Play-by-Post Discussion

1 to 50 of 96 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

This is the discussion thread for the actual Play-by-Post, so I thought I'd get thus posted up. I don't have much to say in this particular post, so far, because I'm still sorting out the players for this game at this point.

More as the campaign planning develops!

Edit:

So far the following players and characters are in the campaign and ready to go--

Antianel Jastieth

Tippello Tabinero

A faithful wandering priest of Desna, at your service!

My blade stands ready, though for what I cannot say.

GM:

Spoiler:
I've deliberately left some things vague in Antianel's backstory - most notably, which crimelord he works for. I have a couple ideas, but is there any particular way you want to work him in?

Andoran

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

So we have a half-orc monk, a human rogue and a half-elf bard (assuming catman joins us) still coming?

Hmm, I was kind of hoping a wizard would join us as well. Perhaps the bard will make up for it. Otherwise I could try diverging towards mystic theurge later.

Update:

So far the following players and characters are in the campaign and ready to go--

Antianel Jastieth

Tippello Tabinero

Tsadok Duskwalker

Aye, I have arrived!

So long as everything goes alright, it looks like we'll have a half-elf bard and a halfling or gnome sorcerer to go along with those locked in so far.

If possible, I'd like to have concepts approved and characters ready to go by this weekend, so anyone following along let me know if this will be a problem. I'll cross post this in the other thread as well.

Cheliax

Quick question is it only the default traits you are allowing or would I be allowed to take one from another companion book?

Kevin Mack wrote:

Any Pathfinder source is allowed at this point.

Cheliax

Okay just wanted to be sure since I was hoping to take the Gnome trait animal friend from legacy of fire companion.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

All done save appearance and background.

Andoran

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

Just FYI, you're not proficient with that hooked hammer, so your attacks with it aren't going to be all that effective...

Yes, unfortunately, you treat the hammer as a martial weapon, but as a sorcerer, you aren't proficient with martial weapons, so you would be taking a -4 on your attacks.

Cheliax

Ah my bad I thought they treated race weapons as proficient (Shows me for not reading the text properly) I'll switch it out for something else

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

Okay changed the Gnome hook hammer for a sickle and used the extra gold to buy some more miscellaneous gear. Also I took the looking for work campaign trait but it is not 100% accurate its more like looking for money if that's okay? (Idea is character is completly broke except for 1 gold coin which she uses to enter the tournament)

Looks like so far we have a dextrous fighter, a monk, a sorcerer and me as cleric.

Tippy crosses his fingers and hopes for a rogue to join up.

Actually, it looks like Catman is going for a bard, so perhaps no bard at the moment.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

All finished (least I think she is)

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

So uh what's happened with this one?

We'll see how this goes, and run with this group for now, because I don't want to keep putting this off. I'll post in the other thread, but if anyone can get a concept up and make up a character that I'll approve, we'll insert them later.

Antianel Jastieth

Tippello Tabinero

Tsadok Duskwalker

Lyre

Since Tippello has "Fools for Friends" I wanted to see if it was alright for Tipello and Lyre to be friends, with Tipello more or less "adopting" the gnome, with here being a bit over her head in Riddleport.

Tsadok would essentially be wandering in out of curiosity as he researches what is going on regarding the blot, looking for a natural gathering of people without knowing the best place for scholars, per se.

Antianel knows exactly where he is, but he is looking for work and knows his way around Riddleport well enough to know that he's likely to find some interesting leads at the tournament.

That would be fine with me

Lyre wrote:

If its good with Tippello, we'll run with it then and get going. Hopefully we'll have our answer shortly. Thanks.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

Would you like me to rewrite some of the background or does it work fine as is?

Lyre wrote:

If it works out that its okay to be friends with Tipello, the only real change would be that Tipello ran into you shortly after you arrived and has been trying to keep you from getting into trouble when you are out of your element. Nothing you need to note, as we'll know it going forward.

As soon as I hear from Tilquinith about Tippello and Lyre, we'll get going. As you can likely surmise from looking at the campaign traits, we'll be starting the adventure at the Golden Goblin Gambling Hall.

Before we actually start at the Golden Goblin, however, if anyone has anything that they have been researching or asking around about, let me know what it is you have been asking/researching, and let me know what the roll for that research/question is, and I'll let you know what you start the campaign knowing.

GM:

Spoiler:
I asked this before, but it probably got lost in the shuffle. Who would you like Antianel to be in hock to? I came up with three ideas:

1) Saul
If it's Saul Antianel's parents owe, then it's pretty close to the actual wording on his campaign trait: he's Looking for Work inasmuch as he hasn't met Saul yet and he's trying to scope him out in order to find out what kind of guy he's about to tie himself to. In this case, Saul's betrayal winds up being a real relief for him, giving him an excuse to off Saul and deal with the debt with a clear conscience - might be a bit too much in terms of letting Antianel off the hook, though, so I dunno.

2) Clegg Zincher
This makes for some interesting interactions later on, particularly in Children of the Void, but it might make the raid a bit weirder. (Or not - since it isn't Zincher's men who actually undertake the attack...) In this case, Zincher is worried about wanting to keep an eye on Saul, so he orders Antianel to go "undercover" to watch things. It would make Antianel's internal conflict more interesting, but raises the question of if - or when - Clegg might "pull the trigger" on his inside man and force Antianel to do something to really screw Saul, and thus the rest of the PCs, over.

3) one of the other crimelords
The idea here is basically the same as with Clegg, but it's a different crime boss. This would make the most sense if I could use it to tie myself to one of the other characters - if the sorcerer wanted to be a cyphermage, for instance, then I could work for Elias Tammerhawk - but I'm not seeing any such obvious connection. The other thing that might be cool about taking this option, though, would be that it would leave me in debt for awhile; nothing will happen in the first two modules to end my connection, so I would remain tied if you would like me to be.

I'm good with that, I had been kind of wondering who would be a good candidate for who I would be there looking out for.

Still paying attention here, friends.

DM:

Spoiler:
I'm picturing a pious 1/2 orc here. Perhaps I should pay for a small prayer book of some sort? Perhaps one showing his exercises and the spiritual benefits of his rigorous training? Or perhaps a combination of both of these things. Your call (and price) for that matter.

For Shisumo:

Spoiler:
The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that I like Saul, just because it works to bring you into the story, gives you a roleplaying hook early on, but let it end more or less naturally, so that any long term complications develop naturally through the course of the campaign.

Good for you?

For Darkmeer:

Spoiler:
Without fully opening up the source, but using it as a guide, the 3.0 Arms and Equipment Guide has holy texts starting at 10 gp, if you want to go by that.

For Darkmeer:

Spoiler:
You do have added incentive to show up at the Goblin, because while you haven't got the credentials to view the Cyphermage's information on the Blot, you have heard that there is a young mage that has been trying to get into the Cyphermages, a female half-elf named Samaritha Beldusk, that might be willing to help the right person do research, in the hopes that this research will help her with her application to the organization.

The actual pbp thread is up and running. You can find it here:

KEJR's Second Darkness PbP

Everyone can "arrive" when they post to the thread, although I am assuming that our halfling and gnome friends will be arriving at the same time.

Works for me!

Male Human . . . ish . . .

I know that everyone put a lot of work into this, and I was having a really good time with this, but I don't think I can keep up with running this game at this time. My sincere apologies, but between my FLGS groups, work, and family, I'm just not able to keep up with any play by post activity that I had been planning.

I'm very sorry all.

Sad to see this, really.

Male Human

Nooooo!
I love the opening of this campaign!

Andoran

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

It may be slightly insane with the other stuff I've got going on, but I could possibly pick this up and run with it as a replacement GM, if people would like me to. Perhaps if KEJR's schedule frees up, he'd even be able to take back over at some point.

Male Human

If that's possible, I would love to continue.

Male

I'm good with this as well. Use the same thread in the PbP itself? I'm sure KEJR would be happy to see the thread continue :)

Ahh, I was kind of wondering what had happened. I would of course be interested in continuing this pbp.

Cheliax

I would be interested in continuing as well

Andoran

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

Okay, I think that's a quorum for continuing. Let me get some sleep tonight and some notes made tomorrow, but I should have one or more posts up moving things forward by tomorrow night.

Okay, I lied. It won't be tonight - it will be tomorrow. I swear! ;)

Eagerly awaiting the adventure :)

How do you guys feel about me leaving Antianel in the game?

As long as he's played well as an npc then I don't see a problem with it.
