Sorcerer elemental blast

Rules Questions

Just a question:

1- Elemental blast(sorcerer elemental bloodline) is a spell like ability, then it provokes an AoO.

2- Spell like abilities can be cast defensively.

3- Concentration check DC to cast defensively = 15 + double the spell's level

What's the equivalent spell level por an elemental blast? Half the sorcerer level?

I'd say factor it at level 1, or even just the stright DC. Its not overly powerful, especially later on. But I don't see anything in the RAW starting what level it should be considered at, so thats just my 2 cents as what I'd do as a DM, without some kind of official ruling.

Unless otherwise stated, a spell-like or supernatural ability is pretty much always considered equivalent to a spell of 1/2 the caster's level (class for this, hit dice for creature abilities). Minimum 1, of course.

Can you cite this rule? I'm curious because it seems to open a can of worms when dealing with defensive casting; the DC to do so would always be 15 + Caster Level (ie, the SLA becomes harder to cast as the sorcerer levels up...).

The central rules for Spell-like Abilities appear on p. 221:

Usually, a spell-like ability works just like the spell of that name...

I believe that in 3E spell-like abilities were always references to existing spell effects from the system spell list; here we have SLAs that are new effects in and of themselves...

Treat Elemental Ray, along with other sorcerer spell-like abilities gained at level 1, as a 1st level spell for the purposes of Concentration DCs.

And Elemental Blast(Gained at 9th level)? Should i treat like a 4th level spell?

I would recommend treating it as such, yes.

That does create an interesting discrepancy; the elemental blast would be 4th level for purposes of Concentration and caster level checks, but would slide upwards from 4th to 10th level for purposes of Reflex Save DC.

Whoops... right, what I said applies to supernaturals but not spell-likes. My turn to be wrong. Go with Nethys. :)
