Well, I'll have a number of people helping so I'll likley strain my brain before racking my back, but thanks for the sympathies. This will the culmination of several months of headaches, people-wise. I'll still have to deal with the aftermath; fix this/fix that and the cleanout of the old office. Ugh.

Taking a week and a half off in late month. Hitting Origins for 3 days, then chillin' for a week. Woo hoo!

Not really feeling the RP vibe right now, having several RL issues. I'll try to regroup as best I can tomorrow. Patrick

No worries, Patrick. I hope that you feel better tomorrow. Real life can be such a pain sometimes. :)

Wow, quiet weekend. Suppose it's for the best. I'll check the threads and see if I missed anything..

I've been examining the ins & outs of Innsmouth Horror, whilst occasionally contemplating Lucinda's next phase of limpet search; although her limpet search shouldn't hold up anyone else as far as I know. :D

Shadow Lodge

I thought of something awesome(IMO)! Okay, what if the last big battle of this version of our OTD RPG causes such massive amounts of death and destruction that the gods(LJ, SGH, etc) decide to not only seperate the races and place them in different 'planets'(the whole other dimensions/planes/whatever being like pages in a book theory) but to place a massive uber anti-magi field on the planets? What happens when, hundreds of thousands of years later, the 'planets' recombine and the races begin to encounter eachother once again(possible having thought the other races were only myths and legends) while the gods return and all supernatural powers return in full force? Imagine a little kid being bullied, flinging his hands up to protect himself, and unleashing a color spray on his attackers. Or a scholar who thinks the strange symbols he fills books with hold power, only to find out they do. Spells would fill the divine casters mind, druids(r lycanthropes) would freak out during their first shapechange, etc.

This of course means that nobody knows the full extent of their power or how to control it. They might release a truly masiive charge of power one day, only to sleep for a week and never be able to the exact same thing again. All this adds up to some really interesting role-play.

Shadow Lodge

And then there is all the racial tension that will spring from attacks on 'monsters'(yes every race falls under this category all far as the races are concerned). Think about it, a giant accidently steps on a dwarf, what do you think happens when other dwarfs find out? Or what happens humans begin to cut down a forest, which elves and all kinds of fey now inhabit?

Hmm. Maybe the gods don't do it all, but the Board splits by itself due to some super dangerous spell which kills the BBEG (in theory)but also causes a great gap. As it begins to widen, the gods see that there is only one way to fix it: Split the worlds completely, putting each race on a separate 'planet', and completely removing magic.

That could work too. Maybe the spell needed so much energy to work that it sucked up magic? If the Champions did it(as a last resort to stop the BBEG), that be a good way to lose their Champion status. And once magic starts to come back and the worlds recombine, well... didn't you say something about starting a over?

*BWAHAHA*

Ehem, excuse me. I do not mean to imply that the Champions would come back. We could even use our aliases again, even if this all does take place in the furture.
Yay for natural reincarnation! Think about it. You meet someone you don't remember seeing but feel like you now them? Or protect/love/hate as some cases may be.

Yeah, though for those who needed a way to weed out all their aliases they were tired of or that were wasting space, it would serve pretty well.

Apologies for not contributing sooner, but I am currently feeling very ill; I wouldn't be posting at all if this weren't bothering me to the point where it may be contributing to my current state of sleep-deprivation.

I am currently too tired to think of any more graceful way to say it than that this reminds me of Wizards of the Coast's/Hasbro's 4gotten Realms stunt - minus any issue that you might be planning it because of corporate greed.
Sorry about being so blunt and for not having any meaningful alternate lines to contribute, but I needed to get that off my chest.
Now if you'll excuse me, but I need to get back to bed and a box of tissues. :(

Shadow Lodge

Did not know they had done that. Still, I think it works. IMO anyway.

Apologies for my lack of posting. I have been busy with house chores, work chores and family time. Also, my frackin' mouse died this weekend AND I HATE TOUCHPADS WITH A COLD HELLISH FURY! ...ahem. I'll try to get caught up on what's going on.

Well, we're glad to have you back for whatever time you can spare. You've had a lot on your plate lately, so it's totally understandable.

And I do not understand this hatred of touchpads...:P

lynora wrote:

Touchpads are my personal version of 4E :P What I had works great, so why would I want to learn a whole new way of operating? Plus, I can't get done with my normal lightning-quick point and click and it frustrates me to no end ..

Okay, I guess I can understand that. I prefer touchpads, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that the only times I've used a mouse were on a shared computer and it was always much too big for my hand. I need one of this bitty ones cause I have little hands. [insert pointless riff on how hard it is to find gardening or winter gloves in ladies size small here] So for me I can get things done a lot faster with a touchpad.

And I have the opposite problem with large veiny ape hands all crusted with garden soil, which never seem to get the accursed touch where it is supposed to be. And scrolling! Heavens to Mergatroid the scrolling!

YEEEARGH!

4E hater. Don't get me wrong, I'm not what you'd call a fan and I'd only ever play a cleric or a warlock, but WoTC seriously messed up magic missile.

I don't hate 4E or touchpads (OK I hate touchpads a little..) I just am a grognard, and if it aint broke, don't fix it. I find the touchpad interface clunky and hard to wrangle, and I likes me wireless mouse, thankee sai ..

Aye, just that in itself is enough to cause annoyance.

Not sure I made as much sense as I would have liked in my previous sleep-deprived post. I was referring more to the 'we're bored; let's blow up the world and start over' vibe that I was getting from some posts rather than reincarnation specifically; although on the subject of reincarnation, I believe one of the Mummy films played around with reincarnation and occasional flashbacks most obviously to my mind at present.
Anyway, if I understand correctly that the plan is to blow everything up, I'll make sure I don't start any further storylines or do much more than occasionally pop by for a random Lucinda post.
Wishing you all well for the future.

Sheesh, I certainly didn't sign up for blowing up the world. I can barely deal with all the aliases I have now! :P

I'm not really keen on blowing up the world either. I can understand wanting to start over with less powerful characters. But that just seems extreme.

We can always just scale back the powers in the characters. Power creep is going to be an ongoing problem in this sort of free-form system, you just have to try and leash in the temptation to ratchet up the powers.

We have a few younger ones that are still learning their powers too. Like Keehaar, Arielle, Little Kiba, etc. Maybe letting the super-powerful step into the background while the others become more central to the plot would work just as well.

Yes, our first wave of organically-grown characters, LOL. Threadtrek, the Next Generation ....

...and on a field of blasted earth the battle between the Warforged of the Wizard Televal and the brass golems of the Earth Mage takes a unexpected turn. Seeing his creations losing ground the Mage summons spirits from beneath the ancient battlefield and creates a merging between spirits and metal. The act saved the day for the Mage, but the merging could not be undone...and it spread to the Warforged of his enemy. With their newfound sentience, both Warforged and Golem soon left their creators in search of the lives they had lost so many years ago.

Many of the Golems were members of the Ch'ack Clan, well known for their thirst for battle and for liquor. Over the decades that followed the Ch'acks forgot their previous lives, their transformations, and the clan name. They simply became Jacks.

This sounds interesting.

Yay, a background!

Hi folks, trying to keep up, RL still battering at me. It's supposed to rain all day today, so I will be excused from my continual round of grass mowing/ weed pulling/ plant planting I think so I will update more tonight after work..

BTW, I have my regular game tonite and I'm heading to Origins tomorrow am. So even less posting for me for a while.

LJ can have Arielle beat me up with weapon training if she wishes to get her active again.

Have fun!

Everyone who hasn't, and those who did a month ago, please post your desire to have a separate forum for our free-form RPG HERE.

The CharOp folks are agitating for one, now's a good time to bring this back up to the Postmonster's attention....

Sorry I haven't been on as much the last couple of days. The b-day party is past, and other than some further birthday festivities on Wednesday (the kidlet's actual b-day) that's finally all done. As is the friend drama. End consensus, my friends are flakes. Is it really that hard to return phone calls and emails? Really?
Anyhoo, I should be online tonight, and back to my regular posting schedule tomorrow.

Well, hopefully the worst of the intrigue is behind you now ;)

As crazy as things have been for me at work the last month, I'm starting to worry about being able to post much for a while myself, to be honest...

Nope. Well I think it's a relief to know that I'm not a flake. :-k

Well, this season is the nadir of posting for me, sorry folks. With work, a massive garden, kid issues and the usual dishes/laundry/amateur carpentry I am having trouble finding time to post. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll try and keep up, but the posting will be a bit sparse.

LOL. No, you're not a flake. I should have specified that it was my friends that I know from other means than the computer that are flakes. :)

*** We interrupt this adventure to bring you a not-so big d**n announcement from Your Friendly Neighborhood Dalesman ;P ***

Glad Tidings to One and All,

My company is going live with both a new commercial website and a new internal inventory/sales management application today, and everything is working as you would expect - which means not at all as planned ;P

I have a feeling I will be out of the loop for the rest of the week as a result, so I apologize in advance if I don't post/respond in a timely manner until Monday (as I'm also heading off for an extended weekend starting on Thursday.)

If I can't pop in later, I hope everyone stateside has a safe and happy 4th of July holiday!

It seems like all of us are pretty busy right now. So posting is probably going to be pretty slow for the next little while. Which is okay. I'm pretty swamped lately myself. Things may speed up again as we all get a little more time. But in the meantime, it's not like we're on a schedule or anything. :)

LOL, Anyone notice our game got moved to the PbP threads? Not quite what I had in mind, but what can yeh do?

Patrick Curtin wrote:

They forgot one. The House at the Edge of Eternity.

Hmm. This is kinda annoying. There's a difference between Free-Form Roleplaying and D&D playing, in my opinion. |:(

It's going to be really hard to keep our threads from falling into the archives. Which is pretty darn annoying. I can deal with it outside of that.

lynora wrote:

The thing that gets me is that a ton of forums (Giant ItP, Dragcave, and many others)have separate subforums for FFRPing, but we get lumped in with PbPs.

However, you have a much better point. We have a lot of threads to look after, it'll be hard to keep them in the PbP page. All Teter's really done is transfer the problem to a much faster-moving forum.

Well, I posted my dissatisfaction in the original Website Feedback forum, I suggest you all do likewise...
