Shadowbeasts (spoilers)

Not sure if it is a spoiler or not, but thought it best to be cautious.

What "shadowbeasts" are you using or planning on using?

Anything from the Plane of Shadows, really...

Spoiler:
The majority of the "shadow beasts" that plague the streets of Westcrown after dark are either shadow mastiffs or undead shadows. Creatures that manipulate shadows work well too, such as cloakers. We'll also be throwing in some new monsters as well; the shadowgarm in Pathfinder #25 for one, and a few others later on. The shadows don't really start to be an on-stage menace until Pathfinder #27, and they really come into their own in Pathfinder #29... these two installments being the ones that deal most closely with the shadow beast subplot.

I'm using

Spoiler:

the Shadow Choker from the Lords of Madness. It's just the standard choker with the Shadow Template applied. I think it is particularly appropriate for the disappearances on the streets of Westcrown. It's victims never make a sound.

I'm also using the Shadow Mastiff, as mentioned and a version of the Shadow Garm (I don't like the way it looks, so I changed its description.)

I'm trying to create several other shadow creatures.

*****spoiler not PC friendly****

I'm going to be running the CoT down the road and started reading the bastards of erebus book. I have a question about it.

Spoiler:

There is a sidequest where the PC's can deposit the corpse of a "shadow beast" suggesting the use of a shadowgarm and be paid for their work. The description of the shadowgarm says that it disappears into mist when it dies. Should we just use shadowgarm stats and call it a "shadow beast" that doesn't disappear? Is that just an oversight or am I missing something?

Spoiler:
When my players whacked their Shadowgarm, I didn't want to deny them the benefit of success. Aberration, right? Okay, my Shadowgarm lost all internal structure and became a Shadowgarm-shaped mass of stuff. When the PCs tried to lift it into a borrowed cart, I described it as pretty much the same as trying to lift a large dog-sized lump of uncooked bread-dough. It just sort of oozes and stretches over your out-stretched arms without actually breaking open. My Shadowgarms are gross.

And to the person who recommended Lords of Madness... thanks! I hadn't thought about that dust-gathering object. This will be helpful.

Thanks, that is a good idea. I think I'll use that.
