Giant Lair

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

My PCs are going after an Eldritch Giant that commands a gang of Stone Giants. This just kind of came up on short notice. I was just wondering if anyone could point me towards a particular issue of Dungeon with a dungeon that would fit for this purpose.

I don't have time to write much up, I could improvise it, but I would rather have some published material for at least a map and some interesting ideas.

any suggestions?

Dungeon #118, "Shadow of the Abyss", takes place in a fortification in Sterich (Greyhawk) taken over by giants, w/ a dragon to boot as an ally.

I haven't looked through it, but I imagine "Kings of the Rift" from Dungeon #133 includes a giant stronghold as well (part of the Age of Worms AP).

Those come to mind, and I'm sure someone like Rezdave could point out more.

Try any of the following:

Spoiler:

038 - Things that Go Bump in the Night - Sylvan elves fear the recent haunting of hobgoblin ruins, but cannot investigate the taboo location. Really, the sounds are a firbolg demolition crew, but the giants have a request before they’ll stop work ... remove a powerful “witch” from their old home. But is this “dark witch” really evil, or just misunderstood.

039 - Fire Giant's Daughter, The - A young fire-giant Priestess needs the hold of adventurer-champions to escape the hold of magic and tradition that her conservative sorcerer/father holds over her. Defeat the male giants of the clan in a series of contests and win the freedom of the giantess.

070 - Boulder Dash - Hill Giants have an ambush prepared at a ravine bridge.

085 - Flesh to Stone - A gnome “statue” stands (well, runs away) before the entrance to a mine. Follow the mine to a hidden vale and sort out the problems involving a Stone Giant couple, their free-range “evil chickens” and their recently acquired “statuary” in the form of “gnomish poachers”.

088 - Make it Big - A band of hill giants threaten to crush a halfling village unless the heroes agree to a brief period of indentured servitude (to make the giants “nice things”). Only, the giants are so impressed with the quality of the heroes products, they decide to “extend” the contract.

I think I'm starting to get a bit of a reputation, here ...

I made a Giant's Lair map of mystery, but I honestly couldn't tell you, now, which issue featured it.

Stone Giant Cavern by Christopher West in Issue #108 - Large main cavern in a mountainside with several side rooms lies off of an open porch across a chasm from a plateau in surface lands. Underground river feeds a waterfall into the chasm, which is crossed by a rope and plank bridge. Map could easily rescale for any size inhabitants.

Sorry I missed this one, Chris,

Rez

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed!

Mr. West, I love your maps!

Thanks! :)

Interestingly enough, I just printed out this map (along with pretty much every other Map of Mystery I ever made) to take with me to the Gen Con art show.

*Weeps cold tears* I SOOOOOOOO wish I could be at Gencon now. It would be sooo cool to get the PFRPG there, but add getting a Map from Chris West himself... maybe even autographed! DANG! BAD timing!

Don't feel too bad; I printed my Maps of Mystery to display, but couldn't actually sell them. All I had available to sell was sci-fi stuff.
