I love used bookstores!

They are where you find old magic books lost by ancient, dead wizards...

and, lost diaries of Bards...

Just stay away from the cats.

There was a great one in Philly I used to go to. I built my whole 2E collection off of what they offered. That and I picked up a ton of books, both fantasy but other stuff too like Hemingway, Dickens, Kerouac and Poe. It was great. Sadly, I can't find anything like them where I live now. :(

Hey, I've been to that bookstore, and it was awesome!
Where do you live now, CJ?
People might not expect it, but DFW has plenty of good used bookstores.

Sovereign Court

DFW?

I bet that's where you can find plenty of Hero books. ;)

RotRL ended up in Arlington's HPB and my buddy called me. By the time I got there, Sins of the Savior was all that was left. : (

Friends should buy friends entire APs...

Did you go to coupon week, Heathy?

I got:
FR Campaign Setting (brand new with map inside)
Unearthed Arcana
Monsters III miniature box
Uruk-Hai miniature box

I went back for Libris Mortis, but pffsstt it was gawn.

Liberty's Edge

I saw Libris Mortis at the main one on Northwest Highway in the last week or two; two copies.

I got The Advanced Bestiary at the one in Mesquite on Sunday.
I make the rounds....I try to get up to NW Highway once every week or two. I've never seen a Pathfinder product there, and I've only rarely seen Dungeon magazine; Dragon a little more frequently.
Somebody'll sell their collection, and those will get snapped right up.

Advanced Bestiary!!!! Arrrgh!
Sweet score for you. NW Hwy is historically the best, but I've been there a few times that it was amazingly dry, and except for the great Fantasy Flight dump, I'd say that in the new year it's been less game reliable. Two or three years ago, there used to be a heaping ton of old Dragons and old modules there, but they just all suddenly disappeared. I wonder if they were slow movers so they were cleared and have never recovered?

Yeah, every time I've gone to Mesquite, I've felt that either I'm there at a lucky time, or there's definitely more gamers in that area (I'd probably say the same thing about Arlington.)

I did get a respectable stack of 3.x Dragons at Paperbacks Plus. The game stock there is very slow, but God bless 'em for giving trade.

A friend got me the Midnight Campaign Setting (updated version), in perfect condition, retail price $49.99, from Half Price Books for...$7.98. That's like Sixth Price Books!

This was the one closest to me when I lived there. Great store :)

The Great FFG Dump of 09!

You should be able to find more if you want it, HD.

They have multiples of all of the supplements, but my employment situation forbids me from taking advantage. The soft covers are all going for $3.98. Hopefully I get to start the new job Monday, and they'll still be there on my first payday :)

Good luck, HD. I've been wondering what was happening with you. Sounds like good things now.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, things are looking up. :)

It was a good test to see where my mind is at, though, and how committed I am to playing it straight.

GOOD. Very good.

Sounds great Derek. Btw, did you and your gf get back together?

Congratulations! I shall pray to your faith based entity of choice or none at all for you.

Bob Dobbins works, I've been complimented on my generous level of "slack".

That is a touch and go thing right now. Hopefully everything works out, I love this woman more than I thought I could love anyone.

A pretty good reason to try and work it out.
The Brotherhood of Man is pulling for you, HD.

Last time this thread reared its beautiful head, I lived nowhere near a Half-Priced Books. Today, however, that sweet nectarish store is mine to peruse!

Dark Archive

Any known in the Frederick Maryland area? All we got that I know of is Wonder Book and video. We have the big warehouse here.

I have never had a problem with cats in second-hand book stores. Cats in second hand record stores are another matter; the one in my local shop (before it closed down) was a vicious, ill tempered, white haired little bugger which peed everywhere.

Or maybe that was the owner. I can't remember.

On another note, one of my favourite places on earth

A town full of second-hand book shops, lurking somewhere on the Welsh/English border.

It's hard to beat The Strand in Manhattan.

There's a very decent local used bookstore on the pedestrian mall in Ithacs, NY called "Autumn Leaves." I make a point to drop on there whenever I'm in the area.

Also in Ithaca is their annual Friends of the Library Book Sale. That one is worth camping out for!

I picked up a VG copy of the rare 1980 first edition of TSR's Deities and Demigods for $10 a few years ago...the one that included the unlicensed Cthulhu and Elric material!
