The ragged man runs in a zig-zag pattern on the Fall's mainway, though it seems more like he is trying to make his mind up rather than pure evasion. He suddenly comes to a sliding stop in front of small building that has a store-front facade. His eyes are fixed on the what looks to be more fetishes dangling on the porch-like covered entrance.

He dashes there and yanks down one of the fetishes. He collapses to the ground, clutching it, and begins a strangled wail.

As you get closer you see that he is holding a bag-shaped human head! The other four hanging on the entryway are heads with stretched faces. Eyes, nose and mouth are sewn shut. Three men and a woman have had their heads turned into bags, now hanging by their hair. The original fetishes are on the ground and the burst contents have been trampled.

I apologize. The H1N1 outbreak has got emergency services pretty busy right now. Thanks for hanging on.

Male Human Ranger 1

Glad you're here! I figured it was something like that.

Garyn clenches his jaw, rushing after the man and Nye. Quickly catching up, he stands over the distraught man, eyes flitting across the small settlement.

Perception check - 1d20+13=29

"Someone see if this man is all right," Garyn hisses, "and by the Gods quiet him down before he brings every creature and animal in the woods down on us."

Bartleby growls at the shadows, his keen senses picking up things no human can. "I know, boy," Garyn whispers, "I feel them out there, too."

Kumal nudges the wailing man with his boot. "Quiet, fool," he hisses. "You'll bring all of the hordes of hell down on us! Silence yourself, or by Gorum I'll varnish the floor with your brains!"

Intimidate check to quiet the madman: 1d20 (14) + 13 = 27

Looking up at the fetishes, Kumals scowls in disgust. With a single swing of his greatsword, he cuts the dangling horrors down.

"What madness is this?" It's obvious the barbarian's words are his thoughts spoken aloud.

Kerl motions the miners to stay back. Scanning the building as he walks down the road.

Perception 1d20+10=19

Kerl stares at the heads for a moment. Someone has sent us a message. They claim this town for themselves.
Kerl glances at his companions. I think we will reply in person.

"Easy Kumal, can't you see the horror this mans faced." Nye approaches the man speaking evenly, Well met freind, we are here to help. What evil has befalen this place."

When Nye speaks, Kumal grunts audibly and shakes his head as if to dimiss himself from the terrified man's plight.

"As you wish, gnome," he says. "I have no talent for soothing words or soft caresses." With that, he turns his attention back to guarding his comrades from any new threat.

Male Dwarf Fighter 3

Eyes scanning for any dangers Thurgar listens to his partners speak.

He mutters audibly, "First frozen undead, now, whatever in the hells this is. Here I thought maybe a few bandits or a dire wolf were going to be the biggest issues on this job."

He follows the others staying alert for movement.

The ragged man's breath catches and he stops wailing. One arm cradling the head, he uses his other hand to try to brush the hair off of the face while he weeps.

He starts calming down and begins looking around at the ground. He finds a small stick and starts scratching at the ground. He draws a stick figure and a larger stick figure standing over the first. Then he draws what looks like a large hill over a small hill.

His hand starts to tremble and he scrawls "L A Z". He drops the stick and passes out.

Nye make a Perception check

Perception Check (1d20+6=15) ;17 if smell of touch is a factor.

Male Dwarf Fighter 3

Thurgar looks down at the unconscious man.

"Poor wretch. He's seen a lot," Thurgar's eyes flick to the trophies hanging around.

"L A Z.... I've never been good at spelling? Anyone know what it could mean?"

Human is big one dwarf is small one. Worry about rest later. For now we should get off the road. Kerl considers entering the shop but decides against it. His tribe would have trapped it. He looks at the other buildings that are nearby.

What other buildings are nearby?

A tingling sensation runs across Nye's scalp. He can feel a very weak assault on his mind that is effortlessly repulsed. Nye notices the others around him either yawning or stifling a yawn.

Kerl wrote:

Most everyone is in front of a small shop that has a sign with a "Z" on it.

To the north are two large cabins joined by a lean-to, the largest building in the Falls which probably makes it the inn. Next to it solid wooden stables that could hold up to eight horses.

Log cabins bracket the north and south between the inn and shop to the west and the tablerock to the east. The inn and shop obscure the view to other buildings further west.

"Foul magic is trying to corupt our minds, see how your all suddenly tired. We must get him somewhere safe and try to revive him, then we can get some answers as to what is going on here. My first thought is the Inn, but that may not be safe."

Male Human Ranger 1

"I would almost rather find a place outdoors. It would give us more avenues of escape, rather than being trapped in one of these buildings. I say we take him away from this place, regroup, and investigate in the morning when there is light."

Garyn's eyes dart around.

"Whatever we do, we must do quickly. We aren't safe here."

I agree speed is best. Kerl leans over and slaps the sleeping human ON YOUR FEET

It that does not wake him up

Normally that works Kerl grabs an arm and motions to Garyn to grab the other one.

Male Human Ranger 1

Garyn grabs the other arm, and not unkindly pulls the man to his feet.

"Come friend," he whispers to the man. "There will be time for mourning later. If we don't move now, we'll be the deceased rather than the bereaved."

Garyn glances at his companions, waiting on their agreement before going to ground.

"Right then let's get him out of here." Nye nods in agreement and starts to follow the others and then turns back to study the building and the headbags muttering, "Rilevi la magia."

Kumal nods his head in agreement. He then sheaths his greatsword and draws forth his composite bow.

"Lead on then," he says to Garyn. "I'll bring up the rear this time and guard our backs."

Kerl wrote:

The ragged man grunts from the blow and his eyes snap open. He looks around, wide-eyed, then he relaxes. He struggles to his feet but never lets go of the head.

Nye notices there is more to the headbags than just decoration but without examining them closer he can't tell what.

As the last syllable is spoken Nye can feel the immediate area is awash with the fading magic of a recently cast spell.

"I think someone or something might be trying to enchant us, we need to get moving." Nye runs back to the porch and gathers up the heads that were cut down, "There is something about these I just can't figure out right now, I'm going to bring them for closer examination."

Once the man gets on his feet Kerls leads him back to the miners. Looking at miners We are not staying. He starts moving back out of town.

Male Human Ranger 1

Garyn stalks thirty to forty feet in front of the group, eyes still flitting in all directions, looking for any unseen threat and ultimately trying to find a defensible place to spend the remaining hours of darkness. He leaves Barleby with the group to stay by the side of the man they just "rescued" and to keep him moving if he tries to stop.

Handle animal check(to get Bartleby to perform the complex action) - 1d20+8=27

Survival check(to find a defensible location) - 1d20+13=18

Perception check(to avoid getting ambushed) - 1d20+13=23

Stealth check(to avoid being seen) - 1d20+13=17

Phew! That was a lot of rolling.
