So since my husband is still away I need a place to ramble. So my husbands last name is bond, and he gets razzed for it all the time, so one big thing I miss when he's home is when he gets home from work.
He'll step in the door I'll be sitting in the old office chair, with the cat in my lap I turn around and say "good evening Mister Bond" in my cheesiest british accent. I love doing it, but he always gives me the death glare every time I do. I so wish he was home right now.......

Jeremy, an ignorant observation on my behalf -- do neither of you change surnames when married?

Nope we didn't feel the need to, but it seems to be a trend here in Canada for gay married couples to hyphenate the last names.

They were in my nightmares yesterday morning. I had a dream that a gaggle of them were after the survivors of a zombie infested post apocalyptic Earth. I think I woke up before they got their clutches around my skull. Upon waking I had a massive headache.

The Exchange

Mornin. Work now.

Mmmm...work soon :(

I'm really starting to hate that place.

And now, I'm here at the evil bad place that pays me money.

So, should I feel guilty about requesting vacation time so soon after coming back from disability?

I have 5 weeks vacation time to burn. Use or lose it company.

I'm thinking 'not', 'cause recuperating has not exactly been fun and relaxing.

I would not feel guilty about it. That time is yours to burn. At what point will you lose it?
Year end. I'll hold back a couple of weeks for the fall. I can't afford to go anywhere, but time off is always nice. Damn hospital wants 3 grand, so I should be looking for a part-time job. *sigh*

This is the way I see it and you can count on it being correct:

If your company will give you a hard time about using both your sick leave (for a very real illness) AND your vacation leave then they do not respect the fact that you have both.

If you cannot use both (sick leave when sick and vacation as you see fit) then you do not have both. Since you do have both, use what you wish to use of your vacation leave and tell them to piss off if they give you problems.

End Note:
A possible idea when you have so much leave for a year (that you are unable to carry over) is to preschedule it all at the end of the year. Then as the year progresses, you can ask to take leave (partly in advance) as needed and remove it from the scheduled days. If they won't give you the desired changes then you still get to keep the days off you have been allotted. This is an idea if there is an early submission deadline for vacation days such that they are not required to honor submissions afterward such as asking for a week or two off right now would probably be.

Thx for the 2c. Problem is year end is when we'll have all of our projects. Major consolidating going to happen with the large reduction in our workforce. When that's done, vacation time probably won't matter for me and my team. :( Should stretch into January though.

Silver Crusade

Last night, I finally got to meet up with someone who was really a mentor of mine growing up. A talented musician and all-around great guy.

He looked horrible. He's about 70, but looked more like 85. He's on dialysis, and I know that takes a terrible toll. It's just sad to see somebody like that. It sounds like he was having a worse-than-usual day, but still... *sigh*

I'm still glad I got to see him. It had been too long.

Silver Crusade

Anyway, I'll be lying low again today. Keeping internet usage to a minimum...

Ugh. Spent yesterday dealing with a nasty stomach virus. Starting to feel better today though. Enjoying some yummy greek yogurt. Yummy, real food. Such a nice change after gatorade and saltines. :)

Lynora, sorry to hear about your stomach bug. CH, sorry to hear you have to keep your Internet usage down.

I managed to injure myself the first day on the job. I got a drink from the vending machine, and when I bent down to retrieve the drink, I felt a sharp pain on my forehead. Turns out I smacked my head on the plastic holder for the lost money reimbursement envelopes. I managed to break the skin and have the typical bleed from a facial cut. Luckily <eye roll>, my new manager noticed.

Yeah, it's OK now. It stopped bleeding after about 30 minutes.

My forehead is a magnet for cuts. Must be the metal plate. :)

Watch out for the rogue probiotics in there, Lyn. They may infiltrate your immune system. I'm placing bets with Vegas while I type. :p

That's very likely. At least I'm in the office, unlike some contractors who "worked" at my previous job. :)

Seriously -- how have you been? I don't see you around quite as much any more.

Life is catching up to me. I've been putting in more hours at my job, and haven't really had any internet access to speak of. On top of that, I've been having a few health issues, so all in all, there really hasn't been the opportunity to go on the boards...

Go to the nearest shopping mall and walk to the doors. If you can lift your hands and move them w/o touching them, then yes. Now go, young Padawan! Report back to me upon success.

And adhere to Order 68.

According to Dingonalysis, it's a trap.

RPG Superstar 2012

Dingonalysis also refers to a being named Dingnu, so how much of that can you believe?

Woodraven:

Just my two cents, you can take it or leave it:

Medication is a Very Bad Idea. Speaking from experience, trusting a psychiatrist to proscribe medication, especially for anxiety and depression, is like playing Russian Roulette with five bullets. Medicine is what you go to when your last resort doesn't work. I should know. Ten years of mis-proscribed anxiety medication (which I've finally gotten off of) has left me with permanent nerve damage, and is a possible cause of many of the health problems I've been having over the last couple of years.

In my experience, it's much better just to find someone you can talk to, whether it's a therapist, a friend, or a group of people.
