Here is the "2nd print" of an unofficial Pathfinder-compatible edition of Gamma World, the post-apocalyptic RPG originally published in the 1970s by TSR, based on Metamorphosis Alpha by Jim Ward, which was the very 1st sci-fi RPG. Enjoy!

Here it is as a word doc, for those who would like to do a bit of editing for their personal use.

UPDATE: Still trying to nail down an alternative title for the doc so I don't get sued. Narrowed it down to:
Terra Omega (Last Earth)
Terra Ultimus (Final Earth)
Cataclysm
Metacataclysm
[insert your own brilliant suggestion that smacks me on the forehead and says, "why didn't YOU think of this!?" here]
Thoughts?

That is pretty sweet, Xorial. Doing a quick check on Omega Dawn ....

No, but it's similar to LPJ's Obsidian Twilight which is a Ravenloft Dark Sun mashup.

Twilight anything would probably not be good anyway because of the similarity to the Twilight 2000 rpg's.
Or it might also make it sound like a post-apocalypse series about werewolves and vampires. lol

That's what I was aiming for and had a title more in line with it but decided to veer a little so that's what I came up with. Another was going to be "Next Time We Make Love, Not War" but I decided it didn't fit the mood well enough. Though it would be a funny bit for a cartoon found inside the book or something. Kind of a Farside sketch with bombs going off in the background as one says to the other.
Some new title prospects.
Glowing Mutant Playhouse
Plan Omega
Oblivion Action Theater
Society Zero
Radiation Planet
Road Warriors of the Apocalypse
Not Just Another Post-Apocalypse RPG
Wastelands of a Forgotten World
Wastelands of a Fallen Planet
Bright Flash, Smoke and Ash: A Post-Apocalypse RPG
Cinders of a Grand Tomorrow

I'm enjoying the Strangelove / Farside humor injected here. On your latest list, the second to last (Bright Flash...) also caught my eye. It's an interesting new direction instead of the usual title tropes that seem to mimic the others. I think you really got some clever ideas here. It would be interesting to inject some of this into Mike's writings with the right editor....hm.
Mike?

Here's some off the top of my head.
Omega Waning
Last Light
Omega Dawning
Omega Epoch
After the Fall
Eclipse Society
Forever Fallen
Eternal Night
Chaos Eternal
Eternal chaos
Society's Last Breath
Scorched Planet
Post-Thermonuclear Depression Era
Something Happened on the Way to the Bomb
LOL! Awesome list. I like Omega Epoch, which brings to mind another idea: Omega Age?
I also like Scorched Planet.
I love Something Happened on the Way to the Bomb, but it might be a bit wordy ... ;)

Absolutely! Going over the lists again, now that I'm done LOLing ...

I like Plan Omega (actually, they are all awesome, but to pick a few of the more serious titles) ...
Society Zero ...
Radiation Planet (cool and a bit tongue-in-cheek, which works for me) ...
Both of the Wastelands ones, but I think I'd combine them to Wastelands of a Fallen World ...
Bright Flash, Smoke and Ash: A P-A RPG, really has a nice ring to it, and conveys a macabre sense of humor that I feel fits well ...
Great suggestions, DM4hire!
Michael Johnson 66 |
That's what I think would separate yours from the others; the macabre sense of humor. Perhaps that could blend into your sketches ... then again, I don't know what your sketches look like ... yet. :P
My wife is scanning them at her office for me, and I will post them here this evening for your edification! ;)
There is one I like to call "Monkey Wrench" that is kind of funny, depicting a mutated monkey examiner building a monkey-shaped robot, but otherwise they are pretty humorless. I'm definitely not opposed to injecting some humor, though, and will try to come up with some sketches that portray dark humor appropriate to the setting.
What do you think of using "Bright Flash, Smoke and Ash: A Post-Apocalyptic RPG"? Or Wastelands of a Fallen World? Or Omega Age? Those are my faves of DM4hire's lists, and I would use any one of them.

I like a combination of the following:
Bright Flash, Smoke and Ash
or Something Happened on the Way to the Bomb
It would be a fitting tribute to Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick). Throw that with a dystopian Farside theme and art appropos and you might have some gold here. I'd love to know if dm4hire would love to tackle some editing to inject such contents to interlace into your texts.

LOL! Sounds like gold to me! If you are interested, DM4hire, the 2nd post of this thread has a link to the word doc. Feel free to do some editing if you want, and post the results here. This offer stands for anyone who has any ideas for improving the doc.

I guess I'm trying to separate myself from Earth/Terra so it doesn't come across as if you're restricted to those world settings. Shame that Omega Dawn exists elsewhere; that was a good idea (and made me think of that 80's movie Red Dawn).
Kinda why it is on my mind. They are supposedly doing a remake of Red Dawn.
Can try Dark Age II, Darkest Age, Nova Dawn, Omega Humanus, or It Sux to be You: Humans go Home.
Michael Johnson 66 |
My purdy drawings ...
pure strain humans ("Mr. Clean and friends")
scout ("Don't eat the brown paper, but the 'shrooms are okay ...")
More to come when I finish 'em ...
(BTW, my wife has her own names for the pdfs -- I did not, for instance, name the enforcer "gun_stud"! I swear! LOL)

I kinda like Darkest Age and Nova Dawn, too.

Definitely Erol Otus inspired! Out of curiosity, how quick does it take you to draw a single individual and then color them in? I assume you're using colored pencils?
I can produce a single individual and color in probably an hour, depending on complexity. Each of the pics of the genotype trios probably took 3 hrs. to draw and color. The class iconics took about 2 hrs. each due to backgrounds.
Actually, I was using my little girl's crayons, LOL! I found some colored pencils, though, and will be using those instead as they are more accurate.
Urizen |
I was talking to my woman, who's a graphics designer and she mentioned that while you may be spending some money, the best kind of pencils to get would be prisma-colored; whatever that means. What can potentially occur is that the color would scan better through a digital format and someone can take a graphical editing software and translate the colors to a more digitized medium. Does that make sense? If/when she has the time (i.e. not in school), I'll ask her to demonstrate an example for you to see.

I've not heard of prisma-colored pencils, but I think I understand what she means about editing to digitize the colors better. The crayons are a real pain, as they dull, crumble, and otherwise make a mess. I've started coloring an illustration for the Mutations chapter (a winged, clawed mutant beating up 4 knights of genetic purity) with colored pencils, and it already looks alot neater (and is easier -- I'll probably cut down on coloring time quite a bit).
In line with injecting a bit of dark humor, I've started drawing a pic for the Robotics chapter depicting a battle royale in an arena between three robots (one of which is the monkey examiner's monkey-bot all sawed into pieces), with a bunch of gnarley-looking spectators (including poor monkey examiner, who lost alot of domars). I think it's gonna rock, if I do say so myself! :P

Glad you like the titles. I'll take a look at editing, but can't promise anything at the moment as life is a little hectic. However, if you don't mind I'd like to toy around with porting the doc over to Publisher and trying to cut the page count down a tad and give it more of a book layout.
