Question: Mobile Spell Casting Feat

Can some answer how this feat would work in this system? It states that a caster can make a special concentration check to cast a spell and move as a standard action dc 20+spell level. Also at the end it states that a caster can do this on the defensive with a concentration check of dc 25+ spell level. Just need some help or suggestions on how to incorperate this feat.

Just curious, but could you tell us what source this feat is from. I don't recognize it off the top of my head.

mmm this is a gut response, so may not be the best.

Since there is no Concentration skill anymore I would go by the new rules for Concentrating on a spell. Vigorous Motion while casting a spell is DC 10 + Spell Level, and Violent Motion is DC 15 + Spell Level. These are not for actual movement but say on a boat or a horse.

So, I think, based upon that feat, I would add 10 to the DC for actual movement. Vigorous Movement being walking or jogging at DC 20 + Spell Level, while Violent Movement such as Combat or running would be DC 25 + Spell Level.

Regardless to make a Concentration check you make a level check modified by your key spell casting ability. So a Wizard would use d20 + Level + Int Modifier.

Just a quick suggestion that sems to keep the flavor of the feat.


The feat is in the complete adventurer source book...just wondering how to apply it in this system.


This post makes me wish something was done to make the Full Round/Standard Action dichotomy relevant for Casters. With Feats like this of course available to moderate the restriction on Moving + Casting.

After looking at the feat in question, and reading Krome's post, I'd say it can be used as is really. Concentration as a skill is no longer there, but there is still the concentration check for spellcasting interruptions, and the two DC's of 20 + spell level, and 25 + spell level seem ok. Althought he second one for casting defensively should be changed to 25 + double spell level.

Would have to see it done in playtesting to see if it's balanced or not. It could be they should be lowered a bit, but probably not raised any higher.
