Council of Thieves

In sixfold trials:

monster ability:
in the asmodeon knot the party fights a mummy. Dc 16 or contract mummy roy when it hits you. Onset 1 minute. Even after a remove curse and cure disease, you ge he everlasting effects UNLESS cured within 1 minute.

So character at 4th level who can not cast either spell needed to cure it has 1 minute to get to, find, and pay for 2 3rd level spells or be gibbled for ever?even if you plan ahead and give the party there level early. The chance that a cleric takes both spells for that day is slim to none, and that would still only allow one person to be cured.

please tell me we are reading this wrong.

Thanks for putting up with my rant on this.

I'll put the answer as a spoiler just in case:

Spoiler:
The onset time is how long it takes for the curse/disease to take effect, not how soon you need to cure it. An afflicted character has to make the save once per day, every day, or suffer the effects of the curse. Which means that character should have at least a couple of days to find the right spells to cure the affliction before he dies.

BTW, curses, diseases, and poisons are all afflictions and pretty much function the same way. The rules are in the Core Rulebook on pages 555-556.

Hope that helps!

Still keeping things in spoiler just in case

Spoiler:

Well that cures that up.... sorta. The Versions of mummy rot in the Bestiary Differ from that in the PFB though. Which copy is "right" ? The Bestiary version is scarier.

I'm not Rob, but paizo's stance is that the Core book trumps supplements and adventures in a conflict except in special cases.

If their different by accident.

Keeping my answer in spoiler as well:

Spoiler:
The Bestiary and the Core Rulebook don't actually differ too much (at least as far as the PRD is concerned where errata is already included). From my reading I garnered that the disease onset is 1 minute, meaning 1 minute after you contract it you take the first damage. However the next set of damage isn't until 1 day later. In the intervening time you wouldn't be able to heal hit point or stat damage without passing the caster level check. From my read, once you completely are cured of the disease (Both remove disease and remove curse within 1 minute of each other), you go back to normal and can heal normally.

However I do see how there are differences between the two books and think that this might need to be fixed to make each say the same thing.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to confirm (was going by the bestiary). I had 4 players that read it and wanted to retire lol. They will be happy now.

The format was going through changes when the books were being written - they should both be the same, i.e., Frequency 1/day.

Scarab Sages

wait, I know you can't heal hit point or stat damage through spells. Does it also affect natural healing through rest and long-term care?

According to the Bestiary; yes.

Scarab Sages

My party might lose Rizzardo:
Since there are only 3 PCs (after losing a 4th player), they chose Rizzardo to tag-along. He got ghoul fever, they slept and then he got mummy rot before he could make the save on the ghoul fever. Two of the PCs are immune to disease (monk & paladin) so I guess this makes up for it. Although, the bard has blinding sickness. The Knot is brutal when it comes to diseases!

Spoiler:
All things considering its not to bad, especially with the doors in the 2nd to last room. My party actually went to Arael and got some healing but they were very careful to only send one person at a time.
Scarab Sages

They are out of the knot - that is where the last game ended. :
I was talking about afterwards. They didn't snoop around the manor, so they never found the cleric's stash of healing. I've said out of game to them that I can't wait for them to open the crux (which has remove curse & remove disease scrolls - or if it doesn't I'll throw one in there), kind of pushing them to open it before Rizzardo dies. Arael has leveled to fourth, but still doesn't have third level spells yet.

The next game is in three weeks, so I'll be waiting a while.
