Hey guys felt like running one other pbp while I have time as my current two are slowing a little bit. Thought I would see if anyone was interested in a Expedition to Ravenloft pbp using PFRPG as the baseline. All core races and some non-core (with dm approval) are in. All PFRPG classes and Tome of secrets class are in as well as playtest classes. The game starts at 6th level. heroic stat roll (2d6+6) rolled in thread and 1st level hp max all other levels rolled in thread both must be approved first.

Hmmm, this sounds like fun, he he. I should warn you i have played through the original 1e Ravenloft, which our dm upgraded to 3.5. I am thinking of playing a wizardly type though.

No, no, no. That's not how you recruit for Ravenloft!
First you say something like; "Hey guys, I'm recruiting for 'Rise of the Rune Lords', yeah, that's the ticket!"
Then, after they've made their characters, you say; "But first, a little side trek to *mumble*. It'll be fun and very safe for everyone!"
Otherwise you tend to get nothing but Clerics and Paladins.

LOL! In Lords defense, I will say, when he describes the village the party first arrives at and says "Baro.." he will be lynched before he says "...via"

No worries about having played the 1e version as the 3e version changed enough about the original module that it makes an almost entirely different experience.
Hello Lord,
I am interested. I'm not familiar with Expedition to Ravenloft. Can you tell me a little about it?
Thanks.
Well the basic of it is that it is the updated 3.5 verision of the original 1e Ravenloft module its, dark and grim and the last run through I had of this module was absolutely amazing as several character nearly went bonkers ic. The module is basically set in whatever campaign you want it to be. its pretty long module the take characters from 6 - 10th and done right is pretty creepy at times. When I ran rl I had kronos quartet music playing in the background while the game was going to add an air of creepiness. its the original horror module updated to 3.5
Humm how much ravenloft is in the adventure?
As to your question Seeker, it is not the ravenloft of 2e or 3e for that matter its not a full blown setting its a module that is set in Barovia assumed in this module to be apart of whatever campaign the characters are playing in. IE this isn't the ravenloft that includes several other lands however it is a very long module that in rl takes a few months at the very least to run. Its creepy and wonderfully awesome. If you are asking will it include horror checks/madness checks and the like yes I will be porting those over from the 3.0 ravenloft setting by swords and sorcery as I always thought this made ravenloft even better :)
No, no, no. That's not how you recruit for Ravenloft!....
Yeah I was thinking about doing that but thought the better of it so :PPPPPP oh and don't you have a group that needs to be looking into a certain Ptolus crime boss :P unless you also want to get in on this mad fun in ravenloft too :)

Hi Eric,
What kind of wizardly type were you thinking? I was thinking along these lines too, but I didn't want to step on your toes, since you posted first :)

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
So guess we're not starting in golarion and being transporting to ravenloft then :(
I thought the 3e books were nicely done, no objection if ya know...we walk though mist or something
I wouldn't mind trying the summoner or alchmist, or maybe something core.

Here we go! Not sure what I want to play yet... Happy to round out the party with whatever we need as long as I have the numbers above to support it. I favor something core as this will be my first time in a while, so if any of you see me missing something, please don't be shy about pointing it out!

OK a sorcerer:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
HP: 5d6 + 18 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 6, 1) + 18 = 32
Hmmm, the sorcerer may be a no go unless I can swap the 17 and 10 out. If that won't work, then I will do a fighter.
HP: 5d10 + 22 ⇒ (10, 6, 8, 10, 8) + 22 = 64

How many players you looking for Lord Thas?
I think we could squeeze one more spot in for you half-porc :)So far the only stats I have are for:
Erik: Sorceror or fighter(btw yours are approved, just let me know what you decide)
Gameender: bard or warlord (btw also approved as above just let me know)
Seeker: Summoner or Alchemist (heh btw you might just think you are being transported to ravenloft as there is "The Mist" part sorta in the beginning of the module muhahahaha, your approved btw)
Hadley: ? class (your approved, let me know what you decide)
Mofiddy: Wizard :) (Approved! as to the placement not sure yet still deciding as I have to come up with a good tie in for the party. I am thinking Ustalav as this is the most Ravenloft like place and the whole air of the place works for the module I have been thinking about having you all be from Last Wall as this would fit with the module really well. Most likely you will be an elite fighting force from Last Wall. In fact unless I have a better tie in lets go with this and everyone will need to come up with how they tie into the group. Might try naming the group too. I will look into the Last Wall info and see if I can dig up a npc or come up with an npc that you will all know somehow that will bring ya all together and post the name of the person later so you can included it in your background.)

Off-topic...
Celestial Half-Porc, I always chuckle when I see a post from you. Great screen name. :)
HAHA, thanks. I try. Actually now that I have had a minute to think about it, I don't think I want to play a monk. I will make a decision tonight though.

knew I forgot something earlier Seeker, yep go with the 6th level gold amount from PFRPG, oh and as with other pbp I have run that dont start at 1st, I will need you to show the pricing of everything you buy and I also reserve the right to veto anything I feel is broken or won't fly in my game. An example of this is permanency spell cast on a character out of game. Not okay with this, pretty much don't like this spell in general as it is a bit munkiny in my opinion. but like I said I will review all purchases and give final approval before the game starts.

Hey Eric, I don't think you have to use the stats in the order you rolled them if that's what you meant. Pretty sure Lord Thas meant for us to be able to arrange to our liking.

yep the half-porc has it right you can arrange the stats in whatever order you want. As to the Aasimar monk idea looks great to me half-porc :) which reminds me for a monk if you are going to do the whole magic item thing I have to look it up but there is a thing from the githyanki incursion dragon/dungeon mag special that has Wrappings of Armor er something like that, and if I remember right they don't count against your monk armor restrictions, will look it up and let you know

After much stressing out, I decided to be a Warlord. I must now make my character as big a ham as possible.
Oh, and guys, feel free to add a +3 bonus to initiative and a +1 morale bonus on saves against fear spells and effects for being close to me, and a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls just for looking at me. Yay!

Well aren't you just swell! 'tis the giving season, and many thanks to you for your giving.
I am considering being a cleric. Here is the thing. I am a bit behind in the rules, I have never played a cleric, and I don't want to be a drag on the party. The good news is with pbp I should have plenty of time to come up to speed, but no doubt I am still going to do things unconventionally (not on purpose) and miss some of the obvious things.
So if I go that route, I will be open to and looking for (and most grateful for) pointers.
How is it that I find myself behind the curve? I haven't played since 2nd edition, or maybe it was 1st ed? I was a DM back in those days, so this is different for me in a number of ways, and I am very much looking forward to the experience!
I suspect being a fighter would be less burdensome in terms of my learning curve and its effect on the party. But I haven't seen that we have a cleric yet, and my guess is we would benefit from one. Happy to do whatever makes sense.
HP for cleric: 5d8 + 8 ⇒ (5, 7, 7, 1, 5) + 8 = 33
HP if fighter: 5d10 + 10 ⇒ (4, 8, 6, 4, 3) + 10 = 35
Or suggest something else! I am all ears, and look very funny because of it.

Hi Hadley,
Our experience sounds very similar. I started playing again a couple of months ago after being away for many years. The last version I played was 2nd edition. I really like what Paizo has done with the game.
I think Cleric is a great choice. There are quite a few domains, so I would suggest looking at the domains, pick one that really interests you and then build your character around a deity that matches those domains.
The rules are a bit different, but people on these boards are very helpful to returning players.

Thanks for the support and reassurance. I am going to go the cleric route if approved -- I rolled some nice HPs for the class, too! Much more to do to round a level 7 character, so I'm glad I have some time this weekend. This is great stuff.
Nice to know I'm not along in coming back to the game. I have some really fond memories. The medium and mechanics are different but it seems the spirit is thriving.
