Erizi the Landless |
FW. Glad you're feeling better Erizi and Stefnir missed you.
FYI - Any future illnesses and or injuries should be cleared through your players before occurring.

I'm back but be gentle with me. Thank you Brett for your help when it counted. As for the operation it went well and the NHS did a fine job of caring for me. The unfortunate bit was that it happened during my lads weekend, something which we do only once or twice a year. That did mean that I had help at home when I collapsed in the middle of the night though.
Felliped takes little part in the discussions for what to do. He does notice that Nombir is still asleep and asks if he needs to be woken?
Felliped is meant to be a replacement character, in case of accidents but with six of you in the party I would rather conveniently sideline him with exhaustion. Meanwhile it's up to you to decide what to do next. However because we haven't played for a while, I'll hint that Undrella the harpy may need more specific instructions than she has at the moment.
Livvy Goldenscale |
Just to pile on, I'm glad to have you back, FW. Glad you had friends around when you needed them.
As Livvy's initial excitement at everybody's return wanes, she realizes that she's been up for a very long time. Yawning, she says, "I need to get some sleep. My watch is pretty much over."
She will wake up Zaid to take his watch, explain that the others are back, including Feliped, and crawl into her nest before falling asleep rather quickly.
French Wolf |
I appreciate all the well wishing comments, gentlemen, its part of why I like this community.
When Livvy turns in, she falls asleep next to Nombir and Felliped, leaving Zaid and the scouts awake.
The party hasn't done a great deal today and it isn't even midnight yet. The patrol will happen in less than an hour, if Felliped is right. If Zaid intends to speak with Undrella again I will handwave that as done just to speed things up a bit. The question is do you decide to take on the patrol or not?
Erizi the Landless |
You know Erizi's answer without having to ask. He will be jumping up and down and turning circles like a dog waiting to go outside for a walk.
Erizi the Landless |
Shimei volunteers to stay up and keep watch untiL Norn and Erizi return.
I don't think SHimei used any spells yesterday. His selection is not optimal for combat, but I can live with it.
"Shimei, you do not wish to take on the patrol"? "I am much surprised at your cowardice", Erizi looks at the man with a frown. "Still I don't mind so much taking all the Glory as my own...well I mean as mine and Norn's".
He then looks approvingly at the small halfling, "Your heart is much bigger than it appears". Then hefting Tempest he waits for Norn to lead the way with her superior senses...him right on her tail.
Shimei of Merraketh |
Shimei scowls. Erizi's words hurt, more so than normally because attacking the patrol is exactly what he wants to do. Attack the patrol, then melt into the mountains for a day or two. Against superior numbers you must be mobile and take what advantage you can find, and never get into a pitched battle. It is the way he has always fought the hyena-men. Yet here he is waiting for close combat on the morrow. He hopes the others are up to the challenge.
Erizi does know he's going on a diplomatic mission right?

I believe the meeting with Undrella was hand waved according to FW's above post. This encounter was for encountering the Patrol which is a combat encounter...am I confused somehow?
Shimei of Merraketh |
Shimei pulls out his rag and oil and begins rubbing his bow.
OK. We're hitting the patrol; we can mobilize Undrella at will. My bad. Are we going to wake up Nombir and Livvy? Can Zaid really prep spells on a couple hours tops rest? Even if he can and Nombir can pray for spells? Is out plan to smack the patrol, wait here until dawn and then take on the rest of the (12-18) gnolls at dawn?
French Wolf |
No one can prepare spells without eight hours sleep so the party needs to rest before they can rely on those magicks.
Zaid on watch sees a light blossom at the ground level of the battle market high up in the village. He can just make out the fuzzy shadows of a humanoid moving across the light before everything goes dark again.
Shimei of Merraketh |
Talking OOC to speed things up. FW, is there time left tonight for the casters to rest and prep new spells?
I really don't want a major combat (battle market) without everyone full up on hit points and spells. I do think we could handle the patrol now, even if Zaid is out of spells.
So, If we're hitting the patrol, let's do it and get out of town. We can stop by Undrella's on the way and tell her that we'll attack the gnolls at the next dawn, not this one. We spend the rest of the night and a nice full day in the hills, rest up and we'll be in top form when we hit the battlemarket the next morning. Yes?
I'll roll with what the party wants to do, but it feels like we're drifting here. We need a plan.

I agree. Sounds like a good plan to me. Let's get the ball rolling again, we've got a good group here, and things seem to be settling down

Dawn comes early in the desert, too early for enough rest. It does sound more sensible than trying to bulldoze your way through the village (not that that was everyone's plan). Conserving and using your spells well is going to be very important because each night of hit and run brings its own risks. You may want to wake Nombir so that he can post his views too...
Shimei of Merraketh |
Shimei seems to find some inner guidance. He stands and nudges Nombir and Livvy awake. "Erizi wants to attack the patrol and decries the courage of those who will not. I say the dragon may swallow his prey whole, but the griffon eats his in small bites and so does not choke on it. Erizi's plan is wise."
Livvy Goldenscale |
Livvy stretches and yawns although she's really not been asleep on that long. Her eyes are bright and her smile gets a little sinister after she listens to Shimei.
*yawn* "I'm in. What do we know of the patrols?" She looks over at Fel, growing more intense as the thinks out loud. "Do we know their route, their number, their makeup? Can we expect those that rely on strength, or is there an intelligent hand among them? A spellcaster, perhaps? Do they send their pups out to patrol at night while the older dogs sleep? Or do they send the experienced wardogs out and keep the pups inside after dark?"
She starts ticking off ideas on her tiny fingers, "I can provide bait for the patrol in the form of my will o' wisp lights (aka Dancing Lights). If I'm close enough, I can bring the flames, but better, I can make Erizi and Tempest so large as to frighten all but the most resolute gnoll to death in his tracks. I feel the energy to do so is still within me today. And, of course, I can throw acid at them -- maybe forever, I haven't tried. It just doesn't seem to wear me out to do that small trick like the flames always do."
Eyes brightly considering the warriors among the group, "So what's the plan? How can I help?"
Gnoll Killer trait rears its ugly head. She's a bit of a hater, but she's picky as to who she hates.
Erizi the Landless |
Erizi quizzically turns his head and looks at Nombir, as he throws a piece of scrap meat that even he couldn't chew to dog.
"Why that is simple...First Livvy is right...they are gnolls". "Secondly, the more we take out now, the less will be there when we finally take them on in their stronghold". He then turns to look at dog as the mutts strong teeth begin to soften the morsel, wondering if he could get it back without being bitten himself.
Shimei of Merraketh |
"We will not be at full strength at dawn. Zaid's spells are depleted. And we will be facing two dozen gnolls or more. It is beyond us."
"The patrol is a smaller target that we can bleed tonight. Then we retire, rest, and return on the second dawn to face a weaker foe than we would face this morning. "
Nombir Kadesh |
"Very well Shimei. You scouted the area, so I'll trust your judgement yet again. I'm ready when you are, but we must spare none of the patrol to raise the alarm. We need to kill quickly and as silently as possible". Nombir looks seriously at Erizi this time, knowing that the big man and quiet don't normally go together! "Did you see any ambush sites during your recce?"
French Wolf |
I'll throw you a bone, Felliped will have already described the route a patrol takes. They come down the main street do a circuit of the village inside the river past the slave market first and then heading up and back around before finally checking in at tannery and the other building over the bridge. After that back up to the battle market.
Shimei of Merraketh |
What we know so far -- (FW please correct any errors)
B1 -- ex-snake home (slave market)
B2 -- Giant Boar
B3-B5 Norn found nothing except Felliped
B6 -- Undrella
B7 -- thing that gets fedB9 -- gnoll watchers
B11 Battle-market
Pesh trap north of B11?
Shimei goes to the doorway. "I think we should attack them about there." Points toward B3. "They will be hidden from the tower, cut off from the battle market, and if they flee we should have time for a couple bowshots before they can turn toward their friends."
Shimei of Merraketh |
"Leave your extra goods here. Follow me. Be silent." Shimei leads the way out of the slave market and into the ruined building nearby. He indicates they should hide in the rubble and fire on the gnolls or charge them when they are directly in front.
Hide in the ruined building between B1 and B3. When the gnolls come along the road, attack them just as they come between B3 and our hiding place. Stealthy PCs to our left; less stealthy ones, to our right.
