I put this here because I know where else to put it...
So I was thinking about writing up a submission for the pathfinder society thing and I was umming and arrring about it.

And one thing came up in my head.
With my sever lack of artistic talent I was how do I do a map?
And then I thought ohhh thats fine I would simply arrange my mini tiles and take a snap shot and voila.
But then I began thinking about your whole comment on no easter eggs and I thought is this going to just cause trouble?

So is it?
Is it just going to cause trouble I looked up copyright law for the US regarding maps and the Dungeon Tiles from wizards are under a trade mark and not a copy right but I am still not sure.
Not living in the US and not studying their law all I saw was it was fine so long as it wasn't copyrighted.

But not being native to there I am still not a 100% on the whole thing so I am throwing it out here to see if someone more familar with US law would be able to help.

P.S before someone says just use something else.
Well yes I have thought of that but then I follow the same number of problems, Fat Dragon games I am fairly sure have copyrighted thier maps.
And I do not have the selection of paizo maps that I do with the Dungeon tiles.
P.P.S Also I had all my paizo tiles in one box and my cat thought it was a litter tray :s

Using anyone's artwork, whether that is a dungeon tile, a standalone map, or character artwork, without permission is copyright infringement. The only exception to this would be if the art is in the public domain, which Dungeon Tiles are not. You may be able to find maps that are, though, if you search DeviantArt or cartography communities.

What I'd suggest is to find someone else who can do maps/make the artwork for you. You can take the snapshots you mentioned and send it to them as guidelines for the layout, but then they can duplicate it using their own art, avoiding copyright issues.

To add to the above post.
There are many great cartographers at Cartographers' Guild and they might help you find or make the map(s) you want.

Also it's not too hard to make one's own maps with for example Profantasy's Campaign Cartographer 3 should one lack artistic ability.

If the map is for commercial purposes and includes "predominantly floorplan resolution" maps, you can't use stuff made from Campaign Cartographer without permission from ProFantasy.

I THINK what they mean by "floorplan" resolution is you can't make properly sized battlemaps/dungeon tiles.

Otherwise, you can use and distribute maps made using CC3 as long as you don't distribute the individual symbols you made them with.

See here (scroll down): http://www.profantasy.com/service/license.asp

Please draw your own maps. They don't have to be flawless, they have to be legible.

Also, moved this to the appropriate forum.
