Heavy horses and the advanced simple template

Rules Questions

In the Bestiary preview, it says heavy horses gain the advanced simple template. The advanced simple template says if you want to rebuild the creature, you should add +4 to all its abilities.

Is that a typo? Or is a heavy horse really that much more intelligent, wise and charismatic than a light horse? Am I reading this wrong?

Does no one know? Or is this just a stupid question?

It's an excellent question, and no one knows (except for the folks at Paizo, of course). :-)

I would say keep the Intelligence at a maximum of 2, as this is the maximum for animals.

I don't know if that's the case any more; in the PFRPG rules a paladin's mount, for instance, is an animal with more than 2 Int (at least until level 11 when it becomes a magical beast via the Celestial template).

druid and pally animals break the 2 int rule.

I'd also say cap int at 2.

I was thinking maybe to leave all the "mental" abilities as they were; I was just curious as to whether it had already been taken into account and decided against for some reason.

Incorrect. This rule was removed in Pathfinder. Animal Companions aren't an exception to this rule; there no longer is such a rule.

Scarab Sages

To be fair, we have no idea whether this rule is still in or not. The Bestiary, where the statistics on all Animals would likely be located, is not out.

I noticed that all of the animals in the Preview Bestiary have a 1 or 2 intelligence. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a cap on animal intelligence that animal companions aren't subject to.

Even if it was clarified that animal int shall be capped to 2, and that the advanced simple template for horses meant physical stats only - making a heavy horse more dextrous than a light horse still doesn't make any sense. I very much hope for some errata there.

Um... no they didn't it is right there plain as day on page 307 of the Bestiary
