Cheliax Companion question: twine double?

Rules Questions

uh, what is it good for?

The spell takes 10 minutes to cast, and lasts for 1 min/level.

You can't use it to pretend to be you while you're off adventuring, because it doesn't last long enough. You can't use it to foil hot pursuit, because it takes 10 minutes to cast.

I mean, I had such hopes for this spell. I wanted to whack someone (say, an obnoxious bureaucrat), cast disguise self to look like them, and then impersonate them with twine double. Is the duration supposed to be 1 day/level or something?

10 minutes casting time really settles that this is in no way a combat spell.

1 minute/level is however adequate for short term deception. A spell with a 1 day/level would be a high level spell.

I think the spell works fine - you just have to be quicker and more creative.

Yeah, okay, I guess. It's good for, say, walking into traps, but I think that's really its only saving grace over a good disguise. Plus it's something I just couldn't see taking as a sorcerer over a more traditional illusion.

Now I'm thinking about a PrC called Twine Master that specializes in making dupes, replacing other people with clever forgeries (or just fabricating new people), tele-operation, and casting through twine doubles. If it was a 10-level one you could even put some crazy spy moves in there (making sleeper cells of dupes, turning yourself into a dupe, making invisible dupes, using dupes as minions, etc)
