Sean, I see the game balance reasons behind it, but it doesn't make logical sense to me... a person pulled off balance, unprepared and against his will through a threatened area should be, if anything, more at danger from an attack of opportunity, then one who moves through the area of his own volition, knowing and expecting it to happen, not suddenly immune to them.

If the pulling happens to fast for creatures that might take attacks of opportunity to react to, I can buy that, but then I would like to see something like a note that a creature pulled into a wall or some other solid object would take 1d6 points of non-lethal damage or something.

Maybe I am just becoming to logical minded of late.

This is still a great item regardless.

Wow! The visual alone on this item is fantastic. One of my favorites.

Congratulations and best of luck in future rounds!

Great job making the top 32! I have to agree, this is the best item in the round that I've read so far - it opens up lots of cool and creative things for a user to do, and gives some love to the new pull ability.

There's one little thing I was thinking could be a slight issue with the item. First, it should probably pull creatures or objects up to 20 feet towards the wearer, instead of 20 feet, since it could be used against someone or something that's only 10 feet away. Also, if used on a creature 20 feet away, and it pulls that creature 20 feet towards the wearer, that would leave the target 0 feet away, or in the wearer's square. I believe the intent is to pull the creature into the closest adjacent square.

As for the question about what CMB to use, it seems clear to me that it's the wearer's CMB check. Also, regarding why no attacks of opportunity on the moved creature - I imagine it as because the tongue moves them too fast, suddenly, and unexpectedly for anyone to take their AoO (and the game balance reason already mentioned of course.)

Looking forward to your next round's entry!

I'm trying to decide whther I absolutely love this thing (it's a frog helm!) or whether I feel like it's too silly. I think it works great for some situations (swamp-dwelling races that aren't already frog men), while just seems absurd in others (I mean, could you really see a Tengu wearing one of these? a birdman in a frog helm!?).

I'm pretty sure I do love it, but I'm a pretty absurd individual...

Funnily enough, while playing through the Savage Tide AP, my Kenku character managed (through some happenstance, a few excellent bluff rolls, and prodigious use of the kenku 'mimic' ability) to crown himself King of the Bullywugs. I can definitely see this item working perfectly for that character (even though that is a bit of a corner case).

Birdman in a frog helm indeed!

Just stopping by to say this is one of my favorite items this round! Good luck in the challenges ahead.

This is almost certainly my favorite item of the round, and I would have voted for it if it was a voting round. Very tight design, no wasted words, and you covered almost everything that needed to be covered (I would have liked a little more explanation on the CMB check). The imagery is amusing without being too humorous. Definitely one of the stars of this round.

While I can't say i've personally ever wanted or imagined a tongue attack on any of my characters, this is definitely a fun item that does soemthing nothing else in the game does. Not to my specific tastes, but that doesn't mean it's not great. I do get drawn into it a bit, too, imagining all the non-combat uses it could possibly have.

made me think of bionic commando

I like the idea behind this item.

Luckily... "its magic" goes a long way to explain allot of things. I'd hate to see someone try this in the real world though as they'd quickly snap their own fool neck.
