Arcane Strike usage

Rules Questions

Can Arcane Strike be used on ranged weapons such as bows and crossbows? The question has come up in my game, and I (running the game) said it doesn't, and darn near had a rebellion from the players, since they all thought it would work just fine. So, is arcane strike basically a Magic Weapon spell in a feat, or is there a limit to its use?

As the word "melee" appears nowhere in the feat description, I'd say yes, it applies to ranged weapons as well. However, it's not quite a Magic Weapon spell, because the bonus does not apply to the hit roll, only to damage. You could, of course, rule otherwise if you're the DM, but arbitrarily replacing a book rule your players like with a house rule they don't, just because you don't like the book rule, is not particularly good for the long-term health of a gaming group.

As a swift action, you can imbue your weapons with a fraction of your power. For 1 round, your weapons deal +1 damage and are treated as magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. For every five caster levels you possess, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +5 at 20th level.

I believe this damage bonus stacks with any enhancement bonus the weapon may have already.

There is nothing in the feat to suggest it is for melee weapons only. I would absolutely say it applies to ranged weapons as well.
