Actually, I was thinking that the Summoner makes for an interesting Shinigami. It'd need some alterations, but it's by far the closest class in the game to the characters in Bleach (the ones that have summons, anyway).

An interesting idea, but the BAB is a bit low for such a martial concept. On the other hand, it does nicely represent Shikai and Bankai techniques.

Heh, what sort of feat would you take to represent the "Tite Kubo factor", I wonder?

Perhaps a feat "Battlefield Eidolon" that provided a boost to the eidolon's BAB?

No, the factor that led to his nickname. I was making a veiled joke.

My playtest Summoner:

Vampire Princess Miyu, with the Eidolon as Larva.

Yeah, it's very true that the new summoner class is HUGE fuel for anime based characters.

Right now I'm playtesting Taichi (Digimon manga) and Zeromaru (his Veedramon that goes through various forms) and it's a blast.

Unfortunately, as awesome and fun as that playtest is, I've found myself craving an attempt at another anime mirror.

I'm looking at copying Alters, from Scryed, but I'm not sure which I want to go with. Ryuho is the primary one I've got in mind, with his purple Alter that eventually becomes battlearmor, but if I can come up with a way to use the Eternity Eight it would be awesome :D

Here's a silly one:

Some friends wanted to have a game with 4 gnome sorcerers (bloodlines Destined, Draconic, Celestial, and Arcane), all men. 2 others will play female halfling Bards.

The Gnomes will all take effigy master PrC's, and create effigies of a Dire Lion, Dragon, Pheonix, and Turtle.

Ready? They ride around inside their effigies, and the effigies can transform by combining into a Titan! The Bards fight each other over the affections of the various gnomes, but perform boosts on special stages/epilettes of the Titan Form.

Take some Advil for the headache.

I truly wish I better understood that one, really, I do.

Although it does suddenly give me the urge to do something similar and make a 'voltron force' NPC group :D

I'm thinking of doing something along the line of Scryed as well. Been awhile since I watched it... but the alter from the main character that uses the tentacles would be pretty cool. Set him up with Reach, Push, and Trip. Perhaps increase the damage from the tentacle attacks by two steps by using Increase Damage evolution and the Improved Natural Attack feat.

That would be Ryuho's alter. It goes through three total stages, that one where it's a huge mass of tentacles, another where it takes on a more humanoid form, and then the last it becomes battle armor around him (matching up with the whole fusion ability summoners get)

Yeah, it's a good choice for the class features as presented, hence why I was leaning that way.

I've had a major thing for Trigun since I first cracked the spine on #1 back in the day. I've been trying to make D&D characters based on most of the characters (mostly Vash and Wolfwood obviously), either substituting appropriate weapons or just allowing equipment from D20 Modern. For the most part I haven't had much luck. Vash being a plant and all that kind of makes it tough to build a character that any sane DM would allow. Anybody have much insight?

There is a template that will let you turn your character into a plant creature in 3.5, I think it was called Greenbound. Not sure where it was found though.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I should clarify on the term "plant." He's more like a human power plant that physically resembles an angel.

Trigun, Volume 1. wrote:

"Plant... the thing that produces water, UV rays, oxygen... depending on how much electricity is fed to one, it can even defy the laws of physics and produce organic systems. It is lost technology's biggest black box. In appearance, they look like messengers of God. If one of them dies, so dies every living thing depending on it."

Most of them are kept in large glass bulbs and used to create resources, but Vash and his brother live mostly as humans.

I tried giving him the Celestial or Half-Celestial templates, but they still left some things to be desired.

There are certain anime characters you simply cannot copy completely without going far into the epic zone or at least giving them wish or miracle to copy their godlike power.

Vash and his brother near the end of the series are one example...

However, if you take a "snapshot" of Vash near the beginning of the series before he begins to "level up" you can copy his ability fairly easily. As Vash near the beginning of the series can be taken as having an extremely high dexterity/dodge bonus... and extreme skill with his revolver. Perhaps even toss in a True Strike effect for those extremely difficult shots.

With the new APG out for awhile now, has anyone had anime inspired character ideas using this new resource?

I'm looking into creating a character that uses energy shields for offense as well as defense. The idea coming from Tenchi Muyo! in the form of the lighthawk wings (as used by Yosho when Kagato attacks for the first time).

I don't want him to be a gish or multiclassed, though. The shielded fighter archetype suits the combat style very well, but I am struggling to find a way to create force-shields at will.

EDIT: Slightly OT, summoners make excellent bases for Magi-Nation characters. I am considering sitting down and building dream creatures based on the eidolon evolution pool and figuring up the strength of the various dream creatures via that method. Some guy named BlackDaggr or something like that had a d20 MND website, but the project was dropped, and I disagreed with a lot of what was on there...[/ramble]

i would love to see Sojiro Seta statted out. how would we do that? heck, why not Izayoi Sakuya? Yoruichi Shihoin? or Yuffie Kisaragi As well?

The APG has energy schools now. Kinda helpful there.

I was trying to develop a home-brew base class that uses force shields. This based off of another anime called Kekkaishi.

It can be found HERE if you are interested.

Yuffie Kisaragi is from final fantasy 7

Sojiro Seta is from Rurouni Kenshin

Izayoi Sakuya is from Touhou

Yoroichi Shihoin is from bleach

I did a few as an exercise, and I am very impressed with the results, though I find that the evolution pool is a bit small for the purposes to which I put it to use. Also, there aren't enough evolutions to stat up EVERYTHING (like quills that can be thrown and granting spell-like abilities) and the DR evo is flat IMO.

Thanks for the link, Lokie. :)

I have a summoner in a game who's based off Dio from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I have a staff with Time stop, just to make it even more awesome.

The only issue I'm having right now, is how to get the steamroller...

Unfortunately... completely unfamiliar with Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Sorry.

Well. Here's a link to the anime. Enjoy.
They have beings called Stands, that aid them in battle, to put it simply.

There, that was easy.

You know, with all due respect, asking for "anime style" characters are a bit broad. A character from Bleach is nothing like a character from the Slayers which is nothing like a character from Read or Die which is nothing like a character from Revolutionary Girl Utena which is nothing like a character from Pokemon which is nothing like a character from Fullmetal Alchemist which is nothing like a character from Macross which is nothing like a character from Noir which is nothing like a character from the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya which is nothing like....

It's like asking for "Hollywood movie style" characters. Do you mean Disney or Peter Jackson or Quentin Tarantino?

What are you really trying to aim for here?

Not trying to sound like a knowit all here, the impersonality of text makes this kind of commentary probably come off poorly, for which I apologize--I just really want to understand what this is about. I saw earlier requests for specifically shonen martial arts style characters and if that's what you want great, but "all anime" is rather a broad concept.

Just be glad I didn't start throwing in hentai titles there...

The best way to distract a succubus or nymph is with Black Tentacles ;)

Hmm... some interesting characters there...

Yuffie I think I'd do as either a Monk, Fighter/Rogue, Fighter/Monk. As for her super huge shuriken... I'd suggest using either a regular sized starknife or large sized starknife with returning. She is mostly just a Ninja-type with maxed out stealth.

Sojiro Seta is interesting as he supposedly moves so fast he vanishes. His main skill is his swordsmanship and Fighter pretty much fits him well. To mimic his faster than sight techniques I'd suggest taking him into Shadowdancer for just Hide in Plain Sight.

Izayoi Sakuya I'm completely unfamiliar with.

Yoroichi Shinhoin Is a fun but difficult character. To my knowledge she has never used a Bankai so that simplifies things a mite. If not for her shapechanging ability I'd call her a high level Monk and be done with it... however because of the shapechanging I'd have to say Monk/Druid. She is a fairly powerful character and is best portrayed as a Monk with abundant step and at least 4 levels of Druid for the Wild Shape into a cat and some spell casting (Kido sp?)

I'm just interested in what people are playing that is anime-inspired. I also offer up my services to help provide creative ideas by fishing through my huge library of 3.x/pathfinder books to give possible solutions on how to make anime-inspired characters.

I'd not at all be shocked by Hentai titles...but it may be against the terms of use for these boards... heh. :D

Thank you SO MUCH for the flashback there to a 2nd edition game I ran.

High School, what can I say.

The player later customized the spell, turning into a higher level spell he called Evard's Chocolate Tentacles.

Have you looked into Exalted by White Wolf? That is exactly the system that accomplishes what you are looking for.

Skip the fluff and all the crunch falls into place for ultra-powerful anime-style characters.

I personally have never checked out exalted. I may do so at some time. Allot of the fun for me is trying to work within the 3.5/Pathfinder rules to come up with a close concept for anime characters.

More fun, is to see something in an anime, and then come up with a creative way to come close to granting a PC's some ability much like that.
