Rogue Talents?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Scarab Sages

Hello,

Looking over the Rogue Talents in the core book I was a little disappointed. While some of the Talents are amazing... (trap spotter comes to mind) Combat trick provides the same benefit (and more freedom of choice) as the Finesse Rogue and the Weapon Training Talents. I don't see why they added the later two.

I was hoping for Talents that increased the maximum range of sneak attacks, or let you feint (using bluff) at range or use evasion in medium armor.

What Rogue Talents are you hoping for in future releases?

You can only take each talent once, so Combat Trick only counts once. The later talents are to ensure that Finesse and Focus are still available after Combat Trick is taken.

Edit: As a GM I typically ignore this rule. :p

I think there are enough good talents to keep you going. Bleed is nice, Crippling Strike is great, and Opportunist and Dispelling attack have a place in a lot of builds.

There's going to be a LOT more rogue talents to choose from in the upcoming Advanced Player's Guide.

But yeah; the reason Combat Trick seems to overlap with a few others is because you can only take a talent once. This basically just ensures that a few of the REALLY useful for rogues feats are available multiple ways.

Cool. I was hoping Paizo or a 3rd party would crank out more. My character has tons of advanced thief talents he wants to take, but is really in need of 1 or 2 more normal thief talents in the 2-8 range that can help him out.

Somewhere I could have SWORN I saw a bunch of homebrewed rogue talents someone has posted. Ill have too look and see if I can find those again, or if my mind is making stuff up again.

I saw those too, either last week or the week before and now can't seem to find them. If you find the link, please post it!

Are you going to drop any previews... hopes quietly

No I hear you!! I was the guy that bought all the 3.5 splatbooks as they came out and I don't think I've ever been so excited to see a new sourcebook come out, except for maybe the Expanded Psionics Handbook.

Damn.

I think you're mind is making stuff up again, but then I get this dejavu feeling that I might remember the same thing. :)

In all seriousness, I used to love playing a Thief Acrobat in 1E. Even with the clunky mechanics that I used to have to add to the bottom of the character sheet like running jump, etc. it had an air of cool that set it apart from the other classes.

With the playtest completed for the additional base classes in the Advanced Players Guide and talk of added material for the PF Core Classes, I'm wondering how big this book is going to be?

I have faith, however, that Paizo has learned from the history of their forefathers and won't break the beautiful balance they've created.

This is making the wait the for the APG that much harder. New classes, more feats, more rogues talents, prestige classes. The more hints I hear the more awesome this book sounds. I can't wait to get. It's getting almost as bad as waiting the PF core book last year.
