Final Class Playtest - Summoner SLA

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Back in December Jason said the Summon Monster ability of the summoner should be changed (dropping Standard Action and 1 min/lvl duration).

However, in the Final Class Playtest PDF it still has the Summon Monster SLA as a Standard Action that lasts one-minute per level.

Did I miss a retraction of what Jason said? Are people going with the Standard Action & 1 min/lvl listed in the latest PDF?

Jason released some nerfs to the summoner between the 1st and 2nd playtests because some problems with it were obvious and preventing him from getting good data. The second playtest reverted some of these because many people felt they were too large a nerf. Go with what is in the 2nd playtest pdf.

There was another version of the summoner between the initial pdf and the final playtest. In the second version the SLAs had the normal casting times and durations, and were further restricted to having only one active at a time. There were also some slight nerfs to the eidolon, specifically forbidding them from wearing armor.

The final playtest version reinstated standard actions and duration in minutes to the SLAs, although it kept the 'only one casting active at a time' restriction. Instead there were heavy nerfs to the eidolon (in particular fewer hit dice and a cap on natural attacks), and to the spell list (no more access to any spells at all at a lower spell level then wizards - which is pretty harsh for a caster with bard progression).

On a thread later, James Jacobs admitted that they might have come down a little hard on the summoner. It got nerfs to every aspect of it. So im sure its gonna be little better and more polished up in the Final edition.

My guess - That they are gonna leave the spells as they are (probably get some unique stuff added to list, nothing over lvl 6 though) and Eidolons HD will probably come up a little. But thats just speculation.
