Presenting... the Dire Corgi

Suggestions/House Rules/Homebrew

RPG Superstar 2012

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm not sure how terrifying it would be to see a group of halfling paladins charging in on large corgis, but after the first round, I think you'd take them seriously.

>>Check out Hugo Solis/Butterfrog's illustration of the dire corgi<<

These larger versions of the corgi live and work in halfling communities. Halflings typically train dire corgis for combat and as riding dogs, rather than as herding dogs, due to their size and relative ferocity. Elite halfling warriors take these creatures as mounts, and it is not uncommon to find a paladin with a dire corgi as a divine steed.

A dire corgi can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider must succeed on a DC 10 Ride check in order to attack.

That it is.

I'd like to add this creature to the d20pfsrd.com Bestiary. Any issues with that? Alternatively, if you prefer, you could post this creature (and any others you have) yourself by becoming a collaborator.

Let me know either way!

That sounds good to me. Go ahead and post it.

Thanks!

I'm now imagining QEII riding a dire corgi and carrying a lance. Thanks, Mairkurion!

QEII is da bomb. The only royal I loved more than her was her mum.

You need to include mechanics that allow the corgi to swarm.

That picture is great, and so is the Dire Corgi itself. ;) Bravo!

Ok its added to the Bestiary here.

I added a custom pic... I admit it'll have to go though as the pic is not CUP compliant (I edited a CUP image more than simply scaling it) so the pic will have to go.

Alas, I kind of like the pic :)

OMG TOO AWESOME!

Please. I beseech thee.

If you don't do anything for me the rest of my miserable, tortured, banal life, then leave that picture. It effin rocks.
It belongs there.
I think you seriously won teh interwebz with that lolcorgi.

That picture is awesome! Still, not quite as good as Hugo's. :)

It was foreordained. But your post is still just the forerunner of the greatness to come, thanks to Taig.

Okay I almost hurled my soda seeing that pic! AWESOME!

Heh. I too love the picture. However, as the CUP is quite clear, thou shalt not edit a picture. With that said, I'll leave it up for a bit longer then anyone who wants it after that'll have to email me. I want to obey the CUP.

Now I want to both laugh and cry ... IF I made it into the top 32, and IF a round was creating a "monster", I was planning on making a Fey Steed ... being the proud pet of our beloved Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Max.

So much for THAT idea, curse you creative folks!

EDIT: And for those of you who love Corgis and have not seen this site, check it out! Xylia

Kobolds especially like to use dire corgis to terrorize adventurers. Or didn't you know?

HeeHee... That thar is funny...

A Dire Animal without back antlers? For shame! I think a layer of hell may have just* frozen over!

That's a whole different corgi. The dire corgi hasn't learned how to be a good herder, and he's not as cute as a regular corgi.

This would be a fey corgi, or something along those lines. :)

No problem, Taig :) This is just another example of convergent thinking that Clark goes on about each year.

And now, as requested by Mairkurion, the horrific Manticorgi!

Manticorgi CR 3
XP 800

Skills Fly -3, Perception +9, Survival +2 (+6 scent tracking); Racial Modifiers +4 Perception, +4 Survival when tracking by scent
ECOLOGY
Environment any
Organization solitary, pair, or pack (3-8)
Treasure standard
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Spikes (Ex) With a snap of its tail, a manticorgi can fire a volley of 3 spikes as a standard action (each spike requires its own attack roll). This attack has a range of 120 feet with no range increment, and all targets must be within 30 feet of each other. The manticorgi can launch only 12 spikes in any 24-hour period.

A nightmarish mix of a manticore and a corgi, this creature only retains the corgi’s body; the manticore’s head, wings, and spiked tail make up the rest of this abomination. Not known for its stealth, a manticorgi will alternate between roars and barks to warn off any creatures encroaching on its territory, and then it shoots spikes at them if they don’t take the hint.

Manticorgis are drawn to halfling villages, but a community's inhabitants usually drive off the creatures before everyone ends up as food. Only depraved halflings negotiate with one of these creatures and allow it to "protect" them.

ya-ha-ya-ha-ya-ha!

I've wondered where you've been today. A terrible sight to behold, the bane of halflingdom!

LOL

OK, those are Epic awesome Taig! Great job, especially so quickly.

Hmmm, now I wonder what a Shar Pei/Krenshar cross would be like? ;)

Just happened across the listing in the d20PFSRD, which led me here.

Just wanted to say that this thread is FULL OF WIN!

For nowhere else has this one seen more AWESOME come from one mind.

Why hasn't this been bumped in a while?

It's a dire corgi.

Major Necrobump, but don't care.

What are you on to give Corgi's a +8 to Jump? I have two of them. I have seen them attempt to jump on a couch....and miss. But no matter what, they should have a +2 to all CHA checks.

BTW, Corgi's rule. Other dogs drool.

Given how often my sister's half-corgi has jumped up and stabbed me in the face/eye/nose with his snout, and I'm fairly certain it doesn't come from the collie side....

Dotting.

Our corgi has a good vertical leap, but no horizontal leap. So he can jump straight up and look over the countertop but can't jump up onto the couch without a running start.

I think dire corgis need a prehensile tongue. http://corgiaddict.com/post/35129803990

My friends Corgi is in peak physical condition and can has excellent vertical leap and fair horizontal leap.

Both my corgi's are in great health and surprising light for their frames [corgi's tend to pork out], and neither of them can jump at all.

what are you talking about collies are great jumpers,

I've used these forums a lot but I finally joined to thank you for the dire corgi! I'm making a campaign where the party must fight gremlins and I wanted a mount for them that wasn't atypical. I thought about how in mythology fey creatures are often associated with riding corgis. Low and behold someone had created a dire corgi for me! With a little quick adaptation the Mangy Corgi was born!
