I know people are supposed to just move on, but when I've finally explained or apologized over the phone (in cases where that's merited) I've heard them weep softly with relief and admit gratitude for the effort. <p>How bad could it have been? Epically and originally bad. A few of the people in the know back then thought it would have made for a bestselling book, especially my friends' girlfriends who found my exploits beyond mortal comprehension and grinned at me like a two legged car wreck. Matter of fact, hitmen would probably be called in in such numbers that they'd get in each other's crosshairs and my death would look like a small part of a mass murder."</p>
