Pathfinder Char Gen - Help?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I figured I might restart my character gen project for Pathfinder. Is there anyone with C#, XML, or related software knowledge who would be interested in helping or providing suggestions for design?

Good luck is all I can say. I've been working on my own character generator for well over 9 months in my spare time, and there are so many options to cover. So really depends on what you want to do with the application.

Cool. Just an FYI, I really like Hero Lab for PFRPG, and if you're more computer savvy than me (which doesn't take much) you can do a lot to customize it. It's ~ $20 IIRC. I found it to be worth every penny.

If you still want to do your own that's cool. I know there are some other folks on these boards who have done a lot of work on their own if you look around.

Good luck with however you go!

The UI of HL sort of sucks, though. :(

The interface doesn't flow correctly somehow. It has something to do with the way left and right mouse clicks work. It's also a bummer that the columns to the right can't be individually resized so that more information can be shown instead of being clipped to the column width (at least an option to wrap text instead of clipping it on a per-column basis would be useful).

It's okay software. And I understand their customer support is supposed to be great. But it's heavy with DRM, is a Windows-only product, and has this UI that bugs me. With all that said, it's as good as PCGen and better in some cases (worse in others).

I could pay $20 for a piece software I only want part of, or I could make my own.

That was the problem I was considering. I think the solution is to make something generic like Redblade. You just have to add the capability to add generic abilities with a secondary capability to add bonuses dynamically - which is also the case with feats, race abilities and what not.

Still its alot of option, so certaintly have a plan on what you want to do before you go addhoc into it like I did and am always coming up with new things for it hehe.
