Dragonslayer prestige class

Some years ago I played a high-level solo adventure with a friend of mine which involved him to become a dragonslayer (it was still AD&D 2E so we came up with a "kit").
How do you think I should convert that old character today. Is there something like a Dragonslayer prestige class or should I have him take a few levels of ranger (dragon enemy) or inquisitor?

If he hunts evil dragons, paladin. That's about all you need, really.

In the 3.5 book Draconamicon(may be spelled wrong), there was a Dragonslayer Prestige class, and another that had a little quote that made fun of Dragonslayers...

He's a CG Frutzii barbarian that moved south, badly fit for a paladin. He hunts blue dragons in particular.

We used the 3.5 edition Dragonslayer in a first draft of the new stats, but we decided to use only Pathfinder core material (with core in also include the new APG).

Humm, ranger then... prestige class would be kinda tough. Gotta take a look on what's out there. Although I wouldn't let the paladin idea fall on deaf ears. I always liked paladins with Neutral and Chaotic Alignment.

honestly in my old council of wyrms 2e book was this plain awesome dragon slayer kit, i would LOVE to see made into a viable prc... it had some amazing abilities really made it feel like a dragon slayer. things like...

wing clip: prevents dragons from flying for X rounds
throat strike: prevents dragon from using its breath weapon for X rounds

two i can think up with out digging that book out... kind of stuff would really make a dragon slayer stand out... i may have a project ahead of me! to the closet!

Paladin = Immune to fear, makes all spell saves, swift healing, smite evil

Really 'nough said.

I suppose you could make a PrC that has all of their abilities fine tuned for negating dragons but from what I can tell it really seems like Pathfinder is staying away from. "Prestige Class that is good for one thing and one thing only" I don't think we'll ever see the PrC again even in a Chronicle about dragons.

That is also exactly where I picked up the dragonslayer kit for the original write-up.

This PC was a devotee of Io, and fought in his name for the purity of dragonkind. He's also pretty high level (16) so I can mix up fighter/ranger/other classes or prc. The paladin idea is very nice, and I had some NPCs that would definitely fit, but not him - too barbaric in every aspect.

you could take the 3.5 prc and convert it to pathfinder rules....

or not at all.

on the other hand, you could look at the area books and see what feats you can take that would do the job...

It's valid to say, that Paladins are chosen of the Gods, not the otherway around. A paladin can come from ANY background, an simply be chosen by said deity to do his bidding regarding something. If that guy has a God that represents what he does, he could be a paladin. Slightly diferent from the Core one for being Chaotic, but he could.

Anothe option is adding a template or something of the like that gives Smite evil, that alone is enough to break any Wyrm.

Did a little search and found this.

Looks like a homebrew, but it might have a few ideas you could use.

There is a dragonslayr prestige class in the Draconomicon, particularly suited to fighting Dragons...especially the +1 dmg/class level.

The same book also has feats for carving up dragons if you want to go straight fighter.

Well, a lot of what it takes to make an effective character concept is to change the flavor of the character.

Honestly, Paladin is probably the best fit... But what's to stop a Paladin from taking Power Attack, wearing Hide armor, and wielding a Greataxe? I mean, he can LOOK however you want. Just call him a paladin for mechanical purposes.

Also, nothing beats giving a Half-Orc Wizard a greataxe bonded object and arcane armor proficiency just to fool the guys in front of you into thinking that he's a Barbarian, then springing a freaking Chain Lightning spell on them.

Also the number escape me right now but there was a may issues of dragon with 3 or 4 PRC based around dragon slaying.

Of course. I also used to run an african-like paladin who had a lion for mount. Paladin class just badly fits his story. He was sometimes a borderline character, and his past deeds badly synchs with paladin ethos. Anyway we're rewriting his story a bit so maybe it's really the best class we could choose. Even though, some ranger levels wouldn't fit badly.
Thanks Benicio for the link, this looks very much what I was looking for.

Make a Dragonslayer Archetype for whatever class you use.
