My husband downloaded the PDF and I've gotten to go through it (I've claimed GMing rights <G>). I don't particularly like reading PDFs (I'm old-fashioned and want a book in my hand) but what I have read is mmm-mmm-good! Good flow of action and RPing, love Rombard!, love the monster choices and new goodies ... and the whole look of the book is gorgeous!!

Channa Ti's story is such a tease -- I already want more ::laughing::

Very Happy GM diving back in to read more :)

So far, I only read the first part, but I think it's very well built:
- It gives enough time for the PC's to already know one another.
- It gives a good reason for them to be in an adventuring group in the first place.
- It gives the chance for some action right away at the start.
- It gives the chance for each character to make a choice between several ways to help in the situation, which helps define the characters better right from the start.
- And then, the PC's get to meet the NPC's a few at a time, as they perform the investigation, so it flows naturally. Also, during the investigation, the PC's will interact with each other as they might reach different conclusions about the culprit's identity: right off the bat, it gives good role-playing opportunities.

I find that it's a really good introduction to an adventure... very well structured!

I gotta say, I really liked that bit. As well as developments with several later NPCs possibly going any number of ways right out of the box.

I went a little wide in the eye at the end though.

Spoiler:
A year of downtime? I know it's not unheard of peoples' campaigns, but given how "on-a-schedule" the previous APs seemed at times, I wasn't expecting this. I'm eager to see what people do with it.

Thank you. This is exactly as I intended it when putting together the adventure.

You should put the writer's cap on more often Eric. I'm not sure how, but I'm going to run this adventure A.S.A.P.

The year downtime was one of my favorite parts. Frankly my group is tired of always being on the run in between adventures and not having time to use item creation feats, crafting or develop their characters in other ways. This was PERFECT for this and I love the rewards based on what the character would like to work on as well.

Great stuff!!!

I would have to second the other posters request for more Erik Mona written adventures... this is great stuff.

My only sadness ... how long it'll be before I get to run it! (only one sixth done with Crimson Throne) Oh, well, I'll have all the fun of reading and plotting and getting my notes and additions in perfect order :)

We've always held that, despite the fact that AP adventures come out once a month, you don't have to play them at that rate. We actually try to keep the links between adventures relatively variable, so that you can technically take a year of downtime between most of them. Curse of the Crimson Throne could certainly take years or even decades to play out if you wanted it to.

But with "Howl of the Carrion King," we wanted to hard-wire it into the adventure rather than leave it subtle. I'm eager to hear what people think about it!

I haven't read it yet as my wife has decided to run the AP, after I finish my CotCT game. All I can hear from her though is that she really likes it. I am actually pleased that when we play it I get first stab at character choice, as it seems no one wants to play the healer. I have so many options, but I am leaning towards a ranger or a cleric, but I'll see how everyone else wants to play.

I prefer subtle myself since I don't like advancing the timeline in my setting to much.

I liked the suggestions on what PCs might spend their year doing.

If only it weren't a 2 hr drive...

I really liked the time-jump. The "from commoner to archmage in three months" issue with the fast advancement of 3.x is somewhat troublesome for modeling traditional fantasy, and having a time-skip is a neat way to handle it. Sort of like how Empire Strikes Back starts three years after A New Hope. Same characters, but they've matured a bit, even if their skill sets aren't necessarily better.

But when you're done you can keep driving west to go see your girlfriend...
