Small, medium, tiny, medium and large?

Rules Questions

Could someone please explain, i'm a bit track lost in the equipment section of the rulebook.

There is a table with tiny, medium and large weapon damage. Also there are small and medium veriants of weapons. So if i understand correctly i can buy a tiny medium weapon or a large small weapon, or other combinations. Depeding on what i would buy, it does different damage and costs an other amounth of gold.

For example, a tiny small longsword does 1d3 damage... and a large medium shortsword does 1d8?

You're looking for the weapon qualities section at the beginning of the weapons section in the equipment chapter.

You should use the Tiny and Large Weapon Damage table to determine what damage a Tiny or Large weapon will do in comparison to the Medium version. You should not use the Small damage in this consideration at all. There is no such thing as a Tiny Small longsword (that would be a Fine longsword, and would do 1 hp of damage I believe--anything with a damage die of 1d6 or smaller would do 0 damage as a Fine weapon), for instance. A Tiny longsword does 1d4 damage. A Large Medium shortsword is just a Medium longsword.

Table 6.4 list all the weapons and the damage they do if made for a small or medium creature. A halflings longsword is not as big as a humans so it will not do as much damage. Your character will do the damage indicated based on his/her size catagory with the appropriatly sized weapon. See page 144 CoreRules about using weapons that are too big or small for your size catagoy.

Talbe 6.5 then expands on this so you can calculate the damage of a weapon if it was made the opporprate size for a tiny or a large creature. A pixie made long sword will not do the same damage as a giant made longsword. To figure ou the damage it would do you find how much damage the weapon does when made at the medium size and compare it on the chart to the acutal size you have.

For example a long sword made the correct size for a human does 1d8.
If it was made the correct size for a halfling it would do 1d6.
If gaint made a longsword correctly sized for him it would do 2d6 and if tiny creature made on correctly sized it would do 1d4.

Hope that helps.
