Newest Printing of the Core Rules - When?

Product Discussion

Liberty's Edge

My Pathfinder RPG Core Rule book was wounded in action during a recent game (stupid #@*&%$* table!)

I'm thinking about gettinging a new copy of the book, but I want to be SURE it's the newest, latest printing, complete with all the latest errata etc.

So ... Paizo friends ... when will the latest printing be in your warehouse? More importantly, how can I be sure when I order, I am going to get this latest printing?

Thanks!

We're still on the 2nd printing for now. We haven't yet announced a 3rd printing.

Maybe I misunderstood ... I thought I read that a big new errata PDF is coming soon and that this will be tied to the next printing of the Core book.

Is that not correct?

Like I said, I may have completely misunderstood ...

It's been mentioned that when they pull the trigger on the 3rd printing that it will contain the errata that they've compiled to date. However, since they still have more than enough 2nd printing left still, they haven't given a firm date for when this will happen.

Of course, once they do announce they've placed an order for an updated printing, all the 2nd printing inventory becomes sort of obsolete, since it didn't contain any of the errata.

This is just what I've read, and my 2 cents on the last bit.

Not 100% true. We did put some errata into the second printing, basically the stuff that we either found ourselves or that our GenCon GMs found for us when they got their rulebook copies before GenCon last year. So the second printing does contain errata, just not as much as a new printing will have when we pull the trigger on a third printing of the rulebook.

As James said, we have inventory of the second printing, so we haven't pulled the trigger on a third printing yet. When we have, we will announce it here on the boards and at that point, all orders will be of the third printing. Basically, we have to run out of the second printing before we can make a third printing, so there is no overlap.

How does that affect the release of errata for 1st and 2nd printing copies once a 3rd printing has been announced? Will we get a new errata pdf when the announcement of the 3rd printing is made or not til the 3rd printing is in the store?

Thanks Lisa!

Do you have any idea when a third printing might happen? I ask only beacuse, as I mentioned in my original post, my current Core Rule Book (first printing) was wounded in action, so I'd like to replace it. If the third printing will be in the next few months, then I'll just hold off and order a new one then ... if it's more like 6 months to a year away, then I'll probably just go ahead and get a new one now.

Thanks!!!

I don't think they could answer when. Since I think it completely depends on when it sells out. So if you buy one it puts it one book closer but if you don't buy one it is one book further away from a 3rd printing. :)

We can't say when exactly the 3rd printing will hit, because we won't be pulling the reprint lever until we're out of the 2nd printing, and we don't know the exact date THAT will occur. We have a pretty good idea, but sharing ideas like that only confuses things.

As for how it affects the release of the errata... since we won't be releasing the errata (I suspect) until we pull that reprint lever, it affects the errata's release quite significantly. I could be wrong on when we're planning on releasing the errata, but tying it to the point at which we run out of the 2nd printing makes a certain amount of logical sense. But then so does releasing the errata as soon as possible.

In any event, neither event has happened yet, nor has either been given a release date.

I'm one of those who have complained, in a not so friendly fashion, about the lack of a updated errata or Paizo FAQ. I understand the reason they have not been forth coming.

My question is: How can being so transparent about sales of certain products, the Core Rule Book and the Campaign Setting specifically, not hurt sales of your in-stock product. I understand the these boards and the presence of Paizo staff does create great consumer loyalty. We see the posts where folks state something to the effect of "I was going to purchase so-n-so but now that the updated version is on the horizon I'll wait".

Just curious.

I am in the waiting category also. That does not mean they are losing money, since I will still buy the book. It just means they get the money when the book comes out. More than likely I will download the updated pdf, see how much has been fixed, and then buy the hardcover. It is either that or print it out and bind it. That might use an entire print cartridge though, so I would rather buy it from them.

Such is the cost of openness. Fortunately, openness brings many positives to balance out the negatives.

In other words, I need to keep convincing friends to buy the core book (I've done it no less than three times already) so you run out of those, and then buy a copy of the 3rd printing for myself!

I think its an inherent burden of distributing rule systems. Nothing is really 'broken' but everything is :).

I will definitely buy a latest edition of the rules when it is 'the latest' because I know so much care has gone into the publication. I just hope it goes to print with every damn scrap of correction they can find or cram into it.

This is how its always gone at my table.

1. The new version is bought

Other players "You've got the latest, oh, ok...."

Then we hit a question covered by the revision...

Guy with the new edition. "Wait a minute the latest clarifies that...."

Everyone huddles over new edition...

2. New editions show up at the table because people don't want to wait to check the 'current one'.

It's often the completeness of the revisions that resells the books to existing gamers. If they like the book to begin with then they want the right one to continue liking the book.

Personally, I didn't wait for the thrid printinh. I went ahead and grabbed PF (2.0), and passed on my old book to someone who was still on the fence garnering us a new convert to our campaign.

When PF (3.0) comes along, I'll do it again... passing along my older book to someone else from our 3.5 group, hopefully bringing another Paizo/PF fan on board.

As such, since I may not be able to effectively afford my old subscriptions, I can still put my money forward towards helping to convert others who are still "on the fence" about buying into a new system, by passing on my old copies of the Core Book.

Good idea, I'm planning on getting the third pinting and only 3 of 6 in our group have a print edition of PRPG, geetting solid print into their hands should cement the conversion.
