Stormrunner |
Not my own, but still a personal favorite:
WerewolfTheApocalypse Ragabash named Runs-With-Scissors
A couple of my first D&D chars (not the absolute first, but the only ones I remember from that period) were a brother-sister pair of lizardfolk, thief and wizard respectively, named Sneaky and Snakey. Sneaky got killed off rather quickly, but Snakey lived and was reincarnated through many versions and game systems.
Stormrunner ("She who loves to gallop through the wind and rain"), female centaur ranger, and her lover Thunderdancer ("Thunder of dancing hooves upon the earth"), female centaur barbarian.
Squirrel Girl, Champions superhero. Wallcrawling and gliding, super-balance and dexterity, could summon hordes of attack squirrels or trip foes up with an avalanche of nuts underfoot. A fun name to shout - "Fall before the might of ... SQUIRRRELLL GIRRRLLLL!!!!!"

A few from my own roleplaying experiences:
-Jav Brunner (infiltrator/merc in Star Wars, referred to as "Blondie" because of his platinum-blond hair)
-Damien Losator (first character I played (and still play) in the Star Wars Club PbP game, New Republic starfighter pilot)
-Elise Cannon (xenobiologist/scout, again from SWC)
-Tancred (Dark Paladin I played in an evil D&D campaign one of my friends ran in high school; totally swiped the name from the Undead Slayer in Warhammer)
-Elan Winterblade (Paladin I played with a D&D group in Korea; I ended up creating him after the ranger I made died)

Some of my faves from years past:
Whichway Dideego (AD&D fighter/theif) who had a nefarious uncle named Lifter Lendfence.
Izzit Reallythere (AD&D illusionist who had 35 prisms hanging off of his clothes that he would use to fascinate ppl)
There are many others...but these are the ones that are most dear to my heart. :)
Luncelot |
The NPC's
Molly the Bar Rag (Every town we ever went to had a Molly, and you never knew what you would get from her, spin the wheel of V-D)
Timmy the Kolbold, we never could figure out how to kill him...so eventually we put him in an iron box and left him for dead on a island
That moth&$^%#$%#$^%^ whole stole my #$%^ing belt, A halfing who had a penchant for stealing a party members belt. Nothing else...just the belt.
Ballcap Shatterknee, a permanently reduced hill giant (Under 3 feet tall, but still had full strength) always called shots to people knees with a +3 hammer. Not a war hammer but a regular hammer.
Boomstick, a force mage who liked to fireball things from the back of a Wemic PC, mainly cause if he didn’t the Wemic would kill him.
The PC’s
The Welcome Mat, (from West End Star Wars) he was a Wookie who got our party in trouble with the imperials and got us arrested, I ask what the Imperials took from us. Comlinks, weapons and such, but left us with all our personal gear, like the three cans of spray paint my character had on him for no reason, and walked over to the stunned and stupefied wookie that was dropped right in front of the door and sprayed WELCOME across his back. (As a note, it is not the best to make your GM who has a torn diaphragm laugh so hard she passes out. And it was the whole session not just this one part)
Hmmm drawing a blank on some more, I am sure to have more to post after this weekend
Eyebite RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 |
First D&D game I ever played in, I was probably about 11.
My friend had a character named Sir Departure, a take-off on Sir Arthur. Sir Departure was a guy dressed in green tights, like the old Robin Hood features, that teleported frequently. Often against his own will. Like, for example, when he sneezed. Or when he was scared. Or when his friends needed him most. He couldn't control his teleportations either, so he frequently fell from a few feet in the air to land on his rear end, or teleported on top of or into any number of compromising positions.
Really fun character.
Kata. the ..... |
I played a character a few years ago named Count Alucard, the name stolen from the Lon Chaney Jr. film Son of Dracula. And, of course, Kata the ... is not completely independently developed.
drayen |
Maoilsheachlainn SerbhisheachnaDia was a character of mine in the Dark Age of Camelot MMO. My guildmates proclaimed him to have an eight second name stun because I could place him in the entrance to a zone and just watch the toons running past stop, take a few steps back and slowly pan from left to right as the player tried to read the name across their monitor.
Not my name, but we played on the evil side of Xendrik and one of my friends played a CE gnome bard who was embittered by the world and self-loathing to boot. Sprinkles Sphinctertinkle was truly a bitter little bastard.

I'm personally a huge fan of Norse mythology and its names: Hrimfaxi, Hresvelgr, Fimbulvetr... Celtic folklore gives us names such as Leanan Sidhe, Taranis, Llŷr... Mythology and lore in general has many gems in regards of names.
The two most memorable character names I've used are Flix Flickerflame (gnome wizard) and Eir Sagasdottir (human cleric, played as a valkyrie/summoner). They're not as epic as some of the other names in this thread, though...
Other honourable mentions: Helm Hammerhand (LotR), Roxas (KH2), the entire Organisation XIII in general (with particular mention to Lexaeus and Luxord)...
And then there's names that are so bad, they're borderline good:
Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way (because who doesn't love My Immortal?)
Malafaxous |
VtM: Malkavian. "Schmuckman-Defender-of-Truth-Justice-and-That-Guy-Over-There"
WtA: A Seer named "Noone of Importance"
Minotaur: Lactose The Intolerant
And of course the string of characters for a splatterhouse champaign I trudged through with names from MST3K:
"Butch Deadlift"
"Gristle McThornbody"
"Speedy McRunfast"
...

Favorite of my own PC's:
Dipthong Polyglot Syllable Tomas d'Sivis. Nicknamed "Dip," he was an evil gnome Beguiler from House Sivis (Eberron Dragonmarked house). Super fun to play, and talked his way into, and out of, so much trouble it was ridiculous.
One of my regular players consistently names his PCs after pharmaceuticals, which make surprisingly good names. It's not so odd, when you consider he works in a pharmacy.
A. Seeto-Minofen was one example (Acetominophen/Tylenol)
Pan |
Had a player show up with a character named "Rimmer James Dio"
Turns out to be a combination of a character he loves from Terry Brooks Shannara series and one of his favorite singers of course Dio. I took up the same theme later with a character named Shea Lynn Turner :)
At the risk of being flamed to death Ill tell a little MMO story I think is hilarious. We decided to play DDO so we brought our character names over. One night this guy kept sending me tells asking to join our group. I let him in and he started raving about our rock star names. He then started playing rainbow in the dark over the voice chat was frickin awesome!
the xiao |
Jerome Van Drake, Wizard dragon hunter
Julius Pyre, Fire genasi fire elementalist
Jaiden Lee, Bruce Lee Clone
Mengrai Sit Hirun, Rakasta martial Artist
Diomedes Kain, Chaotic Good holy warrior
Ciaroscuro, blade kit half-elf bard/fighter
many others... last time I counted I had like 100+ PC from a variety of genres...
Maybe I got late to the wine discussion, but once in an Alternity game we had:
Jack Daniels, gambler
Agent Smirnoff, spy
Appleton, a stereotype afro-american engineer
William Lawson, law-keeper combat spec
That campaign was the sh!t, we won a spaceship in a raffle with 1'000,000 chance having bought only one ticket XD
Foghammer |
I am a big fan of Dragon Age: Origins' Aeducan family name.
Azariah "Flametongue" Nilmeathauke - Goliath Dragon Shaman - His tribe was enslaved by warforged, and he lashed out at his tribe for not resisting more than they did. They shunned him so he escaped and abandoned them to their fate. "Flametongue" is less of an honorific name than a reminder of the hateful things he said to them before he ran away.
Tanegar - Dwarf Druid - The real awesome part was his animal companion: a brixashulty (a ram) named Skull-Hammer.
Thurgen Aenstan - Dwarf Fighter - Total BAMF. He punched a manticore in the face for a killing blow. He was also good with the ladies. Served in the military.
Abigail Warwick - Human Rogue - A young girl who gets by on her feminine wiles. Rolled a 17 (out of 20) for her comeliness and maxed out her Charisma (20) and bumped her Intelligence (18, after putting a point into it).
Erystiphone - Random Name - I made this name up for a story I wanted to write at one time. Trying to pronounce it should sound like "heiress-tiffany" kind of run together. A bit of a bastardization of Erinyes and Persephone. I thought it sounded unique and elegant.
Elisar "Foghammer" Rainwell - Night Elf Warrior - Yeah. I played WoW for a while. I sucked at the game, but I liked the concepts and environments, and I tried to role-play, but there were WAYYY too many vampire cat-girls and weeaboos. I finally quit when I got to level 70. Foghammer ([dis]affectionately known as Foggy or Froghammer to many people on my server) was still a badass. I miss him, occasionally.
So many good names...
Twigs |
I am a big fan of Dragon Age: Origins' Aeducan family name.
Man, me too. I've played the origin at least ten times. I think it's just to hear Gorim call me "My Lord Aeducan" again...
As for me. It's up there. Twigs has been my favourite character name. We were actually really stumped... until...
"You just have to give him a name, like... like Twigs, yeah? Then give absolutely no explanation why."
He'd go on to be my most memorable PCs. He's just recently been coup-de-graced in Acheron (shortly before escaping) and has been captured by Mephistopholes, who legally owns his soul. Though with his 60ft. movement speed, I can hopefully escape in due time.
Many of my characters names border on the ridiculous. I tend to favour the option that's hilarious yet strangely fitting, and I've had a lot of luck finding them. Here're a few others:
Of the rest of my gaming group, two stand out.
___
... and I'm spent. Forgive me the wall of text.

NO JOKE! Best part of that whole game: dwarf noble origin story. Loved it.
A more recent addition to the list of names I find interesting... not sure if I would go so far as to say one the best ever, but it makes me smirk. Okay not really. One of my roommates came up with this one.
Tripim Salvostorm, a force missile caster-y guy. Tripim = Triple M = Macross Missile Massacre, which supposedly comes from the fan base, describing the massive barrage of missiles fired off by a single mecha in the Macross saga. Salvostorm, well... yeah.
It's so cheesy. XD

Perth Broadmoor was the name of my first Artificer when Eberron came out. I picked his names (first and last) off street signs on my way home from work one day. I think the name just fits.
In the same campaign, one of the players is notorious for never coming up with names for his characters. In this particular campaign, he was a Warforged Paladin who used a Scythe, so the DM gave him a name, telling him people called him "Grim". I shook my head, glanced at the first word I saw on my character sheet, and from that point on my character referred to him as "Walking Stick". Everyone else tried to call him by his DM-assigned name, but I never let up, and by the fourth or fifth adventure, his name was indeed Walking Stick. I felt a personal victory over that one.
The black raven |
"Strength 101" was how we called my Easterling in MERP that I never took the time to name, certain that he would die as quickly as my previous characters.
Mind you, a Strength of 101 (equivalent to the good old 18/00) was not specific around my gaming table. We bursted out laughing when we realized that the guy with Strength 97 was the weakest character in the group. Good Old Times.

A player in one of my games played a gnome illusionist who made a living as a traveling stage magician named "The Mystery of Inky Strange". Yes, that whole thing. Anyone who just called him Inky Strange was likely to "volunteer" for one his magic tricks...
Slightly off topic, but one of my players in Kingmaker is a bard/ranger who goes by the code name Sky; his true name (and allegiance for that matter) is a closely guarded secret. When the party came close to blowing his cover, he pulled an amazing double-bluff (bluffing the players as well as the characters) and somehow managed to convince the party that his name was Arthur Pendragon without ~anyone~ recognizing the name and calling his bluff.
Same game has a dwarven druid named Vorn Goldschlager.
Shadrayl of the Mountain |
I tend to be rather fond of the names of all my favorite chars., the top 3 being:
1.Wiuxiu Xookaer, a Wizard/Elemental Savant- who also happens to be a bit insane
2.Dvorn Drokkerin, a ranger whose character name is written on the sheet in actual runes
3.Shadrayl of the Mountain, the Warblade that I play in Rise of the Runelords.

I was very impressed with myself when I named my goblin paladin Doodlebug Anklebiter.
This was years before Paizo and the Korvosa (?) book, so when I discovered that "Anklebiter" has deviant sexual connotations in Golarion, I was like, bonus!
That's just awesome. :) And for a paladin, too-priceless!
Reebo Kesh |

When I name character in games, there's always one Magnus Hellborg. I have a conjurer in society by that name, chaos warrior in Blood Bowl, and both of my characters in Dragon age:origins and Dragon Age 2 are Magnus. Its funny. Also, my first Pathfinder ever was named Kraven Blackmoor, tribute to the Kraven the hunter. And just recently I made a concept of show-off Alchemist entertainer named "the great Milenko". Ocham-named necromancer who wields razor, hmm?

Tiny Coffee Golem |
It's World of Warcraft, but I could never play a character unless I liked the name. A few of my favorites some mine some not.
Human Target ( human mage)
Ice Hole (Gnome mage)
Stemcel (druid)
WezyJfrsn (paladin) *Weezy Jefferson*
Glamazon (NE Hunter)
Hoofbeat (Tauren Fighter)
Churchlady (Dwarf Female Cleric)
XWife (Undead cleric)
Juwana (UD Warlock) *as in Juwana Mann or Juwana Fanta*
That's all that come to mind now.
Twigs |
A Dwarf Fighter, "Axebeard Stonehammer" was my close second...
My all-time favourite (both for the name and just as a really fun character to play)-a Mite Cave Druid named: Bocephus Stinkeye!
Oh man, dwarf names are fun. For some reason I can only come up with the most ridiculous clan names though. Bolric Brassbottom, Holgir Hammercheeks, Golrim Goblinsquasher. Something of a recurring theme here, I think.
It's World of Warcraft, but I could never play a character unless I liked the name. A few of my favorites some mine some not.
Oh man, WoW always got the best character names out of me. Unfortunately the RP servers were dead at Aussie hours (and apparently so around the clock, too.)
I would've loved to play a pair of forsaken. "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern."
And I always had a lot of fun with Gnome names, usually about as cheezy as my dwarf ones above. I'd take a peek if I could, but sadly I dont think I can run WoW anymore.
