Are the splinter in tech cults mainly due to the 3 noble families (ie. each family has a cadre of loyal techies)?

Or are the split more ideological?

On the surface, it would appear to be loyalty to the three noble houses and specialisation in specific tasks on the ship.

For instance, the sisterhood of reclamation deal with maintaining the ecology of the bilge paddies, no other order of tech priests is allowed to interfere. On top of this, their close alliance with the salami adds to the conflict between the tech-cults.

Under the surface however, deep ideological differences drive the conflict on further. Fire fights between acolytes of the machine cult is not an uncommon occurrence, perhaps even more common than the gunfights between gang members in Gamatown. Of cause, exactly what the ideological breaks between these cults is, is entirely a mystery to those not initiated into the mysteries of the machine spirits, but enough cries of heretic have been called in raspy synthetic voice over the years to know that these battles are over something a little more than loyalty or jurisdiction

Actually, I think I'm bowing out of this one.

Uh, bump?

The Exchange

So...55 posts later, what's happening?

Hey, Zombieneighbor? You still out there?

double bump

Should I just let this die now?

Dark Archive

Davi, care to DM a Dark Heresy PBP?

Well, I could give it a shot. Alright everyone, make a first level character and wipe the adventure in the back of the book out of your minds, because a Dark Heresy game is being played one way or another.

Standard First Level PC right? No limitation as to class and homeworld? Is the inquisitor's handbook open?

The Exchange

Davi, can you give us a guideline to character creation, with available home worlds, career, starting exp, gold, etc?

Exactly. A standard, 400xp, any-book-usable first level character.

The Exchange

Are there spots open on this one Davi? I'd be keen to try some 40k before my real life group kicks it off later this year.

Cheers

Sweet, I'll get to creating a charcter ASAP. And I'll read through this thread more thoroughly to get an understanding of things a bit better.

Dark Archive

Present your character to Davi. He's the DM. But I don't think he'd refuse. Thus far, only Wilhelm and I have signified our continuing interest.

Well here's my (wrath's) Tech priest. Was surprisingly fast to generate this character.

Got some lousy rlls, but then a d100 system is alot more forgiving than the old d20.

Hopefully he passes muster.

Cheers

If there's still room for players, I'd also be interested in joining.

I have played through a number of the published adventures before (although I can't remember what the names of them were unfortunately), but if that wouldn't be a problem, then I'd like to sign up.

It's no problem. As long as you don't remember the adventure that's in the back of the book, you'll be fine.

Also, Ivaanov looks good.

No problem. If I do remember anything, then I will of course keep player and character knowledge separate.

I've rolled up a character tonight (I love DH's random generation mechanics) and got a Guardsman. Think I've got everything done apart from a more detailed background. I bought a couple of extra things - just grenades and more ammo, really. While I could fit another weapon in the equipment list, it would leave me with absolutely no thrones at all, so I decided to leave it out for now. The bigger weapons will perhaps come later :D

How will you be working the Inquisitor? Will we be choosing one from the book or will it be a surprise? :). I've never actually played in a DH game that has the group's Inquisitor as a NPC - my tabletop group's DM likes to assign the role to a player (with all the others as the acolytes), so my experience is a little different to the default way of playing.

I'm still in. I'll roll up a new one very soon and post it up.

Thanks Eccentric!

Alright everyone, let's simply put a vote for which inquisitor from the book you want. All I ask is that you ignore the parts of their descriptions that your characters have no way of knowing. (For example, Inquisitor X secretly makes pacts with daemons and will probably end up with one of you shooting him in the head after he goes insane from the Warp.) Basically, ignore most of the second paragraph of their descriptions.

Havn't read that section of the book yet. I really don't mind who takes us on board. However, I will try and read through it tonight and give you a considered vote if its needed.

Cheers, and thanks for getting this going. Should be interesting.

Alright. The default Inquisitors are on pages 318-322.

The Exchange

Alrighty, my two prefernces are Ahmazzi (Ordo malleus), or Astrid Skane. (Ordo Hereticus)

I like the idea of hunting demons with Ahmazzi.

I like the military bent of Skane and the fact she likes to get up close and personal with her enemies.

That's my two cents any way :)

cheers

I'm with the Daemon Hunter (Ahmazzi).

I'm still at the office. Will post Burgos' updated stats when I get home. Will use the Maccabeus Quintus benefits btw.

Cheers

Hm.. think my vote would be for either Astrid Skane or Al-Subaai. Happy to go with the majority though, of course! :)

So far, we have

  • 2 votes for Demonhunter Ahmazzi of the Ordo Malleus
  • 2 votes for Inquisitor Astrid Skane of the Ordo Hereticus
  • 1 vote for Inquisitor Al-Subaai of the Ordo Xenos

Shriekback, you're the tiebreaker. Well, you could be annoying and vote for Al-Subaai...

Note: Until we actually start, we're still accepting characters. This doesn't mean voting's over yet.

The Exchange

I vote for Lady Rathborn. Since people seems to get 2 votes, both of my votes will go for Lady Rathborn. In addition, if Lady Rathborn is not chosen, I will call this election a fraud and lead a silent protest (this seems like the popular thing to do around the world these days).

Esscentric, how important is monthly income? To ask the question another way, would the story flow through many months or just a few?

Will update Justine later tonight.

Well, the first adventure will be over the course of less than a week, so I'll decide once we finish the first mission.

So, an update to the poll.

  • 2 votes for Demonhunter Ahmazzi of the Ordo Malleus
  • 2 votes for Inquisitor Astrid Skane of the Ordo Hereticus
  • 1 vote for Inquisitor Al-Subaai of the Ordo Xenos
  • 1 vote for Lady Olianthe Rathbone of the Ordo Too-Snooty-To-Join-One

Yes, I'm biased. Deal with it. EDIT: Oh, each person can only vote for each Inquisitor once. Don't want only two people wanting an Inquisitor and being stuck with it because the other three couldn't decide on one person for all of them to agree on.

So far we have:

Burgos - Imperial World Cleric (Chaplain)
Gaia - Imperial World Guardsman
Ivaanov Drivanovich - Imperial World Techpriest

Wilhem - will you be going as another female Guardsman?

It is possible that we are members of the same Imperial Guard unit seconded to the Inquisitor. Thoughts?

Burgos wrote:

Thanks Ravadel. You know, I perfectly fine with 3/5 (or is it 3/4?) of the party being from the same unit. So, any complaints?

Perfectly fine by me, and it makes it easier to have that party cohesion thing rather than spend 50 posts working out why we should all stick together :)

I'm currently trying to get my head into the way a techpriest will act. Not much in the novels I've read to date about the tech priest side of things as anything more than almost automatons as background characters.

I'm thinking a bit more like Ravenor, the soul remains intact, even though the body becomes more mechanically reliant.

Also Davi, I was going to spend some cash on this character tonight. The book says initially there are no limitations on availability if you use your starter cash, but I wanted to check with you first. Anything you don't want us to access, or are you happy for me to buy with the possibility of vetoing afterwords?

Cheers

To be fair, Dark Heresy is easier than most to figure out the initial party meeting and why you should stick together - your Inquisitor picked you all to be his acoloytes (for one reason or another) and you don't say no to the Inquisition :D

I think Wilhelm has an assassin, no?

Bleh.. I clearly can't spell first thing in the morning. Should have been acolyte above. Also, despite what I said about DH parties being easy to set up, the idea of the party all being from the same world originally (Imperial draft? :D) is rather cool.

I'm almost finished with my charactor. I just need to know if a Imperial Psycher will be ok?

As to the Inquisitor, either of the first two would be ok.

Currently reading the Gaunt's Ghosts First Omnibus - Founding. Hence, the Imperial Guard suggestion.

Wrath, you might also wanna try the Eisenhorn Omnibus.

A friend actually bought me 'Founding' for Christmas - I'm about 2/3s of the way through it just now. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing. I usually don't expect tie-in books to be up to much, but Abnett's a good writer.

Wrath, spend your money on whatever you want. I'm fine with just about anything.

Once again, it's one of the base classes, I'm fine with it. Just please, don't go power-crazy. Neither of us want to deal with you suddenly becoming a Daemonhost.

Assuming I'm understanding your votes right, the votes are now:

  • 3 votes for Demonhunter Ahmazzi of the Ordo Malleus
  • 3 votes for Inquisitor Astrid Skane of the Ordo Hereticus
  • 1 vote for Inquisitor Al-Subaai of the Ordo Xenos
  • 1 vote for Lady Olianthe Rathbone of the Ordo Too-Snooty-To-Join-One

Davi, my updated stats are under my profile.

A mind-cleansed cleric was really tempting....

Davi,

I thinking the Metallican Gunslinger from the Inquisitor's Handbook (p.72-73) is very interesting. Do I have your permission to take that instead of the Sell-Steel for Assassin?

If the answers is yes, I have a question. All Gunslingers are from Gunmetal City, which I assume is a Hive World? Justine's current stats are based on a Forge World, but I can easily change that around.

Once again, yes I'm fine with anything that has been published in a book. Also, yes you have to be from Gunmetal City to take it, which is on Scintilla, which is a Hive World.

Ok, I think I've pretty much finished Ivaanv now.

I spent some cash, but didn't buy anyhitng overly fancy.

I used the reroll option for his toughness (didn't realise I could reroll one before)

I rolled some background info, but really used this to generate my own stuff. I've written a brief history for him and a description of what he looks like.

I didn't go the option of having him belong to the same guard unit, as it makes more sense for him to have been involved with the Machine Cult instead. I wrote a suitably open ended tie in for why he's here in my background.

Everyone is free to read over it.

Radavel - I havn't got the Eiesnhorne omnibus, but will do so eventually. I do have the original inquisitor book written as the tabletop large scale miniatures game though. A fair bit of stimulus in that. Cheers

Looks good, Wrath. It's a bit odd, having the alias picture for a tech-priest being Burly Smurf with a Glasgow smile, but there really aren't a lot of tech-priest-appropriate pictures so who cares.

Yeah I wasn't really happy with the avatar myself. Then I went and looked through all the pages and found this one instead. Must have missed it on my first time through. Gives me a much better feel for some kind of techno freak.

Now when people come through and read your post, it isn't going to make sense hehe.

Cheers

Davi, I think I should be good to go. Take a look a the character and let me know how it is. Once it's approved, I can combine all the separately groups of talents & tears and considerably shorten the character sheet. Also, I'll figure out a short bg and appearance.

Overall she looks good, but I question a few of your design decisions. First, wouldn't you be better off taking Ambidextrous, given your easy access to the two-weapon fighting talents? Second, wouldn't you be better off taking the Gunmetal City version of Hive World in the Inquisitor's Handbook? Retyped here, for your convenience.

Spoiler:
Replaces Accustomed To Crowds. Gains: Packing Iron: If you do not have a usable gun for any reason, -5 to all tests. Way of The Gun: +5 to Ballistic Skill, gain Pistol Training(SP), +5 to Tech-Use checks involving projectile firearms.

EDIT: Didn't realize you could buy Ambidextrous that easily. Ignore my first question.

Davi,

Thanks for the tip on the Gunmetal City info. I have incorporated them into Justine's profile. A question regarding the this particular topic:

- Does Speak Language (Metallican Hive Dialect) replaces Speak Language ( Hive Dialect) or do Justine get both? Is there actually a significant difference between the two? In other words, can someone who speaks Metallican Hive Dialect communicate with someone who speaks Hive Dialect?

As for my particular choice of talents, here's my line of thought:

- Before you do any dmg, you gotta hit the enemy.
- Ergo, I am going to spend big time to upgrade Justine's BS as well as other talents/skills that would allow her to shoot first/get the drop on the enemy (I regret missing out Silent Move as a Sell-Steel, but to gain something you gotta sacrifice something).
- Ambidextrous allows you to shoot with no penalty on your offhand, but doesn't allow you to attack with both weapons in the same round. Justine must take Two-Weapon Wielder (Ballistic) before Ambi.
- Even with both of these talents, Justine is still shooting with -10 to BS until she gets Gunslinger.

The road to a deadly dual-wielder is a long one and Justine will eventually get there (assuming she survives long enough), but I just don't have enough exp to pull it off right now.

Another question:

- Can I sell starting gear? I am asking cause I am a bit strapped for cash and don't see a use for the shotgun and shells. And what price do you fetch for selling? Full or half or even less?

First, they're the same thing, as Mettalican Hive Dialect is the dialect of Gunmetal City, which you are from.

Second, I'm not that certain about letting you trade it in for money right now, but I'm assuming it's your property and not the Ordo's, and there's going to be someone who's willing to get you whatever you need *wink wink, nudge nudge* very early in the mission, and if you, say, needed some Thrones, he would give you some, and if you gave him your shotgun as a gift, I would have no complaints.

In other words, once the game starts sell it to the guy who's willing to talk to you, and I'll handle the rest from there.
