Drow

Homebrew and House Rules

First I will state that I am aware LA's and ECL's are supposed to be a thing of the past, or at least that is the way I took it, but I will be ignoring that.

My other issue is that Drow were never worth a +2, but they might have been to good for a +1 so I will post some changes to see what you guys might think the LA should be

Ability score bonuses: Stay the same

SR: I dont think anyone paid attention to this, but SR blocks all spells not cast by the creature itself and it took a standard action to bring down.

My change: I will say SR is ignored if the Drow thinks the spell is in its favor. If the drow is unconscious it is always on since he would have to be conscious to turn it off

Darkness: The SLA affects the caster, and his allies also which really did not help a lot if you were a melee oriented drow

My change: It is now known as Drow Darkness since it works differently than the way the actual Darkness spell does. The Drow can choose a number of creatures equal to its cha mod +1, and it causes a 50% miss chance. It is negated, but not dispelled by a light spell of 3rd level or higher.

Anything else not mentioned will stay the same.

I suggest you wait until the race is actually published before you start houseruling it.

Beyond that I like Paizo's solution they suggest in the Council of Thieves players guide (free download FWIW). They have several suggestions but my favorite is if you allow a tiefling character you should grant the rest of the characters a small boon in the form of either a bonus to a stat (one that doesn't have a racial bonus already) a bonus trait or even a bump in starting gold.

Seeing as the drow are even more powerful than teiflings I would suggest an appropriately nicer boon.

That sounds like 4E's way of trying to make a monster class and the PC playing the same race different somehow. I never really agreed with it. If Paizo's drow are no better than regular elves I will go with that, but pretending you are the monster would not go over well in my group.

I do understand the reason for your post, and the book is only about a month away so I guess this can be put on hold for now.
