I have a friend giving me advice on this pbp(an all arcane game was his idea...), and he had this to say in an email:

I can't see how you would break the eldritch glaive in a pure warlock build... but then, maybe I'm just not good enough at optimizing...

Quicken Spell like ability, Combat Reflexes and Repelling Blast=2 fullattacks per round with reach weapon that strikes as touch attack, deals a heap of d6's per blow and throws opponents back so you can hit them againg when they approach you.

Well, since it's impossible to get 2 full attacks, I presume you meant to say just 1 full round attack, with a chance for a few AoOs from Combat Reflexes.

Cool combo, but since we're only level 5, that won't happen for another 5 levels (Quicken Spell-Like Ability needs Caster Level 10 as a pre-req).

Apathy, I agree it's more fun to pick spells/invocations that fit the character, but you can still get some fun power ;)

Dragonborn3, maybe you're thinking of the Brachiation feat? That gives a bonus to climbing in trees and you can Take 10, I think. Sounds like a fun idea, the Monkey Warlock. Beats his chest and farts his Eldritch Blasts, lol.

Get Devil's Sight and the Darkness Invocation and you can blind your opponent whithout hurting yourself.

My friend also made Megaman using warlock. A warforged warlock with the Mitral Body feat.

Well, Darkness really isn't that great in 3.5, and there are better things to spend your invocations on.

Oh, and I should be done with my equipment.

3.5 Darkness is better than beta Darkness at least.

Can I get an estimate on how long it will be till everyone is ready?

Will be done by tomorrow evening.

Cheliax

Will be done by tomorrow morning

Will be done in a few hours.

For the Warlock, it's good we aren't 6th level. Fell flight and Eldritch Spear, and the Warlock could have been flying 200 feet away and blasting all his opponents at his/her leisure :)

Cheliax

Yeah that's disappointing but i bet they will ban such spells or there will be a arena which you can't leave

Shadow Lodge

There are three one-hundred foot circles in the arena where the competition is being held. The rules will be discussed when you register for The Golden Wand.

Ignoring the cries of the merchants and conmen lining the road, Usu kept his eyes focused ahead. His goal was in sight after many days of walking. His stride firm, his pace fast, the brown-clad mystic approached a tent that help promise. Stopping a man who appeared to be directing lowly slaves, Usu said, "Tell me where those who wish to enter the Golden Wand tournament may go, and I shall disturb you no longer."

Usu is done. All ready to go!

Shadow Lodge

Cool. Gonna use that in the game thread? Remember to spoiler your spells prepared everyone.

Yup, that will be my "Enter stage right" line ;)
Just waiting for that thread to appear.

I'll get my spells prepared now.

Just waiting for everyone else to be ready, then I make the thread.

Side note: The competition won't be combat only. Though you have the choice of which competition to be in of course, so you could be in the combat only portion. Magic combat that is. Of course this won't put the duskblade at a disadvantage, I wouldn't be that mean. I've made a special competition for those "melee casters"(my kind of casters! ;p).

Violese raises one sharply slanted eyebrow. "Those who divide combat from magic divide magic from itself. Worry for my competitors, not me."

Background coming soon, rest is done.

I appologise, I'm going to have to withdraw from this. Please allow someone else in my stead.

My friend was wanting to join, but we were full. It's too bad you had to drop out. You were the dwarven necrmancer too...

I know.. I'm very sorry.. I really want to play, but i sometimes don't check the messageboards for days at a time, and i dont want to stall the thread because of that

Edit: I've made an alias, in the event that you'll keep me.. His name is Grim Boneslate

I'll also try to get some semblance of stats posted between 1700 and 1800 est.

Shadow Lodge

When you can, maybe you can be a thorn in the side NPC. You'd be in full control and cause trouble for the contestants. I wouldn't mind you being a psuedo-DM. That way you can still participate and wouldn't need to worry about time inbetween posts.

Cheliax

lol, thorn in the side NPC it is then lol.. i wish i could have posted something by now, but i have to go somewhere again.. i've always got to go somewhere :(

Give the dwarf necromancer a bump in power and he could become a disgruntled ex-contestant. Turned away for whatever reason ("no undead allowed" ruling, etc), he creates and commands undead to ruin the competition and demonstrate the power of his craft.

Let Jason use the Libris Mortis and surprise us with the 'unique' deadly undead. Exploding skeletons, brain-eating zombies, ranger ghouls, yeah!

Heh, with Spell Compendium, Complete Mage, Heroes of Horror, and Libris Mortis.. Grim would be surprising indeed lol

Shadow Lodge

True. Try not to be too powerful though(I am restricting you to Libris Mortis and Heroes of Horror). This is supposed to fun and challenging(in a different way). Make your character 8th level with 5 thousand starting gold and will see what your necromancer can really do. I do ask that when I make the OOC thread that you post anything not in the books listed above(spoilered).
Is everyone ready?

Dragonborn3 wrote:

Is everyone ready?

Let's do this!

Cheliax

Almost done feel free to start the thread i don't want to hold it up

Shadow Lodge

And so The Golden Wand begins...

"Bring it!"

Cheliax

So, DM:

Spoiler:

If Grim wanted undead with him, would he have to cast Animate Dead after he begun the tournament, or could he arrive with them? Also, if he is required to cast the spell after he is already there, how would you like to handle that, since he'd have to have physical access to the bodies?

Cheliax

Also:

Spoiler:

Just wanted to go over some details for Grim. Is he an ex-participant? Perhaps he got kicked out for something, and wants to make trouble for this years contestants? Or maybe he's just a contestant that wants to show off? What type of undead is he allowed to have? Could he raise an 8-headed hydra zombie? Or would he be limited to 16 human warrior skeletons, or something else?

Is there an OOC Thread for this?
