I've recently tasked myself with getting the complete John Carter series with a certain cover artist's renderings on the covers. I like having a "complete set" that matches. But there are so many editions of these books, and the series I want is 25 years old and out of print. Most of the used sellers on Amazon and eBay use a stock image and I've already received two books that claimed to be a certain cover and were not. Does anyone have suggestions for online used books that are both affordable and accurate in their book descriptions?

bookfinder.com will get you a lot of used book sellers, including alibris and the like. But for what you want I presume that you would need to be able to email the seller and ask, and hope that they respond and are accurate.

That's what I would try, anyway.

So far alibris has been the worst offender, since they get an order and then have the closest bookseller to you with the ordered item ship it as their distributor. They have a decent return policy, but I'd prefer dealing directly with whomever has the book and can look at it to confirm the edition and quality.

Bookdepository.com and .co.uk so far have been very good, but of course it would behoove you to email them too.

Apparently Carter is being made into a movie.
