I ask the same one word question each Klingon child asks as he learns his first words: Makar ?! (Tactical situation?)

Spoiler:
I'm still very much enjoying this pbp !

“I thought I said an out right charge would be a bad thing.” She sighs as magic starts being thrown. She holds up her bow and focuses on her comrades. “Erastil guide us.”

Me as well ... you are the voice of reason, temperance and moderation, the rest of the party are the yelping chorous of mayhem, chaotic charges and blood lust (hey that's what PCs do) ... I guess to each his own ... Fortune favours the Brave (and the Reckless).

I wonder is yeti fur would be good as triming on a cloak ... fashion first !

Hehe, no party would be complete without the brash and the rash to ruin the plans of the cautious and drive 'em crazy! And every stealthy group must have at least one tank who clanks like the ghost of Jacob Marley, and every highly intelligent group must have the one rogue who hides in shadows while holding a lit torch! It just wouldn't be D&D otherwise!

Diego's and Hans' attacks strike true (since you only have to hit his Touch AC for those, and he has his back to you so he doesn't have his Dex bonus during the surprise round).

Who is using the Oathbow? If either Sevegny or Red Feather is using it, that shot will hit, but the other will miss. If neither are using it, then both shots miss.

Coraline, you find no traps on the door, and you do not detect any hidden sentries.

Red Feather and Sevegny can buff folks with their Invisibility if they want, and we can say they did that before the start of combat, but you'll need to tell me who is getting it.

Anyone who hasn't already done so, go ahead and roll Initiative.

Female Half Elf Cleric/6

I think Red Feather is using the Oathbow considering Sevegny said she was using a crossbow.

Initiative Roll 18+3=21.

Could I be a recipient of an invisibility ? This way I can enter the manor ? Also, I did not use the Oathbow because I thought others would want to use it but if everyone shy's away from it now I'll use it against the Half Catoblepas to put it out of its ugliness.

Re post from last page Initiative 9 + 6 + 1 (favored terrain applicable?) = 16 (or 15 I guess inside the manor which is no longer 'forrest').

Liberty's Edge

I'll cast invisibility on Coraline (6 rounds, starting ... now!) And I'll pass on the Oathbow.

Thanks Sevegny (six rounds, not minutes?), and with Expeditious Retreat I'm off ! If the hob drops to thier attack I enter through the manor door, where I am already, if not I can intercept the hob if need be, but I would rather save the 'invisibility' to get a drop on the party boys inside.

Liberty's Edge

Minutes, I mean. Boy, this invisibility keeps on getting shorter and shorter :)

Initiative

1d20+10=26

Arrow in surprise round on hobgoblin that is not engaged in a plummet.

1d20+13=33, 1d8+2=5, 3d6=12

Critical cofirmation and damage.

1d20+13=17, 2d8+4=16

Attack on initiative 26 on first round.

1d20+13=21, 1d8+2=8, 3d6=8

Sneak attack damage is included, on the assumption that I could get close enough to place shots. Here is my stealth check. I was operating on the assumption that Johnny was distracting one hobgoblin while I creep up and snipe the other. All hell broke loose somehow, and I have no idea what is going on anymore.

Stealth check to get within 30' of the hobgoblin sentry.

1d20+15=33

Female Half Elf Ranger 6

As I stated, if no one from inside comes through the manor door I go in ...

The Exchange

Okay, here is the order of events from the surprise round:

Tate successfully sneaks within 30' of the sentry, then deals 33 damage with a critical hit sneak attack. Taking their cue from Tate, Red Feather and Sevegny both fire on the wounded hob, but missing (Red Feather has not stated he was using the Oathbow, so I'm assuming it wasn't used), while Diego and Hans finish off the sentry with fire spells. Since the sentry dropped after the surprise round, we can just save those initiative rolls for later.

The entire affair made very little noise, and there is no increase in noise or activity from inside the manor to indicate that anyone heard anything.

In the meantime, Coraline sneaks into the Manor invisibly (I'll get up an interior map here in a bit).

Early. And it's going to be painful, because I won't get any sleep through the day before going to the Nightwish concert tonight!

Hope you roll a 20 for Endurance. Roc out with your vrock out !

Concert was great (as they always are)! Busy weekend, but I'll be back to the game this evening after work.

Since this is my only night off this week ... let's get this party sarted!

hello ??

Sorry it took so long, I was trying to figure out how to do interior maps on Campaign Cartographer 3, but never did figure it out because the tutorials they include with it are crap. So I finally switched to Dungeon Crafter III, which tends to crash my system if I put too much into it, as it uses up a ton of memory, but I managed to get the first floor pretty much done (there are a few wall tiles missing on the right, from when it crashed again, but that'll work anyway, because the house is crumbling.

First Floor

Just inside the front entryway, there is a long foyer, with two open archways to either side of the door, and double doors at the end. The left archway enters what was once a large sitting room, but what furniture was once there is now shattered and broken. There is also a staircase leading to the second floor. The archway to the right leads to a smaller cloakroom.

You see no hobgoblins in this first set of rooms, but the moment you step into the foyer, you feel an unnatural chill.

Female Half Elf Ranger 6

No problem, sorry you had to go through all that to post the map ! Post a little blurb on the ooc thread about the concert.

Nightwish wrote:

Coraline may have the stomach being the advance scout but after looking at the map and reading you’re the description I suddenly have the hibbie gibbies! Can I make any perception or knowledge rolls for the best way to continue ahead ?

Coraline steadies herself as the wave of unnatural cold temporarily halts her in her gusto to proceed. She throws a look behind her shoulder to confirm that Barley and the company are not too far back from her rapid advance.

She then looks and listens for any clues on how to continue further egress into the manor. Coraline mentally braces herself and with caution (and one last look over her shoulder) she proceeds in …

Perception 11 + 11 +2 (to Sight and Sound) = 24 (I’m guessing this is no longer favored terrain)

Liberty's Edge

Sevegny waits just outside the door, anxious for Claret's signal to come in.

Male Halfling Sorcerer (Fey) 1/Druid 5

Hans also waits...

Female Half Elf Ranger 6

Do you guys know something I don't ?

: P

I'm a few rounds ahead of the group, hopefully there will be enough left of me to bring back to life.

Female Half Elf Cleric/6

Amie moves as quickly as she can to the door after Hans and Sevegny. “Once inside leave us, Sevegny.” Amie whispers. “Make as quickly as you can to Yalla. If you encounter any one, play injured and point down a random hallway. I wish you luck and success. May the divine deities be with you.”

Where is our feline friend?

The Exchange

Me - male; my characters - usually female Depends which day it is 20th Level Metalhead

The cat bolted as soon as you guys started fighting outside. It may have been enchanted to talk temporarily, but it's still a cat and just as prone to be spooked but sudden violence. You can try to track it out in the trees, as it probably didn't go far.

I need to know who all is entering the house, and if you're entering any rooms besides the foyer. Aside from the unnatural chill, Claret doesn't notice anything right away in the immediate area, but she can hear gruff voices further back in the house, beyond the double doors at the end of the foyer.

Tate will sneak through the door, and listen. He will also look for irregularities, tripwires and anything else that can mess up our day.

1d20+8=28
Natural twenty on perception.

1d20+15=25

Bow ready but not drawn.

Again, this is why I didn't want to rush into battle.

Nightwish:

Spoiler:
Can I have made a Handle animal check or used my Hold Animal spell (domain power) to keep the cat from bolting? He was kinda really important and with out him there is no reason for Sevegny to be in disguise.

I'll hold off on deciding on an action until the cat matter is "back in the bag".

Are they goblinnoid?

After the sentries are dealt with and the fires put out, Diego does what he does best: boldly enters the manor and calls out loudly in common: "Good day, residents! My name is Diego and I have come to sell iron pots to put myself through Fighter COllege. Is the woman of the house available?"

Female Half Elf Ranger 6

I was under the impression that I had a few rounds to reconnoiter before Avon Draconic could peddle his wonderous cook ware?

Our company avoids stealth like the plauge but at least we do have panache and subtlety of a Benny Hill episode : )

Male Halfling Sorcerer (Fey) 1/Druid 5

If Diego bursts in, Hans is not far behind. But if Coraline does some scouting first, Hans will wait for a blood-curdling scream... :-)

The Exchange

Me - male; my characters - usually female Depends which day it is 20th Level Metalhead

Yes, Coraline does have at least a couple rounds on the others, since she was actually moving to enter the house as the others were moving to attack the sentry outdoors. And since Diego stated that he was putting out the flames first, that will take him an extra round. So, rounds 1 and 2, Coraline can explore. Round 3, Sevegny, Amie, Hans and Tate arrive, with Sevegny, Amie and Hans waiting at the door, and Tate stepping in. Round 4, Diego makes his stealth-banishing entry.

Amie, you can try handle animal or hold animal. Obviously, in the long run, the cat would respond better to the former than the latter (most creatures are not terribly appreciative of being forced against their will, whereas Handle Animal is more diplomatic than coercive).

Female Half Elf Ranger 6

Also since I had Expeditious Retreat on I hit the manor sooner. Let's do this !

Invisibility and Expeditious Retreat (being used to cover more ground) are active.

Coraline starts into the manor, wary of traps and alarms, and even while invisible, stays by the walls as she heads to the source of the sounds.

I have Invisibility on but if you need a stealth check later on 14 + 10 (skill + bonus) = 24. Are there any other doors that Coralline passes before reaching the one the voices are heard from ? And as I asked above are they goblinoid ? Also, do you need me to make any knowledge rolls regarding the surroundings.

Female Half Elf Cleric/6

Handle Animal Roll:17+5=22.

Hopefully that will do it. I will try to get the cat to follow me up to the door, I'll carry if need be.

Expeditious Retreat will get you into the Manor one round sooner. However, that spell is not on the Ranger spell list (it's only Bard 1, Sorceror/Wizard 1), so unless you have it in a magic item, or Diego or Hans cast it on you, you wouldn't have that spell.

There are two rooms besides the one behind the double doors, but neither of those rooms have doors, just archways. Through the archway to the left, you can see a staircase going up. The voices are speaking goblinoid, and with your skill in that language, it sounds like they are playing some kind of game of chance, or perhaps a card game.

Yeah, that's good enough. He didn't go far (if you've ever owned a cat, you know that when they're startled, they usually don't run far - they're too darned curious). It'll take you a couple rounds to do it (one to track him to where he hid, and one to actually perform the skill), though, so that'll put you one round behind Diego in arriving at the door.

Sorry to see you go. But that's the way of PbP games. That's part of why I allowed such a large group to start, because I knew that some players would inevitably drop out. If you decide you want to bring him back in at a later date, just let me know.

Here is the OOC thread, for anyone who lost track of it.

No point playing a rogue in a game where one of the players is wilfully stupid. If the player of Diego pulls another stunt like that, I will also withdraw from this game. Perhaps the fact that this is a hostage situation eluded him?

Dude, seriously? What part of GAME did you miss?

Male

Spoiler:
I miss the part of the game where people stay in character, avoid anachronisms, support the tactics of the group, and don't break the game for the hell of it.

I hereby resign this game. Thank you for the opportunity. I cite irreconcilable differences in play style.

Thank you to the rest of you for making this an enjoyable jaunt.

Thank you Nightwish for all your efforts, and for the verisimmilitude you kept in the game.

In Game:

Diego rescinds his last action. Instead he is struck by a sudden inspiration that he needs to blend art and fire in new and exciting ways. He dons a black beret, bids a fond adieu to the band and saunters off into the world to begin his career as an abstract arsonist.

In all honesty, I've got a cross country move coming up in the next month which will force me offline for long periods anyway, so it's probably a good idea to prune my PbPing down to a more manageable level anyway. I've enjoyed the game and hope that you all enjoy it as well. Thanks!
