:1

Edit: Glad I still have all my encounters and dailies still, because the paizo dice bot hates me, he he

Ghost post?

Audric wades his way through the debris on the floor to the other side of the room, taunting the thug in the door along the way. Finally, the thug's wounds get the better of him, and he collapses to the floor with a groan Audric's pact boon fires.

Seeing his opening, Thom turns and fires another bolt of magical energy at the scout on the stairs, but the missile blows a small hole in the wall, instead. Nevertheless, Thom tries to escape from the burning building, but the broken bits of ceiling all over the floor make for slow going, and he is just able to reach the door the windows are still boarded and the floor from D to K is difficult terrain.

Seeing the thug fall under the onslaught, the scout throws his morningstar to the floor and his hands to the sky and screams, "I give up! Don't kill me!" as he stumbles down from the stairs.

Oh, I'll just quote his post.

Thanks. Why does it do that?

Careful, do not question this, otherwise the Paizo monster will eat you up, he he.

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

Fist goes to slam the Scout with his Maul but pulls back.

"Ahh, Pelor's Shiney Arse!

"I really should thump you but it ain't no fit way for people to die roasting to death in a burning building."

Fist points to the Scout's companions with the butt end of his Maul.

"Help me lug them outside so they don't roast to death in here and you can go find yourself a healer to patch up that head of yours."

Fist will keep his Mark (re-applying as required) on the Scout in case he chooses to get 'upity' or run off.

Fist works to move the bodies of the minions, downed scout, and thug out of the burning building with the aid of the surrendered scout.

While he works, Fist mutters, 'My daddy used to say don't complain that the bull don't give milk.'

Fist will do what he needs to do to help the injured get out and get stablized. Fist has Athletics +8 and Endurance +9 for doing this sort of work. If Arcesilaus needs to make a roll then go ahead.

The scout does his best to help Fist drag his comrades out of the burning bar, unless someone does something to hinder this task.

The armored man on the horse rides off, the dogs at his heels, without looking back.

Anyone want to add anything or do something specific?

Use 1 Healing Surge.

currently
HP: 19/23
Surges: 5/7
AP: 1
Encounter: 1/1
Daily: 1/1

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

Currently 20/33 HP with 3 Temp HP

Thom has a good plan if we have time to declare a short rest and I would like to spend two healing surges for 2x8 HP.

New totals would be;
33/33 HP with 0 Temp HP
10/12 Surges
AP: 0
Daily: used

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

Spend 2 surges.
HP: 25/25
Surges: 6/8
AP: 0/1

You all take a moment to catch your breath outside the burning building and realize fully that the attack is underway. It seems that Gate Pass has been bombed, presumably using some sort of flying monster as an aerial platform.

Torrent suggests you hurry and get to the meeting with Rivereye. "I am worried that the firebombing might make him flee, and I cannot risk losing him."

You take a moment to see what has happened to the rest of the city. The streets are filling with panicked people, and though it seems that the bombing ended within minutes, a battle has begun at the nearby west wall. Townsfolk rush about trying to put out fires or get to the shelter of temples, and soldiers hurry to their posts, slowed by the throng and chaos. All the while, bells ring urgent warnings up and down the mountain pass.

"Quickly," urges Torrent. "We have little time to waste."

"Well at least it should be easy to make our way there in the confusion."

Do I know of any shortcut to the depository?

Male Half-Elf Warlock(Star) 1

Spending 2 healing surges, bringing me up to 24 HP.

"Such a wonderful melody this makes. Come now, we've a meeting to attend." With that, Audric attempts to lead the party into the crowd, whistling as he goes.

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

"Let's get moving then." On the way, Arrika will describe the horseman to the group, since she was the only one who actually saw him.

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

Fist not being very streetwise will trust the wisdom of the others to guide the way through Gate Pass by the quickest route.

Thom Verikal wrote:

Do I know of any shortcut to the depository?

Thom, make a Streetwise check.

Traveling quickly from the remains of the pub, you see that Gate Pass is in turmoil. Torrent moves ahead about twenty feet, making haste for the depository. As you round a corner, you nearly run over a man carrying a woman out of a doorway. Both are burned severely and he appears nearly spent. Three children, huddled in coats and whimpering, follow behind. “Help me,” the man croaks, his pain clearly visible.

Streetwise 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Thom Verikal wrote:
Streetwise 1d20-1

You don't know much about the depository at all.

Male Half-Elf Warlock(Star) 1

Streetwise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

"Times such as these test you and you emerge from them stronger." Arrika says as the group passes the man and the wife. She doesn't stop to talk beyond that.

Inspiring Word on the husband. He gets a surge plus 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 hp back. That should keep him alive.

Audric Dolet wrote:

Audric knows where the depository is and that it seems Torrent is leading you on the quickest path.

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

"My daddy says 'There's always room on the mountain for one more.'"

Fist turns to the man.

"We're leaving the city and if you want to come with me my back is strong and wide enough to take a few more."

Fist says to the others,

"Keep going. I'll catch up as I would only frighten someone pint sized with my good looks."

If man wants to go with Fist:

Fist will offer to carry the children to help the man keep up with the rest of the group.

"We can leave you and your family at a farm outside the city. I know most of the ranchers around here and get you a place to stay till the worst is over. I also know a few caves outside the city that the Rags won't likely check.

Athletics +8 if Fist needs to carry and try and keep up.
Endurance +9 if Fist needs to see if he can avoid spending a Healing Surge from tiring.
Arcesilaus can make the rolls if necessary on Fist's behalf.

Torrent slows and acknowledges Fist's attempts to help the family. "We have time to do the right thing."

Bolstered by Arrika's encouraging words, the man lifts his wife lovingly and looks at Fist with a weary expression. "No one's leaving the city, friend. The Rags'a got us trapped. Besides, my life is here."

Torrent looks up the street and points out a temple to Pelor that is setting up a triage tent for wounded citizens. "There, Fist. Take the children."

As Fist gathers the little ones, carrying a 5-year-old girl on his shoulders, Torrent leads the man, who says his name is Rensar, to the temple, where the family is gathered up by Peloran priests and led to water and shelter. Seeing them cared for, Torrent turns back to pushing through the throng. She catches Fist's eye in passing and gives him a smile and a wink. "For a man named 'Fist,' you're awful soft."

EDIT: 40 XP each

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

"Well, Fist is a traditional Orc name. You don't last long with a name like Rosebud."

Fist heads on now to try and catch up with the rest of the group.

Your group continues onward through darkness, and, as you pass a number of burning structures, you see people crossing the connecting skybridges to safety. From a building ahead, you hear screaming and see a cluster of bystanders staring and pointing upwards towards the fourth floor, just below the roof. A woman is looking out an open window to the people below, screaming for help. Smoke billows from the portal, and she looks back into the burning edifice and then screams even louder as she turns back to face the street. She claws up the frame and places a foot on the sash.

People in the street below scream up to her, "Maibel! Hold on!" but it's clear that no one will be able to reach her from within the building, as the flames grow more intense.

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

I take it that we are in a bit of a skill challenge with some vingnette scenes? Just asking to clarify the amount of role-playing and roll-playing desired.

Fist looks at the situation and realizes that he chose well when he carried his climbing kit with him into the city.

"Normally, I don't carry my climbing kit with me in the city. Mostly, need it for getting goats down from cliff sides. I swear, goats are dumber then cats. Always climbing up some where and then bleating their fool heads off when they forget how to get back down.

"Just lucky I guess that I expected trouble with the Rags on our doorstep. I got a grapple and good bit of rope that will sure enough reach that window.

"I can toss it up there unless there is someone here with a better plan or a better aim when it comes to tossing grapples."

Fist will listen if anyone else has a plan or wants to make use of setting the grapple.

if there are no other plans or grapple users:

Fist will use Athletics +8 to attempt the rescue of the woman using the grapple in the climber's kit to set a grapple and a rope. If there is a source of water then he will wet the rope first and his clothes but will proceed without the water if there isn't a suitable supply.

if needed Athletics roll1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

willing to spend a healing surge if needed to succeed on a failure and if any other rolls are needed then Arcesilaus can make them on Fist's behalf

Thom chimes in, "I could climb up the rope and help her climb down, or maybe make sure the rope is secured. so she can slide down."

I will use Acrobatics (untrained) to climb up the rope, once Fist has secured the rope. Roll 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

Arrika frowns. "We don't have time to stop and help every person in the city." She pauses as Thom and Fist decide to try and rescue the woman, though her stance is one of impatience.

There's nothing so formal as a skill challenge going on (I will make it explicit when you start one of those). Just some scenes as you cross the city ... there is no 'correct' way to handle these. I know it's hard to 'roleplay' on PbP, but I thought these would be fun to offer some opportunities.

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

kk.

"I know you can't save every seed in the wood but Grandmother teaches that if you don't save a few then there won't be anything to plant next year."

Fist assists Thoms efforts.

"Besides, I ain't no use when it comes to talking to gnomes. Far as I'm concerned they're one step above gophers. Constantly digging holes under trees. Making a life out of poping out of places and going boo.

It ain't Orc and I don't go trust'n people that don't stand up and shake your hand."

Between the two of Fist and Thom (and the grappling hook), the rope is secured. Fist heaves himself up,

It's Athletics to climb, not Acrobatics, and Fist is much stronger than Thom.

with Thom holding the bottom of the rope, and he reaches Maibel with little trouble. Before the long, the terrified woman is on the ground and being comforted by other townsfolk.

Torrent looks around. "Has anyone seen Willy?" She waits a moment and then shrugs. "I guess he'll have to catch up."

50 XP each

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

Fist looks around and notes the halfling is missing. It wasn't surprising to Fist, halflings were cousins of gnomes in his book. They were hardly what you would call a trust worthy race.

"Typical. When a house is on fire there are always some people that you can count on to be at the front door.

Gnomes and Halflings, plenty of talk but not much lifting."

Fist follows along where the others lead.

Male Half-Elf Warlock(Star) 1

"Now now, Fist. If something is meant to be lifted, it will be lifted. If something is meant to burn, it will be burnt."

Well at least he didn't have an Uncle Trapspringer, he he

Thom says, "Unfortunate, he could have told us how to get out of the city. Now we will need to find another way out."

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

"Well, there are rumours that the one temple was sacred to the Resistance but I still like my idea of putting a message in a pot and having the priest's help us.

We also still get some sticks if we wanted to pretend to be wizards?"

Only a block away looms the gate that leads to the next district, and your destination, the depository. The press of people is considerable as they flee eastward, and the passage is too narrow to allow easy exit from the western ward.

As you push on, screams begin to erupt from the north. At first, they are far away, but slowly, like a wave rolling onto the shore, the panic grows and moves southward. A soldier patrolling the gate wall suddenly jumps with a curdling scream into the crowd and disappears from your view.
You think you still hear his screams go on a moment and then stop, but you can’t be sure; his plight is quickly eclipsed when less than a dozen feet from you, men, women and children begin to wail.

You are each filled with an irrational panic, just as Torrent points to the sky and yells, "What in the name of Melora?" You each begin to flee without thought or plan through the crowd, which is flailing and tearing at each other in panic. You are battered and scratched 1 damage to Thom, 5 damage to Audric, after which Thom and Arrika shake of the inexplicable terror. Audric and Fist are still subject to its grip and continue to fight through the crowd 6 damage to Audric and Fist. Finally, these two also manage to rid themselves of the unnatural fright and regain their composure.

After regrouping, Torrent explains that she saw only a bat-winged shape the size of a house swooping over the crowd, but it was too dark to make out the creature clearly.

20 XP each

Male Half-Elf Warlock(Star) 1

Audric returns from the crowd nursing a bloody nose. "There are things in these skies that none were meant to see..."

Yeah, I took 11 damage total? I'll be spending 2 healing surges when I have the chance.

"Gods I have heard stories of such creatures, called dragons. if one was entering the city, I fear for the welfare of everyone living here. And if one was working for the Ragasian Empire..." He leaves the thought unfinished.

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

"Flying things are not our problem. Let's stay mission focused and get to the depository."

As you turn back to the gate between the two districts of Gate Pass, a shadow-cloaked figure steps out of an alley and approaches your group. It nods to Torrent and says, "I'm here."

"Ah, Gomi," she exhales. "I was hoping you'd find us. We missed you at the Pub. Bounty hunters ... Black Horse, I think. Introductions are for later; We're headed to the meet with Rivereye."

Finally passing through the gate, the depository is in sight. Eighty feet tall, it flickers with oranges and reds from the fires beneath. Long, garishly colored banners hang from the roof to the topmost balcony. They drift lazily in the thermal currents, displaying the latest merchant advertisements. To your left, you hear a well-dressed man calling out in a plaintive voice, “Kiki, please come out, it’s fine now! Please, Kiki!”

Thom knows time is running short, but he just cannot ignore the calls of the man. He turns to the gentleman, and asks,"Are you ok, sir?"

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

27/33 HP, 10/12 Surges

Fist rubs his bruised shoulders.

"Bah, dragons know better than to travel in these parts. Grandfather Eagle rules these heights. Great Uncle Wyrm tried to catch Grand father Eagle but he couldn't build his home high enough.

You do know the story don't you?"

Fist looks at the others expecting their understanding.

"Of course he's not ok. The city is under attack, and we're not the watch. We don't have time to play rescue everyone, let's just move."

Male Changeling Rouge 1

"Yes leave the peasents, if they can't fight they have no use for now."

Gomi has the apearance of a lithe unshaven human wearing oiled black leather and a dark grey hooded cloak. He looks completly unremarkiable and would blend into the the background if not for speaking.

Thom Verikal wrote:

His voice sounding forlorn and devastated, the man turns, his eyes brimming, and runs towards you crying, “Please, will you help me find my baby?”

Thom stares at the small man, wondering if he himself ever bcame a liability, he would also be tossed aside like a piece of refuse.

"Sometimes we lose sight of what we are fighting for, if we are not careful."

Turning his attention to the man, he replies, "And where did you see him last?"

Male Half-Orc Warden 1 xp 325

Fist casts around with his eyes and years but he knows this isn't his best skill.

He'd probably have been a better rancher if he could have kept track of the animals on his farm better.

Instead, he tended to lose track of the animals and it wasn't till they started bleating that he realized there was a problem.
