Well, he wants to make it "difficult to make magic items" but I don't think he was intentially trying to make it more difficult for me. But he was trying to make it more difficult for Wizard like casters. He also stated that he feels that using an item for the spell component isn't the same as "knowing the spell". I'd argue that with him, but I'm also trying not to get on his bad side about this.
It might be that he has this idea that difficulty in crafting for non-wizards just adds more fluff
that seems like the kind of thing I would have said five years backOf course not letting you have someone else cast the spells is b&&%###~.

In other news I watched the first episode of the new Journey Quest season, it was kinda funny. I think the assassin guy was a conduit for like a bunch of dudes from far away?
I also hope Wren does end up going rogue and interfering with the plot.

I would be very surprised if it does not top a couple million at least.
Kickstarter projections expects 11 mil, but that's assuming constant growth at the rate of those first couple of days, which never happens on KS. You always get a rush on the first day, maybe a little more in the first week, then it trickles down to barely any growth in the middle, then another big rush in the last few days as the holdouts toss in their contributions at the last second.
I tossed my $25 in already, though I may up it depending on what kind of stretch goal awards get tossed out. It's not like Hussie doesn't already get a lot of my money, with all the albums.
I'm rather amused that someone's actually kicked in the $10k tier. I'd be really surprised if there's more than a couple more though, if that. If all ten sell out I'm gonna be 0_0 for a while.

We're trying to start a group to do eviction and foreclosure blockades. I was going to go canvass all the foreclosed upon homes in Nashua, but the other dude (not chick, unfortunately) got called into work early.
I don't think I can do lunch this week. I'm busy and broke. :(
Vive le Galt!
Seriously man, if you want to keep the Stooges of the Plutocracy from seizing your property, make sure they have a deed for the house before they take possession; you might lose in court, but it'll be a good fight, and set a legal president.

I have heard very good things about it. Ryan North loves it and actually writes the comic books for it.
Maybe I'll see if the library has any episodes? Or if they're online somewhere that is not pirating.
stuff about kickstarter
Yeah, it's not going to make it to $11m (or probably even $2.5m). It's had crazy growth in the first few days but only because people are kind of really obsessed with it.
Hussie doesn't actually get any money from the albums. That all goes to the musicians. It's his way of paying them for making the songs and stuff. Most of the ad money goes to servering for s!~@loads of data. He's not poor, but he's not rolling in dough either (except now that he has above mentioned Ryan's credit card). He hasn't even said if he's going to take any money off of the game project for living expenses.
I've seen theories that all $10k tiers are gonna be taken. I . . . don't really disagree with them theories. People are pretty impressed.

Yeah, the stories going around about banker incompetence are nauseating. I'm sure you saw the clip on The Daily Show about the couple who were foreclosed upon by Bank of America and the bank didn't even own their property! And on it goes and on and on...
Anyway, Minneapolis is ground zero for the Occupy Homes thing. They've been pretty successful in getting the banks to back off and, sometimes, refinance to reflect what the property is really worth.

Yeah. The card deck looks pretty cool but the amount that I've spent is already way too much to spend on games.
I'm really hoping that they use some music team members for the soundtrack, because that's one of my favourite things about Homestuck. Along with some other favourite things.
If I spend any more money on kickstarter stuff it should probably go to the D&D Documentary thing.

Wassup, wassup, my FAWTL Refugee peeps?
I've been having so much fun politrolling, I haven't had time to pop in here.
We had a very satisfying D&D-playing game this past weekend.
So, my Carrion Crown game was on hiatus so that people could go get married and other lame shiznit, when the Black Goblin proposed that he run a game. We all readily agreed, and immediately started plotting how to f+~$ with him.
He's running The Godsmouth Heresy, but set in our old campaign setting, the Scarred Lands.
Party:
Deirdre--human ranger who may or may not be a cannibal;
Prudence Purloin--human fighter, member of the evil merchant family House Asuras, speaks with a bad Brooklyn accent;
Ofay--dwarf fighter; this character was randomly generated (rolled stats in order, rolled for race, rolled for class), more on his name in a second;
Freya--human oracle of Hedrada; doesn't really f~*~ with the DM so much;
and, finally,
Pavol Axelrod--Charduni necromancer with a goat familiar.
Charduni, for those not hip to the Scarn lingo, are an evil race of black dwarves dedicated to Chardun, the Slaver God. So, I get to walk around being really obnoxious to everyone ("Hello, slaves!") and I decided that I was racist against white dwarves ("Ofay" is not really the other dwarf's name). Also, many goat-f&@+ing jokes, which I don't understand 'cos she's just my familiar!
Anyway, it was fun. We argued about every rule, we laughed at the DM's descriptions and found holes in his narration, we were rude to his NPCs, and we even murdered a dark creeper who was trying to surrender. Hee hee!

Yeah they're all a heavy pain to read with their quirks, minus Aranea and Meenah and maybe Porrim. I'm calling Mituna the worst. I think he has more numbers subbed in than he uses actual letters, and between misspellings and things I think are badly-censored vulgarities it's like being bludgeoned over the head by a 14-year-old's blog. All caps, horrible spelling, wretched rampant chatspeak, and God knows what else.
Kankri's a pain mostly because of the bright red text, the overly flowery language, the rampant whiteknighting, and oh Jesus that quirk. I know it's as simple as b=6, o=9, but it still aches my brain.
Gark the Goblin |
ahahaha Kankri is hilarious though
I mean if you've ever run into people who talk like him or even just heard of them
yeah
Mituna is pretty cool even if he's pretty hard to read. The outbursts of insults are supposedly manifestations of his insanity. And he's herooooic.
I really hope Terezi's just doing a brooding Seer thing.

Kankri + Meulin = tumblr
This is not a compliment.
Plus Meenah, Aranea, Cronus, Porrim. Mituna (maybe??), Latula (okay maybe not really), and a good dose of Kurloz.
Meenah is the "witty" person who regularly disses people and says that tumblr sucks but still uses it
Aranea is the person who composes long boring theories
Cronus is the whiny friend-zone lamenter/creepy stalker
Porrim is the feminist with other interests
Mituna is, apparently, the fourteen-year-old's blog
Latula is everyone who is totally radical and from Portland
Kurloz is all the gore and horror (and porn?)

It's pretty cool; pretty motivating arcs and plot. Great cinematics, good characterisation.
But as big a fan as you? Probably NOT.
Concerning memes/ogms/etc: The thing is kind of a careful parody of "stupidity" that simultaneously partakes of that stupidity, and those who are parodying unwittingly become the parodied. The thing that looks dumb to an outsider is this facade of silliness that is rarely broken; a sort of inside joke to those in the know. The dude who commits the randomness is saying "haha look how random this is" in a vain attempt to get notes, but also "look at you, laughing at this." You can sincerely enjoy the laughs, but many people also inwardly laugh at the absurdity of laughing at something so laughably unlaughable. The humor of something that is apparently nonhumorous, or even apparently Butthead-tier humour, is a subtle and nebulous thing. If you examine it too closely, it either disappears or multiplies like rabbits. Even those without ostensible humour* - the people who keymash and chant about feels - are self-parodying. They just allow their instincts - more like forced emotion-gratifying habits - a little rein. But they're not valley girls, and raving about feels is not their only purpose on the internet.
DOUBLETHINK: It's already here.
DISCLAIMER: Tumblr is kind of necessarily self-contradicting because it is pretty big, so my incoherent analysis may not apply to everyone.
*though those who do that stuff are actually still pretty funny, and I suspect that many of them are trying to be so
Also I completely forgot the porn thing because I really don't see that on my dash. So.

So funny story. This women's studies class I'm taking spent an hour going over the seven-page syllabus, and they explained why they don't want people using internet in class. "You know how in big lectures there are always those kids with laptops, and instead of taking notes they're checking their facebook, and you're looking over their shoulder and checking out what they're checking on facebook instead of paying attention to the lecture?" Then she said something along the lines of "No Facebook, no Twitter, no Spotify," and a bunch of other social media websites. I'm not sure if Spotify is a social media website; I don't care.
Anyway, she never once mentioned tumblr!
Gark the Goblin |
Well tumblr is pretty obscure out of certain circles. Namely, "young people who grew up on the internet" circles. The funny thing about that Amusing Anecdote is primarily that tumblr is quite feminist, and the implication that the teacher (a young feminist) either doesn't know about tumblr or is unwilling to discourage its use is "hilarious."
