Random gross Lamashtan feat

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Dark Archive

A random idea that occured to me, and may, depending on how the Animal Domain has changed between Beta and release, already be obsolete!

Mother of Monsters

Prerequisites Must have access to the Animal Domain, must have Lamashtu as a divine patron.

Benefit
A Mother of Monsters may choose to enhance her ability to extend a single Summon Monster spell (from the Animal Domain granted power) by enduring an 8 hour ritual in which she physically gives birth to the creature to be summoned. During the first seven hours, she must consume seven days worth of food and water, and is treated as Sickened. Over the course of the eight hour, during which time she is treated as nauseated, she delivers the monster, suffering 2 pts. of Constitution damage, and becoming Exhausted.

The 'newborn' monster appears as a Tiny version of it's adult form, and grows over the next 15 minutes to it's full size. Any creature from the Summon Monster list can be birthed in this manner, so long as it is either a demon, or a creature (animal, vermin, etc.) with the fiendish template, and in the case of a fiendish creature, it will always be Chaotic Evil, regardless of what alignment is listed in the Summon Monster list.

Unlike a traditionally summoned monster, the creature shares the benefits of an arcane bond with the summoning Cleric (or Druid), being treated as a Familiar in many respects (and using the Mother's levels in whatever divine spellcasting class allowed her to qualify for this feat in place of Wizard levels to determine the benefits). The fiend gains any Intelligence score (unless it already has a higher intelligence) due to a Familiar at that level, the Natural Armor bonus and abilities such as Empathy, Share Spells, Evasion, Speak with creatures of it's own kind and Speak with master. It retains it's own hit dice, hit points, saving throws and skills, unlike a true Familiar.

Additionally, the effect lasts until the creature is dismissed or destroyed, up to a maximum of one month.

Due to the intense nature of the bond between the 'Mother' and the fiend, if it is slain, she immediately suffers 2 pts of Constitution damage and is exhausted. If the Lamashtan priest is slain, the fiend loses any familiar benefits it had aquired, but is otherwise unharmed, and does *not* have to return to its native plane at the end of it's original month of service...

A Cleric (or Druid) with this feat (and the Animal Domain) can only have one such fiend in existence at a time, and cannot use the Animal Domain granted power to summon another long-term companion while the fiend is in existence.

Normal A Cleric (or Druid) with the Animal Domain can only extend the effects of a single Summon Monster spell for 24 hours.

Special This feat may be taken by a male worshipper of Lamashtu, but he will have to use some form of shapechanging magic that allows him to assume a female form for at least 8 hours to make use of it.

That is just twisted - and perfect flavor for a Lamashtan priestess! Evil ideas are brewing for my RotRL party now. Hmmm.... >)

This sounds awesome Set.

Be sure to submit it to the Pathfinder Database when it goes live!

Its beautiful. Though I wonder if there should be a power cap, for balance issues. The summoned monsters get less powerful higher up, so it would ideally scale. Say a 6th level cleric could only do it with Summon Monster II, while at 15th level she can use her most Summon Monster VIII.

It's based off of the Animal Domain summon power (which may not even exist in release, it's a Beta thing), but since I didn't have a copy of the Beta here at work, I couldn't directly quote it. I think it caps out around Summon Monster IV or V, so it won't reach Summon Monster VIII in any event...

(And the Animal Domain power might even use the Summon Nature's Ally charts, for all I can remember, although this feat would in any event allow any priest of Lamashtu, Cleric or Druid (or even an Adept who substituted a single Domain for the Familiar ability) to use the Summon Monster's Ally chart for fiend-summoning, since it's kind of the point of the ability, to 'birth' fiends to serve as temporary allies.)

Oh, man, that's good.

You should've held this one in reserve for the Wayfinder #2, though, complete with a short story. However, if everyone respects that this one is YOURS, you probably still could...just update/expand on it after the RPG release.

This feat is TOTALLY Wayfinder worthy....think of the art order that would go in for it!!

I'm just.... Wow.
That's terrific! I can only imagine the looks on my group's collective faces!

Yeah, that's good Set.

I'd submit an expanded version to Wayfinder #2 (if I were you).

You should change the Prerequisites to specify you must be female(or capable of asexual reproduction). Otherwise we could have several very disturbing characters that would probably die when the try to use this feat. But since this is a fantasy role-playing game were almost anything is possible.... no, still disturbing.

A great idea. You really should submit it.

Liberty's Edge

quite quite interesting indeed

So how does one do that anyway? I've been putting feats, races, etc. up on these boards for over a year, and never heard of Wayfinder until PaizoCon. :)

And I am only hearing of it right now! Could someone please explain it to this poor ole' soul?

Also Set, that feat rocks. Good job!

If it makes me feel dirty just reading it, then I know it's good for a lasmashtan. =)

Oh God the Berserk flashbacks!!

Good work, by the waOH GOD I'M STILL HAVING FLASHBACKS!

You didn't hear about Wayfinder, the fanzine produced by fans for fans for the 2nd PaizoCon in June?

Lilith started her call for articles back in March, with a deadline of April 15th.

There are calls for Wayfinder #2 already, but the word is "not until AFTER GenCon".

My advice is to work on your concepts, and when the call goes out for submittals, pick the one you REALLY like, put a shiny polish on it, and send it to Lilith.

We totally need some Winter Witch style feats for Irrisen ice mages. While Frostburn has a lot of cool stuff (pun intended), it's not OGL, which means, joy of joys, I get to make stuff up!

Since the idea of Domain Wizards *is* OGL, I could see a Wizard from Irrisen being able to take that Domain Wizard option as a feat choice (Cold Domain only, obviously), and Baba Yaga's kids getting it as a bonus feat (along with their half-fey heritage or whatever).

Some sort of arctic themed Sorcerer Bloodline also seems like a natural, and it could even be made more strongly Golarion-specific by including some icy fey sort of abilities (or even allow the Irrisen sorceress to tap into the regenerative abilities of Little Grandmother's troll armies!).

Updated for Pathfinder release (since the Animal Domain power that inspired it has been axed). No longer a Feat, it's now an Alternate Class Feature, replacing the Animal Domain priests Animal Companion class feature.

Mother of Monsters alternate class feature

Prerequisites Must have access to the Animal Domain, must have Lamashtu as a divine patron.

Benefit
A Mother of Monsters replaces her 4th level Animal Domain class feature (Animal Companion) with the ability to extend a single summon monster or summon nature’s ally spell by enduring an 8 hour ritual in which she physically gives birth to the creature to be summoned. During the first seven hours, she must consume seven days worth of food and water, and is treated as Sickened. Over the course of the eighth hour, during which time she is treated as nauseated, she delivers the monster, suffering 2 pts. of Constitution damage, and becoming Exhausted.

The 'newborn' creature and appears as a Tiny version of its adult form, and grows over the next 15 minutes to its full size. Any creature from the appropriate summon monster or summon nature’s ally list can be birthed in this manner, so long as it is an animal or vermin with the fiendish template (even in the case of a Druid using the summon nature’s ally list, the animal or vermin birthed will have the fiendish template), and will always be chaotic evil, regardless of the priest’s alignment.

This ability is gained at 4th level, and at that time, the Cleric (or Druid) can only access the summon monster I or summon nature’s ally I lists, as appropriate. At 6th level, the priest can birth a fiendish template animal or vermin from the summon monster II or summon nature’s ally II list, as appropriate. At 10th level, the Mother can use the summon monster III or summon nature’s ally III list, at 14th level, she can use the summon monster IV or summon nature’s ally IV list, and at 18th level, she gains the ability to birth a creature from the summon monster V or summon nature’s ally V list.

The fiendish beast gains any Intelligence score (unless it already has a higher intelligence) due a Familiar at that level, the Natural Armor bonus and abilities such as Empathy, Share Spells, Evasion, Speak with creatures of its own kind and Speak with master. It retains its own hit dice, hit points, saving throws and skills, unlike a true Familiar. Additionally, the effect lasts until the creature is dismissed or destroyed, up to a maximum of one month.

Due to the intense nature of the bond between the 'Mother' and the fiend, if it is slain, she immediately suffers 2 pts of Constitution damage and is exhausted. If the Lamashtan priest is slain, the fiend loses any familiar benefits it had acquired, but is otherwise unharmed, and does not have to return to its native plane at the end of its original month of service...

A Cleric (or Druid) with this feat (and the Animal Domain) can only have one such fiendish creature in existence at a time.

Normal A Cleric (or Druid) with the Animal Domain gains an Animal Companion at -3 levels.

Special This class feature may be taken by a male worshipper of Lamashtu, but he will have to use some form of shapechanging magic that allows him to assume a female form for at least 8 hours to make use of it.

Just wanted to ring in and say that I LOVE this idea. Absolutely love it.

Nice, cool, gross idea for Lamashtu's priestesses. This really does belong in the Wayfinder mag.

Beautifully rancid, it really spreaks to the grotesque being inside of me
