This is the discussion thread for the SFS pbp I'm starting. Unfortunately it has all the players we need right now, based off my Pathfinder Society pbp...
So, lets get some discussion around characters going.... Build out, or use pre-gens.
Go!

It looks like being clear what role your character has on a space ship is a good thing to have in mind during character build.... especially as we are probably going to use these characters together again making a good mesh would be sensible.
Mothman |
Ha! Yes, the first one is exactly Han Solo (I was watching the Star Wars Bad Lip Reading before I went to bed and saw your new thread last night, Han Solo is where the inspiration came from).
I kind of like the idea of the Solarian for exactly the same reason I made a warforged paladin for Aubrey's game when we started in 3.5 - everyone said the class (or in that case class/race combination) was underpowered / stupid.
Solarian's seem not be getting much love on the forums.
The only issue I have with the Solarian is that they don't have a clear 'ship-board' role (as far as I can see so far) as a lot of the other classes do. But they can add a couple of class skills to their list, so I should be able to fill in gaps.
"muscular psychic alien that produces weapons from nowhere and doesn't like being on the ground" - perfect!
Nevynxxx |
Yeah, the module I'm running has a breakout for "Ship roles for the Iconics" so where they best fit in ship-side.... This is what it says about the Solarian....
Altronus: This kasatha solarian can operate as a mediocre
captain but has few other starship-relevant skills beyond
being a backup gunner.
I think both of the Society ship types have multiple gunners, so possibly go that route.
- The pilot should have a good Piloting bonus.
- Gunners should have a good base attack bonus (at least equal to her level) or the Piloting skill.
- Engineers should have a good Engineering bonus.
- Science officers should have a good Computers bonus.
- The captain should have a good Bluff, Diplomacy, or Intimidate bonus, as well as any of the skills identified above.

OK. I had figured out Solo, but Korasha Lashunta Spacefarer Solarion ? I can't even say it three times fast.
Anyway, I picked up the rules. (Yea for affordable PDFs!) And it's too much to process. So this will be great, like the first time I made a D&D character. I had no clue what I was doing.
Nevynxxx |
LOl, yeah. I get the same feeling!
I'm going to go through and build the characters as people post them just to get some practice I think....
The Iconics are a free download if you don't want to process it all?
Mothman |
I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Solarian for this one, which leaves the pilot role and operative class open for someone else.
I think I can do a Solarian who would make a decent captain, but if someone else ends up better suited to the captain role (and Envoy comes to mind), then my character could fill another role, probably gunner or back up gunner as suggested.
therealthom |
I've got 3 ideas.
Outlaw android operative (hacker)
Mercenary Dayama envoy (professional arbitrater)?
Priestly Ysoki mechanic (I'd work to keep him distinct from Winter's mech)
Although pilot beckons, I'll leave it for others. If no one wants it, I'll give it a whirl.
Based on my quick read of classes, races, and themes, I think we don't need to worry about filling all roles. We'll see how it works out.
Nevynxxx |
* Korasha Lushunta Spacefarer Solarian - Mothman - captain or gunner
* spacefaring android mechanic -Wintergreen - engineer
* Ysoki, and Spacefarer theme, and probably Soldier class. - Aubs - gunner
Looking well rounded, a mystic wouldn't go amiss....
Mothman |
If thom goes with the android operative, that character is likely to be a good fit for the Science Officer and/or Pilot roles.
If anyone decides they would prefer to play a character who may make a more obvious captain than my Solarian (eg, an envoy), I am happy to go back to my ace pilot operative idea.
therealthom |
Android operative is my first choice. He has the best backstory in my mind. Science officer fits well with my hacker sub-theme, but I would also be happy with pilot.
If I play the envoy, I wouldn't be aiming for captain.
If I went Ysoki mechanic, then pilot works. A kinder, gentler Rocket.
Nevynxxx |
Ok, looking at things, I'd suggest that PR take the Iconic Mystic.
That is partly because I love the character, he's quote funny. It's also though because he'd fill a nice gap for you in some healing ability.....
If time to generate out a character is tight, that's probably a good option to begin with..... Of course, it's just a suggestion!
Nevynxxx |
LOL, ok, sounds like a good way to get going.
* Korasha Lushunta Spacefarer Solarian - Mothman - captain or gunner
* spacefaring android mechanic -Wintergreen - engineer
* Ysoki, and Spacefarer theme, and probably Soldier class. - Aubs - gunner
* Android Operative - Thom - Science Officer
* Shirren Mystic (Pre-Gen) - Pixie Rogue - Captain/science officer
So you have skills, combat and healing covered, you have all of the roles on the ship covered except pilot, which may be a bit wierd, but shouldn't be a problem. There are a few different ship combats coming up, so can swap and change as you like anyway.
So, let's get statted up and then we can get going.
Nevynxxx |
I thought Keskodai-clone was a medic?
He's a mystic medic.... Mystic class, centred around healing...
Are there any specific character generation rules for SFS?
Yes, in the Starfinder society guide, but effectively it's just "do a default build", have 1000 credits to buy stuff, and the rule of "you can only buy stuff of your level or 1 higher" is in place.
Gwen Portrow |
I've got to buy gear and pick a feat. Otherwise I'm good to go on paper. I think. Who knows how many mistakes I've made.
I'll try to fill out Tofana's profile soon.
Nevynxxx |
Almost there ...
That all looks cool, but you still seem to have another point to spend on stats (did you miss the +1 to con from spacefarer?) and you can have +2 to any two skills from being a Lashunta..... (Computers and pilot seem to make sense...)

I'm pretty sure the ability point buy is correct, but I'll re-check. And yeah, you're right, I haven't actually factored in any racial abilities yet other than the ability and hit point mods.

It's a zero cost PDF product, drops all of the iconics at all the levels they do them for into your "my downloads" as a single zip.

OK, Magnus is largely up, need to decide a few peripheral details and a background.
Without building from scratch I'd say, write down your perception, and your piloting skills down too, you've not trained them, but they may come in handy ;)
Wintergreen |
Ok, assuming Pixie goes with the mystic.... Just waiting for the stats on WayF (a pun on waif? Are they a a stray?) and Thom's character before we get going....
Waif .... a stray; Wayf.... start of Wayfinder......
I'll input the stats now.

My search-fu must be weak, but I went through the blogs last night and this morning as well as the documents I downloaded and found nothing. Even after you showed me where to look, I couldn't find a combination of search terms that allowed me to find it - granted, I was getting pages and pages of results and giving up if it wasn't on the first few.
Anyway, Pixie is planning on taking the mystic, yes.

It took me a couple of googles to get to it, and I knew the name of the product!
That store link should take you right to it, for me it just says "in your downloads" on the right, but you should have a link of some sort to "purchase" it and add it to your downloads..... or I can email you the one you need.....
