"Rings Of Mind Shielding" - A Question

Rules Questions

Upon looking up what a "Ring Of Mind-Shielding" does, I have a question - does it protect you from unwanted telepathic communication?

It protects you from magical attempts to discern your alignment, "Discern Lies" and "Detect Thoughts"

I'm just curious, if it protects your thoughts then I am right to assume your immune to attempts to spoken to telepathically?, the effects mentioned name two spells specifically and I wonder if that can be applied to like-minded effects (such as Telepathy is related to Detect Thoughts in how it works)

I'd assume it does, but I'd appreciate other peoples input.

Protecting you from "unwanted" telepathic communication seems to imply that it is a selective effect. Since the ring provides a constant ability without need for conscious thought from the wearer, I'm not sure the ring would be able to determine what constitutes unwanted contact.

I've always treated it like a cloaking device, keeping your auras, thoughts, etc, from being detected. Telepathy isn't detecting, it's simply sending, so I wouldn't have it blocked. If I did, that might end up as a drawback, since any telepathic contact uninitiated by the wearer of the ring would automatically fail (an exception to this would be a spell like telepathic bond since that would be presumably be placed on the ring-wearer willingly.)

Ah, I see. I was curious if it did affect telepathy if it was (by wearing it) some kind of selective effect and I see what you mean - its always on or always off (by removing it). The reason I am asking is based on this scenario.

A enemy Succubus successfully 'Charms' a PC that was deafened a few minutes before in a previous fight. If he had this ring on, he shouldnt be able to recieve instructions verbally or mentally (the spell essentially would fail), thats what I believe is what your trying to say - and I totally agree with that.
