I just realized that the Spell Trigger aspect of the Use Magic Device skill specifically states that "this particular use of the skill allows you to use a [spell trigger item] as if you had a particular spell on your class spell list."
What if you are a fighter or rogue with ranks in Use Magic Device? Can you use this application of the skill? You don't have a class spell list with which to apply said "cross-class" spell in the first place.

It does work. You are separating the condition into too parts. Look at it this way. X = the spell appears on your class list. X is required to use spell trigger magic items.
Now the sentance in UMD is:
This particular use of the skill allows you to use a spell trigger item as if X.
It does not say you get to add the spell to your class list for the purpose of using spell trigger items. It says you get to use a spell trigger item as if the spell was on your class list. No class list actually required.
