D&D shoes sound silly to me. :P

But hey, if you like 'em, go for it.

And extreme pardons but: calling out a company for making themed shoes sounds a little elitist.

meh, no worries - I'm married with children, I've been called worse ;)

Wait -- when did elitist get changed to a bad word?

1842 - didn't you get the memo?

Whatever.

Some boutique shoe manufacturer wanted to do a D&D shoe.

WotC is making a contest out of it for fun.

This is nothing to get bent out of shape over, or even to really make fun of, in my view.

The only thing in this thread I want taken seriously is my request for custom Pathfinder Vans.

VagrantW -- that memo appeared to me to be coming from a bunch of sans-coulettes, so I tossed it.

Ya, don't blame ya - they probably had to lick the stamp and walk it to the post office themselves and everything *shivers*

Urban youth demo? ( that is demography )

Poor kids can't afford that, rich kids play video games..
Adults, with money, won't wear those.. hmm. Who is going to buy these shoes?

It could be a ploy by wotc, just to make us post about them. Nasty.

Let's talk about Olivia Munn.

Olivia Munn would look GREAT in those shoes. Or should I say, those shoes would look great on Olivia Munn?

If it were Olivia Munn in just the shoes ...

Now we're talking.

I'd buy that for a dollar.

If I was 18 years younger those shoes would look sweet in my eyes.

That's because the average paizonian hates WotC just as much as he -needs them to exist- because he just -loves to hate them- (some people just need something to hate).

I need them to exist so I have pre-painted plastic minis.

Ugh ... don't even get me started on minis ... I just got back into Warhammer 40K. Plastic Crack is what it is, black tar to the extreme.

Tell ya what, VW. I want to help you kick this. I will hold -- free of charge -- your minis until I am sure that you are all better.

No hate. Hate is like the worst form of cancer, or some such thing.

Nuh uh ... not with Planetstrike coming out and those oh so pretty Imperial Bastions ...

My minis ... my ... Precioussssss

Interestingly enough, Space Marines fit perfectly on my battlemat squares.

..Not that we ever used Space Marines for stand-in minis before... <_< >_>

I don't think I could pull off the look. My wardrobe is pitifully boring.

That said, what's the big deal? Nothing to get excited about one way or the other.

I think it struck an association in the minds of frustrated folk. For me, I just saw tennies, and a chance to have a little (hopefully harmless) fun. Maybe the look would be good for you, TD. You could be the cool professor. And actually, if you wore those shoes, you might want the rest of your wardrobe to be pretty calm, just to keep things from going over board.

There wasn't any big deal - I made the error of philosophizing on the internet about something I found silly and inconveniently referential to things going on around my life right now.

It has now taken on a whole new life, all of it's own.

EDIT: Frankly I wish it had started at the Olivia Munn just wearing the shoes part ;)

This is a much better topic all-around. Can we spend the rest of the thread talking about Olivia Munn in D&D-print shoes?

Olivia Munn ... dressed down as a Succubus; in D&D print shoes.

Yummy.

You mean, you guys first thought of Olivia wearing those shoes, and then she had to strip? Cause in my mind, she was never wearing anything but the shoes.

I was at work, I mean if all I did all day was think about naked women ...

ya, you're right, I'm not sure what I was thinking.

Why on earth did this not go in the Place Your Rant Here thread?! Look at all the hostility and frustration. My poor creation lies there, all but dead and forgotten like the corpses of all those axed Forgotten Realms deities floating in the Astral Plane. This could have resurrected the monstrosity! But no, it's wasted now.

Spoiler:
You guys just wait. In a thousand years, the future threads of Paizo will be threatened by a cult of demon-worshipping threads who wish to bring back the ancient evil of the Place Your Rant Here thread. There will be an adventure path about it and everything! And my thread will be the BBEG, so there!

Saern,
I never let the death of a horse stop me from enjoying a good beating.

Why are you addressing yourself there at the end? Frustration have you talking to yourself?

Don't let it get to you. When he's rude, flag the post (with the "Flag" that is beside "Reply") and move on.

It's nothing personal, some people attack everyone who doesn't worship wotc and 4e and accuse them of being rude and insulting.

Could you stop lumping together dnd and the Wii? I have a Wii, and I'm really feeling insulted.

I have to disagree. I anything is to be made fun of, it's these shoes.

I can get T-Shirts. But d&d shoes make me shake my head.

They don't even grant 10 rounds of haste per day or +5 to acrobatics!

I haven't posted anything here that's been insulting, or a personal attack. Please cool it.

Sarah Lane was much better. Olivia so blatantly reads (and I use that term rather loosely) off the cue cards. She is just G4 attempting to appeal to the Wii "casual gamer" crowd with something bright and shinny lacking any substance.

Oh! Yes, Scott. Yes, we can.

CourtFool, I guess when it comes to women, we have different ideas of substance?

I think it goes without saying that Olivia Munn definitely has aspects which could be considered substantial.

There are some things that are beyond argument. Let he who has eyes to see, SEE.

I assure you I meant NO insult to the Wii, it's just that the Wii is always associated with the "casual gamer" thing, so that's why I used it. Nothing against the Wii here. Oh and I would never intentionally insult you because I actually respect you a lot for what i've seen of your posts here. Very intelligently reasoned and written. *bows*

Thank you very much. I think it's funny that people want to stop me or anyone else from saying anything critical about 4.0. It's just MY opinion. I'm not all powerful or anything, if you don't like my opinion why make me mad by attacking me? Just say I disagree or whatever and move on. Or say something not provocative. It's easy to be nice.

Aylengyr, I don't think I've formally welcomed you to Paizoland. Welcome! There's lots of great folks and threads in this place of happy continuance. Make yourself at home.

Lantern Lodge

I don't understand all the angst. I'm a 42yo gamer, and I buy Paizo t-shirts. Custom t-shirt sites have been popular for a while, a number of guys at work order from Threadless and similar sites.

I stumbled upon Zazzle a short while ago, a website that customises t-shirts, coffee mugs, and all manner of other products, including shoes, and I thought "Hey, that's neat! Pathfinder Society faction shoes maybe?" I guess WotC beat me to the punch, but that doesn't make it bad, just because it's 4E marketing, and they weren't even first, Magic the Gathering beat WotC to the punch!

Google "custom sneakers" and you'll find any number of fan blogs and custom sneaker websites. Custom sneakers don't come cheap, some sites charge top-price for one-off custom designs:

www.solebrother.com wrote:
Attention: Prices start at $400 USD to $700 USD.

other sites use social voting or competition to select the most popular designs to manufacture and sell in quantities.

You can design/purchase a custom Zazzle shoe for $50 to $60, but these only appear to be available in womens and kids styles, or else I might have been tempted to try one using Paizo's community use images.

It might be interesting to look around and compare made-to-order sites for other products, such as coffee mugs. A set of Pathfinder Iconic coffee mugs would be awesome, or maybe Pathfinder Society faction mugs? Though one would have to carefully scrutinise the terms of such sites so that Pathfinder-design products were only salable to yourself [Private] and not added to the social gallery of products for general sale [Public], this may not be possible on all such sites.

Paizo's community use policy clearly forbids charging others for Pathfinder product, and placing designs on t-shirts or mugs that others could purchase would certainly cross that line. Compare with Wayfinder magazine, Paizocon faction dice bags, or Lilith's cookies, all of which are given freely to the community ;-)

PS: Five stars simply aren't enough to accurately review Wayfinder magazine!

Honestly, I just want my Sarenraen ankh and Osirioni khopesh.

And yeah, I don't see the problem here either.

Hey, DarkWhite. I don't think what happened in this thread really had anything to do with custom sneakers. There's just a certain attraction between how it was perceived and a raw nerve among certain former customers who take it as a further mark of their alienation, and that collided with the desire of others to defend said company from what they see as unfair errors of the intellect. No big deal.

I'm an aging gamer, and I'm not happy with Wotci or their new edition, but I kind of think the contest and the shoes are kind of cool. (And I've never played a MMORPG.)

Wow! D&D shoes... that's a sure way to get your *** kicked if you are in school or something!

Erik Mona wrote:

Olivia Munn in custom shoes for a dollar? I tell you what, if I can get the hardcopy for $42, and a free PDF, I don't even need the shoes.

You know what sucks? My local cable company took off G4. Yet there are 3 ESPNs (4 ESPNs?) and ...AND a a VERSUS channel? Is there also a Golf Channel? But I can't have G4 and my ATTACK OF THE SHOW? (I also enjoy X-Play and Code Monkeys.)

I would actually prefer to see custom Pathfinder Puma Frankenclydes. They're very similar to the Vans I used to wear, but I found that the padding of the heel in the Vans broke-down a lot faster. Frankenclydes are almost the same leather uppers (wide shoe, no leather lip at the toe) as the Vans I had but they're just so much more durable. In 2005 I bought two pairs that are identical. The second pair is in my closet for when I finally think the first pair have seen enough. THAT WOULD NOT STOP ME FROM GETTING PATHFINDER PUMA FRANKENCLYDES (if the illustration is an action shot by Wayne Reynolds). Of course they're suede, so I'm not sure how a print would work on them, but this is the future so anything is possible.

Oh yeah, and I don't need to hate on WotC, that's what Microsoft is for.

Liberty's Edge

Just to throw in my own words on the matter (not that it matters) but ... "eh". Not too big of a deal. Not a fan but whatever.

However I did want to try and make a point on why a lot of people have knee jerk reactions (or even well thought out ones) to the whole "WotC </3 DIEEE" thing.

Drawn out story below

Spoiler:
After 4th edition came out and I bought the core books. We sat around the table and tried to give it a shot. Tried for a couple weeks to give it a shot. In the end, we felt like this was more like playing D&D minis then it was D&D (or what we believe D&D to be).

Before that was the cancelation of Dragon and Dungeon magazines of being print as well as taking it away from Paizo who had pretty much ressurected it's magic awesome.

Then Forgotten Realms was blown to kingdom come.

... that's it, I'm done.

Yes, people make mistakes and I think Wizards has made big ones. I could dwell on whether or not THEY think they did but I stopped caring. They just did too much stuff to my hobby that I hated and it's left a bitter taste in my mouth. I mean if for 3 times in a row I went to visit an old friend and he kicked me in the junk each time, would I want to keep going to see him?

I don't know if I've got my point across but I'm basically saying I think a lot of people ARE bitter with WotC and MAYBE sometimes that shines through with how we view things but at the same time there IS a reason we have that feeling.

I'm not going to say this is just another marketing ploy but I know I'm not a fan of this or anything done by them now as I just don't like what they've done. I sold all my 4E books on ebay and not looking back.

As of right now, Paizo's been pretty cool and when I check in to see what's going on with my new game AND company of choice, I haven't once been kicked in the privates.

... doesn't mean it won't happen though >_>

As a side note: grats to anyone who managed to read through this whole thing.
