Is that a Numerian Laser Gun In Your

General Discussion (Prerelease)

*ahem*

We're all familiar that Numeria is plainly a homage to the ETTBP module (I know I have that module somewhere packed away in my basement so I need to spend a weekend digging through all my old stuff and revisit it).

Has anyone cobbled their own adventures in Numeria where the PCs happen to come across some 'advanced' weapon and tried to use it? At first, they'd obviously have a penalty for trying to figure out how to use and attack with the device. I'm trying to figure what type of non-proficiency penalties to impose and what skill they should use (UMD?) to attempt to use it.

I could always come up with some sort of proficieny feat later to remove the penalities, but for the sake of not throwing the campaign setting out of whack, I'd imagine coming across a device would hold so many charges and then become inert.

I haven't had a chance to page through resources such as Chaositech, Dragonstar, or Star Wars D20 for equivalents yet, but I plan to do so. I'm just looking for some brainstorming ideas or insight from others that may have tackled this with a workable concept.

Thanks!
