On-Line Reviews of Pathfinder Core Rules

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm always interested in what my fellow human beings are thinking. Have you found any on-line reviews of our favorite game system?

The Exchange

Nice pronunciation of rogues. :)

Sovereign Court

I liked the review but ouch there are a lot of 4th edition fans in the comments. Bleh.

Always knew those types were the kind to mess around and start trouble though.

Is he pronouncing Paizo right?

Pay-zee-oh? Where the hell did that guy learn to pronounce Greek? Pie-Zoh. There's a reason the golem looks like the Greek letter Pi.

Well it's not like he really reviewed the book, just praised its release. I put him about on the same level as the 4E guys, just to opposite side of the tracks.

Except he's approaching it as a former d20 player. He stopped due to the overall complexity of the system, but talks about how the art in the Pathfinder core kind of evokes old memories that make him think about picking d20 back up. He's not just a diehard 3.5 fan hating 4e out of pure reflex.

What does his playing status have anything to do with his review? He didn't say much beyond "It is good because I like it." as far as I can tell. Which is not much different than some 4E fans I've read.

Yep as bad as the 4E fan boys are posting on the you tube page, at least they are not pretending to be reviewing it! Not a review just the praise of a fan. His digs at 4E just invite edition wars back. If you don't like 4E fine (I do and I like 3E and MERP and Ars Magica and.... you get the picture) just don't add childish snipes at it in a review.

A bunch of tripe that degrades what (I hope, I haven't got my book yet) is an awesome system.

It is just his style. All of his reviews are like that. First run impressions not in depth mechanics. He does not like to do bad reviews, does not normally say anything negative. The 4e review came about as he keep getting a ton of email wanting it. So there ya go

I'll be putting up a review when I get my hands on it next week, until then I did already do a review of the beta.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish with a review.

Me - I'm trying to give as good an impression as I can of what you'll find in that product and how it might contribute to your gaming experience if you purchase it.

I may put in the odd personal aside, but rarely as it's unlikely to tell you anything about the product... you don't read my reviews to find out about ME, you read 'em (if you do) because you want to know about the product, particularly if you are considering a purchase.
