Is there anyone out there who would be interested in a BECMI version of D&D set in Mystara?

my brain ran slow for a minute!! then i realised what BECMI meant!!
are we talking about a pbp, cos if we are im in

Scarab Sages

BECMI???

I assume you mean a PBP. Will you be using an actual Basic set, Expert set, etc? Or the Rules Cyclopedia?

I ask because the RC has extra rules, and extra spells, that I don't see in the Basic and Expert sets. (Mind you, I never owned the Master set, so for all I know, those extra low-level spells and rules might have been from the Master Set... but I doubt it.)

Regardless of your answer, I'd be interested.

Generally, I would be interested in a PBP. I don´t know if it would work out due to the time difference. I do have time to join from mid-January onwards.
Oh, and fray: Basic/Expert/Companion/Master/Immortal rules - you know, Basic D&D from waaay back in the 80ies.

I'm thinking you all start out as Kobolds in the employ of a Wizard living in the mountains and are sent to drive off some trespassers slaughtering their way through his private dungeon where he breeds monsters for spell ingredients. Roll your abilities (3d6) and starting gold(3d6 * 10cp) in junk from the Equipment list) :) (Then you get christmas holidays - enjoy it while you can) Then we will move over to the PBP forum...

Hmmm...

3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) = 8
3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) = 8
3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16

money3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) = 3cp

Not too bad, not regarding the money...

Ahem...

Would you roll in order? Do you use the modifications from GAZ 10 (Orcs of Thar)?

ST 8, IN 8, WI 12, DX 12, CO 13, CH 16 would it be in order.

Per Orcs of Thar, Kobolds would get -4 ST and +3 DX, so I would be at ST 4 (yay!) and DX 15. 1d4 hp at start, +1 for CO 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Natural AC 7, + DX = AC 6

Equipment: nothing worth mentioning...

Do we get to choose a class?

Oddly Humanoids in becmi D&D have a selection of options based on abilities: Raider (Fighter), Wicca (Wizard), Shaman(cleric). Depending on your int/Wis...Stephan has enough wisdom to be a Shaman...so Break out a giri-giri.

I'm going to parrot Stebehil's question: Do we roll ability scores in order? Or can we assign the numbers as we like?

And to parrot another one of Stebehil's questions: Are these rules based on GAZ10 (which I don't have)? I'm not familiar with the terms "Raider" nor "Wicca." Are those from GAZ10? Is a Wicca anything like a Wokan (from the Rules Compendium)? Does the Raider class have Strength as a prime requisite?

A Raider is the BasiC Humanoid (in this Case-Kobold). CREATING A KOBOLD: 1. Ability SCores - Roll 3d6 for eaCh ability(STR, INT, WIS, DEX, CON, CHA). RACIAL LIMITS[S18, I16, W16, D18, C18, CH18] PENALTIES FOR BEING A KOBOLD (-4 STR, +3 DEX) Your Class is Kobold and you are level zero. HP=1d4. DesCription: Size =3' + 1d4 inChes; Fitness=(1d6) 1=skinny, 2-3=normal, 4-6=fat; Exp Required Level 1=500xp (+1000xp to be trained by your wizard employer as a Wokani, WiCCa - if you have 9+ intelligenCe). "So my young apprentiCe..."; THE SECRET SKILL OF THE KOBOLDS: ESCAPE ARTIST(DEX)

Yes, Wicca is pretty much the same as a Wokani, i.e. a monster spellcaster with wizard spells. Raider was actually also a level title used in GAZ 10 (remember, BECMI used level titles), but it describes what humanoids do, being situated on one of the main traffic routes. I´ve got GAZ 10 right here beside me, so I´ll try to answer questions if Yellowdingo would have that support.

Well, I would go for becoming a Shaman. It is hard, but worth is if my character does not die while trying.

Sorry, but I think I'm going to drop out of this one.

Care to tell us why? Personal or because of what was going on so far (which wasn´t much)?

Well he's probably looking for a Modern version of D&D. Which we can do, even though I don’t have such rule books. The Role of the DM as story teller is one that I can do. If I trust you with your own copies of Players Handbook, DMG, Monster manual, then I can spin you an adventure. You would be trusted to sort through your own rulebooks to ensure that you can handle all aspects of the game (including responsibilities of sorting through the DMG). Effectively you would be typing up eah part of the Adenture with the appropriate out of Character Components and I would write a detailed story Description.

Well, that should not be a big problem. The main pathfinder rules are found here.
Kobolds as player characters are easily made from these rule entries.

I didn't explain my reasons for leaving because I was afraid of hurting your feelings, yellowdingo. I'm still afraid that this message may be a flame. However, I guess I'll have to risk it, because I wouldn't want you to mistake my motives.

I have nothing against BECMI (although I would prefer Pathfinder RPG rules.) However, when I create a character for any RPG, I'm accustomed to getting choices. For this game, you want the players just to roll 3d6 six times - presumably in order. Most likely, the result will have to be a raider. Maybe we'll get a lucky roll for INT or WIS and get one more option. And I won't even know if those options are worth it, because I'm not familiar with the Wicca / Shaman rules of GAZ10. But most likely, I'd have to be a fighter-type. With a -4 penalty to Strength. That doesn't sound like much of a character. What if I roll a 3 for strength? Will I end up with a negative 1?

Without any choices, why do you even need players to generate characters? You could have created them yourself.

Even in BECMI, I'm accustomed to choosing one of seven classes, three of which are really races. In addition - maybe I'm just spoiled - I'm accustomed to the roll-d6-four-times-and-take-the-best-three. More importantly, I'm accustomed to assigning the ability scores as I see fit, making character creation more of a "design-what-you-like" game, not a "slave-of-the-dice" game. I'm even accustomed, after all of that, to getting the option of lowering my STR, INT, or WIS by 2 to raising my Prime Requisite by 1, and continuing to do so until I raise my PR high enough to get a 10% bonus to XP (or even higher than that if I like.)

I'm not saying you have to follow every one of those rules, but I need choices. I need some control. Without choices, why play? Being able to play only one race is, right away, a turn-off for me. An unlucky set of rolls giving me only one class as well is a deal-breaker.

Of course, I could have rolled my ability scores first, and if I got lousy STR, INT, and WIS rolls, dropped out then. But then I would have looked like a sore loser.

It's nothing personal. I hope you have a good game. I'm sure it will be great fun for some players. It's just not for me.
