Pathfinder Licensee Pre-Order! TOME OF SECRETS

Product Discussion

1 to 50 of 105 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Adamant Entertainment is pleased to announce that our first licensed product for The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game will be available via PDF and mail order, as well as at GenCon, on August the 13th, with world-wide distribution to game and book stores to follow this Fall.

The Tome of Secrets is a collection of advanced and optional rules for players and game masters, and includes:

  • 8 new classes, including the Artificer, Knight, Priest, Shaman, Spellblade, Swashbuckler, Warlock and Warlord.

  • Rules for character occupations (what your heroes did before they were heroes).

  • A system for character drawbacks, fleshing out your heroes with flaws.

  • New rules for The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, including Chases, Morale, Stunts, and more!

  • Game Master tools including a random adventure generator, a monster modifier, and a generator capable of creating over one million magic items!

We're currently running a pre-order special, where customers will have the book shipped to them immediately after the go-live date, and will receive a complimentary PDF of the book emailed to them (direct from the GenCon exhibitor's hall) on the 13th!

Go to our website for more information.

very cool

Thanks for the info/link. Could you shed any light on the new classes in the book? Are they similar to/take-offs from 4e, re-visioned for Pathfinder, or something else?

AJC

yeah I would not mind seeing what you did to a few of them really

I'm heading out of the office for the day, but I wanted to quickly respond:

Most of the new classes are inspired by popular 3.X classes. The Warlord is my attempt to do something similar to the 4E class, but within the Pathfinder rules system.

As far as giving previews -- to be honest, I'm not sure what I'm legally allowed to do, given section 4 of the Pathfinder® Roleplaying Game Compatibility License, which states that I cannot release anything until the 13th of August. Going by the strict letter of the license, that would apply to excerpts as well.

ok got ya, yeah better safe and all that. what about an ideal of what one is like without showing mechanics.

Like says shaman.. they have x hd and BAB, gain spells similar to a sorc and gain ability such as calling spirits so on.

Alittle about it without hard mechanics

Dark Archive

Very interesting. Is the PDF being released on August 13 too?

Will the dead tree version be hardback?

Paizo Employee Franchise Manager

Will you be selling either the pdf or dead-tree version here on Paizo.com? Not that it matters for the pdf but I like to get my Pathfinder Advantage discount on as many items as I can when I order things online.

Interesting. I will have to pick this up when I get a chance.

Edit - ~GRINS~ So begins the trickle of 3PP doing Pathfinder stuff. Yay!!!

Damnation, so much to do, including fix a window and now this...

I'll be interested to see how your spellblade compares to my Legionary when I get it fully updated to Pathfinder final.

I don't wish to detract from your product announcement in any way, but for the sake of accuracy, I have to point out that, to my knowledge, the first licensed Pathfinder RPG Compatible product available for preorder was actually 1 on 1 Adventures #1–11—Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Edition, from Expeditious Retreat Press, which became available for preorder on April 17, and is also slated for a Gen Con release. I think the second product was 1 on 1 Adventures #12: Journey to Riddle Canyon. This might be the third, though....

And it is certainly the first non-module release I've heard of.

You can't release "products" until August 13. But by all means, feel free to post previews and other marketing material!

Oh... I've left out Rite Publishing's Coliseum Morpheuon. Which is using the patronage model, so whether the word "preorder" is accurate or not may be a matter of personal judgement.

Gareth, will the crunchy bits be covered under the OGL?

I'm particularly interested in the classes, and how much they resemble the existing 3.5 classes that have the same names (eg. Warlock). I'd love to see some previews, but this does have me a bit interested.

This product looks "Totally Freakin' Awesome".

Really, this looks to fulfill some important roles in the style of campaign I want to run after PFRPG is released. I will order this as soon as I can.

Thanks to an extra callout this weekend, I will be ordering this on Friday. YAY!!!

Guess I'll enjoy the PDF of this along with the PFPRG while I'm over in Iraq.

Thanks for the quick response. Hopefully (given some of the comments from Vic) you'll be able to get some previews out for the "hordes" over the next several weeks... :) I'm likely going to be placing my pre-order later this weekend.

Hot damn, this does actually look very nice!
And the price point for International Shipping has me very very interested! $7.95 worldwide!

If I have any spare cash left over after stashing away for PFRPG, then this will definately be going on my list!

(Taking a moment away from the 4th of July holiday with the family to post some quick responses--)

Vic: Fair enough! Feel Free to edit the thread title to drop the "First" -- credit where credit is due, after all. :)

Golem101: Yes, the PDF will be available on the 13th.

firbolg: The book will be softcover.

yoda8myhead: Yes, the PDF will be available here at Paizo. I suspect that the print version will unfortunately have to wait until the book hits distribution in October, though. We're just doing a short run for pre-orders and GenCon. The main run is in the Fall.

delabarre: Yes, the rules will be 100% Open Content. Adamant is a firm believer in the OGL.

On the subject of previews: Since Vic has given the OK, I'll be posting previews over the next few weeks in the General forum!

Great news.

Since Paizo has set the price for the PFRPG PDF at such an accessible level, I'll be able to buy on the same day both products in digital edition (blasted raises in VATs across the pond!).

Looking forward for the previews. :)

If the classes are as good as I hope they are, I hope you release another Tome with some substitutes of some of the fave character races. Warforged, Shifter, & changeling come to mind. Not just for an eberron conversion, but those 3 were in a monster manual for use in other campaigns, just not OGL.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm a little concerned that having Artifacer and Warlord, especially if they do something similar to the same named classes in 3.5, might skirt a line a bit.

I want to see a class that crafts and modifies magic items, and one that can boost and coordinate others in combat, but I just don't want anyone to have the hammer dropped on them, especially if they do a really good job making these classes.

Dark Archive

I would like to order it so i could get the PDF free, but after checking with August and Sept being huge months cause of Paizo pathfinder books, my budget is just to tight right now sadly.

Well hope it is good and guess I will see about picking it up in Oct.

Was this developed with an advance copy of the final Pathfinder rules, or was it based on Beta and the various hints on the web about changes in the final rules?

I wouldn't worry too much about the names. The Eberron Artificer was the 3rd base class I saw with that name when it was released. One of them is in the Steam & Sorcery book by Fantasy Flight Games. Warlord has been a PrC, but cant remember the product, just some homebrews that are considered OGC. My only worry is how much different will the artificer be from the 3.5e one.

Adamant was given an advanced copy of the rules, so I assume that they are using that to create their products. But only Gareth really knows. :)

I thought that the pdf companies (those that sell pdfs on Paizo's site at least) got the rules as well (assuming the agreed to the license).

Sounds like an excellent product that will add some cool content into the Pathfinder RPG. I'll definitely pick this one up!

And this is excellent news too :). I'm glad that publishers will continue to support the OGL into the Pathfinder era by releasing new Open Content. As always, it is easy enough to comply with the letter of the OGL but not the spirit by releasing crippled OGC material. I'm delighted to see that Open Gaming movement is still alive and well.

Doh! How'd I miss that. I did a quick look over it and usually the page count is listed at the bottom so when I didn't see it I figured it wasn't there. Thanks for pointing that out.
