And by "slipped away", my Lord Nethys means that those abilities never had a save to begin with. Most of the touch/ray bloodline, domain, and school abilities have no saving throw. Primarily because they are limited in duration, or HD affected, and by requiring a standard action to touch. While strong, they are rarely unstoppable.
See Charm domain/Enchantment school for one of the strongest of these options.

Well, true that those powers already have many drawbacks (like having to go melee), but non giving a save that by logic would be needed is really 4ish. An arbitrary (and abstract) rule, I mean.
It would have been better to make them, say, 30 feet range and with save.
Spells like Ray of Enfeeblement had no save in 3.5 either.

A few rays did have saves, but not many. In general, ray and touch spells in 3.5e did not have a saving throw.
