I am coming to PaizoCon. I am in Seattle.
Frickin' Seattle dude!
I can care less that I am in a hotel room, listening to the droll of the A/C or seeing the sites. I don't want to be introducing myself to people who are interested in someone else. I really want to fall into the right groove. I want to be special to the people that need someone special.
If that doesn't happen, well.... I want to end up in a strip bar with James Jacobs or getting baked with Erik Mona. I want this to be a life changing experience that is totally bizarre. In any event, you get my point. I am out there for total insanity. It is anything goes.
But if anything, I am completely ignorable. I am background.
By nature, I am a wholesome creature. I love to play D&D...or as I call it in Minnesota, Dorkin'. In any event, this trip is special to me. I have played RPGs in my past with fond memories. I have dreamed since I was a kid to visit GenCon (back when it was in Geneva Wisconsin). I love Paizo. It is the anti-idea of corporations that I see in daily life.
I am a sane, normal person. I don't expect anything to come from this, but I carry the hope.
Almost exactly 3 months from now I will be there. I will be in my hotel room thinking that there is so much ahead of me, but doubting that I really know anyone downstairs at all. I will feel totally nervous and scared, but at the same time wonder at the possibilities.
Events.
Games.
People.
Can it really live up to whatever expectation I have? Does anyone care about me there? Do I have a place? A place that I will belong?
After that weekend, Paizo employees return back to work after an exhaustive weekend. Was I really there in their minds? Do they know me or do they care? Out of 250 people to please, how can I stand out. How can I be....visible.
And that is where I am. Wondering.
I better bring something special. I better change people's lives, if I don't in fact change myself.

Wow. And I thought I was excited for PaizoCon again.....
;-)
I'll share a little something with you, here. You are going to meet a whole lot of great people. I mean, hey, the first PaizoCon had maybe 50 people in the room, and while I tried to meet each and every one of them, I certainly didn't get to spend a lot of time with everyone.
Yet, I know them now. Grimcleaver and Waltero, and Lilith and Ed Healy, and Zoomackulas, Zootcat, and blazej, and Dario are now more than just folks I chat with via posts or the chatroom. I've met them, I've gamed with them, and I've shared a great time with them.
And that goes for Paizo folks and the many great contributors, too. We all got to sit down and ask them questions, we got to game with them, and we got to have lots of friendly chats both ways.
What makes PaizoCon special is that it's more....personal. Everyone has a good chance to meet lots of folks and to enjoy themselves. You get the superb chance to put a face to the name, and make new friends that you'll look forward to seeing again next Con.
Go into PaizoCon with those expectations, and you won't be disappointed, I assure you.

Strip bar? Last time I was in Seattle, the guy at the one bar I hit told me that I would have to kick down to Portland to find a good club.
He said something about a place called "The Lusty Lady", though ...
The best part is that the Lusty Lady is directly across the street from the art museum. I so want them to build a skybridge...
There's also the Déjà Vu, which advertises "50 beautiful women and three ugly ones."

Heh heh ... typical strip bar fare ... 3 ugly girls before you're wasted, 50 beautiful women when you're wasted...

In Florida there is Megacon which I thought from the name meant everything a nerd would want in a con, so I went, nope nothing but comics of which I only have a mild interest and anime in which I have little to no interest. such a big dissapointment, the only stand that I found interesting was the chessex stand. Now unless I get lucky, I'm not going to be going to paizocon, but it is basically what I dream a con to be.
I want to get baked and talk politics with mona, that would be fun.

I think you're looking for the bar a few blocks away that used to advertise their "beers on tap" selection as "50 imported beers and 3 American ones."

That could get me to a bar. Although Washington and Oregon have plenty of distinguished taps that would flow through a bar I owned or just occasionally visited.

Haha, I want to. But, I just don't know that I could. I could easily get out there... it's just a place to stay and all that.
I probably wont.. I'll just go to GenCon :(
