What happens when the blue men meet the greenmen?

First, not all forms of social control are meant to be insulting, disrespectful, or to keep people from talking about what they need to talk about. It may be quite healthy and useful, as Yoda noted.

Second, TD, it's spelled smurfony. I thought you of all people would know that.

UPDATE:

In order to make it easier for me to file your ideas and solutions about how to pimp WotC please refer to the following topics only:

* 4E (WoW-like game not liked by many)
* Licence issues (OGL, GSL)
* Setting support (e.g. New Forgotten Realms alienating old fans)
* pdf policy
* Layoffs of fan favorite designers
* Cancellation of print magazines
* D&D Insider

Thanks.

  • General:
    If they want me back as a customer, they have to change their attitude.

  • 4e:
    Well, the 4e ship has sailed for me. I don't like the game, and that cannot be changed. Should they do change their attitude, they can ask me what I'd want for 5e, though.

  • License issues:
    The GSL is a joke. Maybe the OGL was too open, but if they want anyone seriously considering to use the GSL, it needs to be fair. Salient points are that
  • You don't have to forswear using OGL or anything else
  • If you agree to the contract, you agree to the contract as it is posted at the time. If they change the contract, that only applies to future products.
  • The contract is granted in perpetuitiy, at least as far as selling existing products is concerned. If they want to stop you using it to do new stuff, so be it (won't earn brownie points with me), but that Sword of Damocles must go
  • Give people some leeway in changing the system to their needs. They need not create another license that lets people run away with the game and create their own version (that doesn't need the core books)

  • Settings:
    Are pretty much a done deal for me, too. Golarion's my new "home". They would have to do a "It has all been a bad dream" thing and discard all that stuff past, say DR 1375 or so, for me to get back into the Realms.

  • PDF policy:
    Get back all older edition PDFs to show us that wizards doesn't want older editions gone to support their current stuff. And I do mean PDFs. Watermarks are OK, but not DRM or similar nonsense. Alter the contracts so that downloads already bought can never be taken away again.

    What they do with 4e is of no concern to me, though they should put them back, too. They must see that it won't stop pirates, so instead of discouraging piracy (by discouraging honest customers as well), they need to encourage patronage.

    For later editions (if they do want me back as a customer for 5e), PDFs need to come back, and they should take an example from Paizo and offer good deals for Print+PDF, as they have promised.

  • Mags:
    Another ship that has sailed. I don't think that they'll give them back to Paizo, and they wouldn't want them, anyway. But getting back print versions would go a way in restoring my faith to the company.

    Two points. First, changing a persons words because you disagree with them is a very juvenile behavior to engage in. As several anti-smvrf bigots have said, if you don't like the comment ignore it.

    How about you take your own advice, and ignore comments and threads you don't like?

    And really, since I hate the little blue idiots, why should I not change your words so I don't add one to the thread? It's not as if your intent was changed in any way.

    I don't have issues with you complaining about people objecting to the little blue idiots - I have issues with people who preach water ("Ignore what you don't like!") and drink wine (complain about other posts). Since you fall among such hypocrites, I have issues with you.

    Hey, KaeYoss,

    Just wanted to thank you for reminding me about the thing White Wolf was doing offering free PDFs of their rules through Drivethru RPG. Snagged Exalted and will look into it later. Suspect it might be a bit over-the-top for me, but I'm curious, at least.

    Just remember, think before you post. That way you don't end up pulling down you comments and flagging yourself later.

    Flagging myself? I think you are mistaken. I stand behind what I posted - I told you to take your own advice. I just explained it out since you seemed to have misunderstood it.

    But in case you have missed it: I consider you a hypocrite, since you tell others to do (ignore posts they do not like) what you won't do yourself. I do hope you will amend your behaviour.

    No problem! Doesn't have to be that good for the price, really. And if you don't have any WoD/ST stuff yet, you get to look at the ruleset at least (I think the ST d10 pool mechanic is quite nice)

    Clearly, you don't understand what the point of smvrfing is.

    If you want, I can respond and be on topic. There's a lot of flame bait in this thread, and believe me, I can respond to such bait and give out a blistering response that will really make people question whether this community is a kind and friendly place or a worse sewer than the WotC forums. I can turn this into the flamewar that some so desperately want to start, and one way or another, this thread will get locked as a result. We can go down that path.

    Or, I can turn the other cheek and smvrf in response to the flame bait. I can try and keep the flamebait posts hidden and communicate to people that we don't particularly like flamewars here at Paizo by keeping it friendly and silly. Sure, I could be a bigger person than that and just not post at all, but you know what, I'm not lawful good. I'm chaotic evil and a raging a#@@%*! to boot. I love to throw down in a flame war. I'm happy to oblige.

    But, I'm here as Paizo's guest, and I intend to act like that guest. So when I see flame bait, I give a smvrf in response. I try to do my part to keep this community friendly, and part of that is smvrfing instead of being a raging a+~!%@$ and part of that is smvrfing those who are being raging a**#$&*s.

    Most of the complaining about smvrfing is being done by those whose bait is not being taken. The number of legitimate posts (and dear god, how much can there be left to say on a particular topic after 30 pages) that remain are few and far between. Mostly, people are just getting their WotC rage on, which just leads to flamewars.

    If you deem that to be the misuse of "toys," I guarantee I can find new, fun ways to post and be silly to keep a gasoline doused thread away from open flame. Or I can pull out my own napalm and get to work. Which do you prefer?

    Okay, I'm a wee, wee bit sorry that smurfing offends you. Generally, it is a way of saying, "keep it clean / don't get too hostile / don't turn this into a flamewar." If you are wondering why people don't just ignore a thread that is getting hostile instead, then look up in the right-hand corner of this post ... no, a little higher ... there.
